DAVID HOCKNEY (BRITISH, B. 1937) MYSELF & MY HEROES Etching and aquatint, signed, dated 1961, edition of 50 29.5cm x 49.5cm (10.2in x 19.5in) Notes: 'Myself and My Heroes' was David Hockney's first print which he made on arriving at the Royal College of Art, London. The work shows the artist beside a haloed Mahatma Gandhi and Walt Whitman.
Jack Hellewell (British, 20th Century) Abstract signed lower left 'Jack Hellewell' gouache on paper 39 x 53 cm Provenance: Broughton House Gallery, Cambridge (label verso) Jack Hellewell was born in Yorkshire and studied at Bradford College of Art where he was a contemporary of David Hockney. His influences are from his native country of Yorkshire as well as his travels in Australia, Italy, North Africa, Russia and Scotland. Hellewell experiments with different styles and techniques. He is known for his bold and unusual landscapes and occasionally still lifes or flowers.
david George Fawcett A.T.D., F.R.S.A. (1935-1973) Bradford Street Scene in Winter, with a figure under the arch of a bridge, buildings nearby signed verso, oil on hardboard, 51cm by 84.5cm, unframed david George Fawcett was born in Bradford and met David Hockney at school there. Along with David Oxtoby they attended art school together in Bradford and subsequently in London at the Royal College of Art. After college they remained very good friends with David Hockney staying with the artist at various times, sharing an art studio in Kent. He also exhibited at the Royal Academy. Hockney was best man at his wedding in 1958. He was killed in a plane crash in March 1973. See illustration
Various artists GRAPHIC ART POSTERS FOR THE 1972 OLYMPIC GAMES, MUNICH artists including Hockney, Vasarely, Hundertwasser etc., Series 2, 3, 4 & 5 each being a set of seven, 28 posters in total 100 by 64cm., 39 1/2 by 25 1/4in. These posters are documented on p.296 of the Olympic Games official report. However, the seven posters in Series 5 were omitted for reason not apparent.
