Jacob JORDAENS (1593-1678), Werkstatt oder Umkreis, Hl. Hieronymus in Gedanken, Öl/Holz, parkettiert, 58 x 44,2 cm. Das Jordaens Panel Project (http://jordaensvandyck.org/panel/saint-peter-repentant/) führt dieses Gemälde als eines der bereits untersuchten Gemälde auf. Diese können von Jacob Jordaens stammen oder mit ihm in Verbindung stehen (related to Jordaens). Die dendrochronologische Untersuchung datiert das Gemälde - eingedenk von mindestens zwei Jahren für Lagerung und Transport - in den Zeitraum von 1628 bis 1649, also zu Lebzeiten des Künstlers. Das Gemälde besteht aus zwei Eichenbrettern. Für das eine Brett gibt die Kernholzdatierung das frühestmögliche Fälldatum mit "nach 1623" an. Herkunftsgebiet ist wahrscheinlich das süd-östliche Belgien (Wallonien). Das andere Brett ergibt anhand einer Splintholzdatierung einen Zeitraum für die Baumfällung von 1626 bis 1647. Herkunftsgebiet ist wahrscheinlich die Region Ardennen in Frankreich.Zum vorliegenden Gemälde schrieb Ludwig Burchard am 10. August 1933 ein Gutachten, in dem er das Bild "eines Apostels in rotem Mantel" als eine "eigenhändige, vortrefflich erhaltene Arbeit von Jacob Jordaens aus der Zeit um 1620" bezeichnet. Experten vermuten allerdings, dass er das Bild im Ponce Museum in Puerto Rico (als "St. Peter repentant"), das in seiner Ausführung schwungvoller ist, nicht kannte. Albrecht Neuhaus hielt das Gemälde ebenfalls für eine eigenhändige Arbeit, "wohl als Studie für ein Gemälde der Werkstatt gedacht". Auch andere Stimmen sehen eine Verbindung zu dem Kopf des Joseph von Arimatheia in der Beweinung in der Kunsthalle Hamburg, die auf ca. 1650 datiert wird. Die Argumente sowie die Datierung des Holzes machen eine Entstehung im Umfeld des Künstlers wahrscheinlich, so dass "Werkstatt oder Umkreis" in diesem Fall naheliegt.Provenienz: Dr. F. Spry opened her first shop 'Flower Decoration' in 1929 and Fulham Pottery subsequently began manufacturing bespoke vases to her designs in the mid 1930s. She went on to found a school at Winkfield Place where the flowers for HM Queen Elizabeth II's wedding were arranged.
