Monroe standing left, head turned back, holding down her ‘Flying Skirt’, for ever, and ever, ah men in field to left, rev. edge engraved d.c.t. 2000 1, 120mm, 1,969.22g. Extremely fine, a very substantial work, the first of only two castings made and undoubtedly the rarest Marilyn Monroe medal £200-£400 --- Provenance: bt Simmons, 2000 Edition of 2. Marilyn Monroe (1926-62) was a Hollywood actress, model and singer, one of the most popular sex symbols of the 1950s and early 1960s, as well as an emblem of the era's sexual revolution. The reverse image is taken from the famous photograph of Monroe stood on a subway grate at the junction of 52nd Street and Lexington avenue, New York, taken by Sam Shaw on 15 September 1954 in preparation for the 1955 film The Seven Year Itch, directed by Billy Wilder.

A well engineered 2.5 inch LBSC design coal fired live steam 4-6-0 locomotive and tender 'Olympiade' 5744 in non prototypical lined maroon LMS livery. Appears to have never been steamed. Total length of locomotive and tender 90cm approx. No fire grate or ash pan. Boiler history disclaimer:- no warranty or guarantee is given as to the safety of the boiler in it's present condition.

Note: The present print satirises King George III's (1738-1820) supposed frugality, with the British Museum note describing how '[e]verything in the room denotes miserliness: the King has tucked the end of the table-cloth into his collar to protect his dress; his breeches are patched; his chair is swathed in protective coverings, his feet rest on a mat which protects the carpet... Behind the King's back, and on the extreme right, is a fire-place; in the grate is a vase containing snowdrops, holly, and mistletoe, to show that although it is winter there is no fire'.

Ca. 1st–2nd Century AD.A marble panel featuring a relief scene of a male figure leading a subdued lion. The man is barefoot and nude from the waist up and turned 3/4 to the viewer, displaying a muscular physique. He rests his left hand on a majestic lion with a lowered tail and a gently raised head. Background elements include a semi-circular metal grate attached to a stone-brick wall, perhaps the cage for the lion which would suggest the frieze depicts the machinations of the Roman arena. The reverse side is flat an unworked, suggesting that this piece sat on a wall. Item comes with a professional historical report from Ancient Report Specialists. Size: 360mm x 300mm; Weight: 17.38kg Provenance: Property of a London gentleman; Ex. French collection, Paris, Parisian Gallery, 1970-90.
