NOTE-The walnut fire surround was probably manufactured by Gillows of Lancaster as they manufactured the original furnishings for the property in Windermere from which this was removed. The Syd Lord Collection of Scratch Built Models, 1936 - 1997 A 1/120 scale 1/10" to 1ft working scratch built model of the "London Craftsman" dry cargo ship. A well-detailed model with engine room and model diesel engine, geared electric drive motor with stop, start, forward, reverse and speed control; multi diesel sound generator, water cooling pump, working windlass and anchors. The model is fitted with a grate, flue and draught box which is double cased for burning oily rags or cotton for real smoke effect, the derricks can be raised manually. The model operates by a six-channel radio control obtaining eight functions by use of micro switches, po-po switches from servos. The model comes with literature sheets, presentation awards/trophies and an album of photographs that were taken by Mr P.A. Crowson of Macclesfield and presented to Mr Syd Lord. 140cm long, presented on a wooden stand. Provenance - built by Mr Syd Lord between 1986 and 1989 using mostly scrap wood, metal and various other materials. The model featured in the "Marine Modelling" magazine in September 1989, see p.53
