A rare early 19th Century French gilt and patinated bronze mantel clock depicting 'The Oath of the Horatii', the fine bronze figural surmount depicting the three Horatii brothers (symbols of ancient Roman valour), armour adorned, each with an arm outstretched over the altarpiece facing their father, set on rectangular plinth base and cast with a gilt bas-relief of the brothers fighting the Curiatti. The 4 inch gilded dial with Roman numerals and signed Grellier a St Pre Martinique, the engine turned centre twin train drum movement with silk suspension and outside count wheel strike on a bell, signed 'Cleret', 61cm.
