GWEN HARDIE, BODY 07.02.14 oil on canvas, signed and titled verso 51cm x 41cm (oval) Unframed, as intended Note: Hardie is the youngest artist ever to be awarded a solo show at The Scottish National Gallery of Modern Art in Edinburgh, Scotland (1990).Gwen Hardie is represented in many private and public art collections in Britain, Europe and America including two major works in The Scottish National Gallery Of Modern Art. Since moving to New York in 2000, she has shown with The Lennon Weinberg Gallery, Dinter Fine Art and has been awarded Residencies at Yaddo in 2004, 2005 and 2006 in a Bogliasco Fellowship at The Liguria Study Center in Italy. She lived in London between 1990 and 2000 and had 6 solo shows with galleries such as Annely Juda Fine Art, Beaux Arts and Fischer fine Art. In 1997 her painting was awarded a prize at the John Moores biennial, Liverpool and was included in the New British Painting" which toured America in 1986. Hardie left her native Scotland in 1984 when she was awarded a DAAD Scholarship to study with Georg Baselitz in Berlin. A documentary was broadcast on Scottish Television about her in Berlin in 1987. At Edinburgh College of art she was awarded the Richard Ford Award to study the paintings of Velasquez at the Prado Museum and received a first class honours degree in 1983. " Three of Gwen Hardie's paintings are currently included in "REALITY; Modern and Contemporary British Painting" at The Walker Art Gallery (until 29th November 2015) alongside the work of Walter Sickert, Lucien Freud, Francis Bacon, L S Lowry, Jenny Saville, Ken Currie, George Shaw, David Hockney, Alison Watt, Paula Rego and other important 20th century and contemporary artists.

With some tiny sized sporadic foxing spots throughout. The print has been glued at the edges and there are discoloured finger prints which may well be the transference of the glue from the securing process. Cockelling around the centre. Small number of thunderflies trapped under the glass. Scuffs and scratches to the glass. Thin aluminium frame. Not examined out of the frame.

CONDITION REPORT: This is original. Creased and dirt to reverse but generally good condition. Telephone bidding is available for this lot.
A David Hockney signed postcard, David Oxtoby signed image of Elvis, Roger De Grey signed postcard, Maggi Hambling signed postcard CONDITION REPORTS All with some wear and dirt, some smudges. Image of Elvis is signed in pencil by David Oxtoby and dated 1990, has crease/fold to one corner, and is inscribed in pencil verso, possibly in another hand, "Postcard size, Elvis Aron Presley 2 or 3 David Jowett Greaves Oxtoby 1990 (Just over 2 or 3)" (sic) - probably referring to Elvis aged 2 or 3. David Hockney postcard has gold-colour pen and black pen lines to either side of printed image, postcard has some creasing, and some dots of ink verso, and the postcard is signed in pen. Roger de Grey postcard has some smudges to name and some ink smudges verso. It is believed that the vendor collected the signatures, however, there is no written provenance.
