Sir Thomas Ingliby (c. 1290–1352) married the heiress, Edeline Thwenge in 1308/9 and acquired the Ripley Castle estate with its medieval manor house as her dowry. While hunting, their eldest son, Thomas (1310–1369), saved Edward III from being attacked by a wild boar and was duly knighted with the boar's head incorporated into the Ingilby family crest (see lots 209 and 213). Subsequent generations of the Ingilby family have survived periods of political and religious turmoil and witnessed great societal change. Today, the Ingilby family still live at Ripley Castle and have been opening it to the public since 1954.Accompanied by a report from The Gem & Pearl Laboratory stating that the sapphire is of Sri Lankin origin, with no indications of heat treatment. An early 20th century platinum 1.10ct (approximately) Old European cut diamond solitaire ring. The stone of slightly oval shape and of good clarity and white colour, the shoulders set eight tiny diamonds, stamped PLATINUM, size M, 3.1g.The dimensions of the diamond are 6.8mm x 7mm x 4.4mm depth. We would give an approximate clarity of SI.
An attractive early 20th century platinum square cut 1.50ct (approximately) diamond solitaire ring. The principle stone measuring 6.65 x 5.8 x 4.4mm, the principle stone of very good clarity and near colourless, the shoulders with two baguette cut diamonds each measuring 3.5 x 2mm, shank tests as platinum, size J 1/2, 2.63g.The principal stone is in good condition. There are no noticeable inclusions in a 10x lens. The baguettes are also good.
