The last-of-the-line Diablos, a rare factory Special Edition benefiting from all the upgrades, a 205mph capability and all the theatre you’d want from Sant'Agata’s finest. After 17 years in production, Lamborghini’s much revered Countach was superseded by the Diablo which, on its arrival, was the fastest, most advanced and most expensive Lamborghini ever built. First presented publicly at Monaco in January 1990, the Diablo improved on its predecessor in every way, setting a new standard in ‘supercar’ design. It was styled by the late Marcello Gandini, the man responsible for Lamborghini’s Miura, Countach, Uracco, Khamsin and Jarama, Alfa’s Montreal, the Lancia Stratos and many more stunning designs over four decades. The use of carbon fibre composite panels, first seen in the Countach Evoluzione model, was extended in the Diablo, which also featured revised suspension capable of accommodating the anticipated future developments of four-wheel drive and active suspension. Stretched to 5.7-litres for the Diablo, Lamborghini's 48-valve V12 boasted fuel-injection for the first time. With more power and a lower drag coefficient than the Countach, the Diablo easily eclipsed its forebearer, exceeding 200mph on test. More importantly however, its acceleration and top-speed figures were marginally better than those of its main rival, the Ferrari F40. The Diablo though, was not a limited-edition model like the latter but a series-production car with a luxuriously appointed interior reflecting its designers' intention to produce a civilised Gran Turismo as suited to city streets as motorways and fast A-roads. Four-wheel drive Diablo VT and Targa-style open roadster versions soon followed. When Automobili Lamborghini was purchased in 1998 by the VW Group subsidiary, Audi AG, Lamborghini’s famous 60° V12 engine – utilised for almost 50 years - continued undergoing constant upgrades, growing from 5.7-litres to the final displacement of 6.5-litres found in the Murciélago LP670-4 Superveloce. Audi extensively reworked the Diablo, with fixed headlamps plus an increase in engine size to 6-litres with numerous changes under the skin.In 2001, at the Geneva Motor Show, Lamborghini announced the production of a final run of 42 cars (with car #42 now in the Lamborghini Museum). These SE (Special Edition) versions of the already massively upgraded VT 6.0 were available finished in Oro Elios or Marrone Eklipsis to represent sunrise and sunset, and featured many mechanical upgrades. Other changes included a new magnesium intake manifold, short-ratio transmission, special upholstery treatment, Lamborghini-badged brake calipers, comprehensive road map software in the navigation system, and enhanced carbon fibre interior trim. The resultant Diablo VT 6.0 SE Coupé four-wheel drive supercar is powered by the 6-litre V12 and features an aluminium-alloy block, aluminium alloy/magnesium heads, chain driven DOHC per bank, intake variable valve timing and a magnesium intake manifold resulting in 550bhp @ 7,100rpm and 422ft/lb @ 5,500rpm. This fabulous power unit sits in a high-strength, tubular spaceframe with carbon fibre components, clothed in aluminium alloy, carbon fibre and fibreglass-reinforced bodywork and sits on lightweight magnesium alloy wheels. Comparitively light at 1,675kg (not much more than the svelte Gallardo coupé), the SE offered 0-62mph in 3.95 seconds on its way to 205mph.The right-hand drive SE presented here is #9 of the 42 produced, dates from 2001 and is finished in 'Oro Elios' or Gold Helios (Helios was one of the Titans, son of Hyperion and Theia and was the personification of the Sun). It was delivered new to Hong Kong, where it formed part of a significant Collection and was stored and maintained to the highest standards prior to being imported into the UK (with all taxes paid) and registered Y453 FBA. Benefiting from a thorough inspection/service at Lamborghini Tunbridge Wells (27th December 2023), this immaculate modern-classic supercar has covered an almost-inconceivably low 564 miles from new. It is as special as you would wish it to be, in superbly unused and beautifully preserved condition, the epitome of ‘collector-quality’.Striking in its design, specification and colour combination, this Diablo VT 6.0 SE Coupé is absolutely what a supercar should be and represents a unique position in the Lamborghini timeline. Retaining some of the dramatic design language that harked back to the Countach, whilst utilising the glorious old-guard V12 (albeit evolved/updated), but with the subtle reassurance of Audi’s yet-to-be dominant influence on improving reliability, electronics and usability and before there was a fundamental (but maybe not better) change in the model’s aesthetics. The last of the line, run-out model of any significant car is desirable, but when it’s one of only 42 examples produced worldwide, features a legendary 550bhp normally-aspirated V12 and has covered just over 500 miles from new, it takes ‘desirable’ to the next level. An opportunity like this is incredibly rare and Iconic Auctioneers are extremely proud to offer this car to market. Don’t miss it, this is an important motor car and worthy of any significant Collection.Interesting extra reading to be found here: Lamborghini Diablo 6.0 VT | PH Heroes - PistonHeads UKSpecification Make: LAMBORGHINI Model: DIABLO VT 6.0 SE COUPÉ Year: 2001 Chassis Number: ZA9DE01A01LA12818 Registration Number: Y453 FBA Transmission: Manual Drive Side: Right-hand Drive Odometer Reading: 564 Miles Make: RHDClick here for more details and images

Looking fabulous in Cosmos Blue, this one owner from new Griffith has covered just over 10,000 miles. With the introduction of the Griffith in 1991, Blackpool-based sports car manufacturer, TVR, resurrected one of their great model names from its past. The first Griffith of the 1960s had been a lightweight and compact coupé powered by a 4.7-litre Ford V8 engine, a combination that made for seriously exciting motoring. Considerably more refined than its predecessor yet even faster, the new Griffith was a sleek open roadster powered by the Rover V8 engine in various capacities. The multi-tubular backbone chassis was a short-wheelbase development of the Tuscan race-car's and thus the Griffith came with wide-base, unequal-length wishbone suspension all round. The top speed of the popular 4.3-litre version was around 160mph and it was relatively affordable, so it was hardly surprising that TVR was swamped by orders when the production car debuted at London's Motorfair in October 1991. The fact that it accelerated faster than a Ferrari Testarossa or Porsche 911 Turbo, models costing many times as much, did nothing to hinder sales, which were further boosted by the build quality: the Griffith was easily the best-built car TVR had ever produced. The model's final flourish was the even faster Griffith 500, introduced in August 1993, which was powered by a 5-litre version of the Rover V8 producing 325bhp.Finished in Cosmos Blue metallic with a Grey half-hide interior, this superb Griffith 500 was purchased new on 1st June 1996 by our vendor from the TVR Centre in Barnet and has remained in single ownership ever since covering an incredible 10,120 miles in that time. The car remains in simply delightful condition having been cosseted by our vendor from Day one. We quote from his notes to us;'This car has been kept in an air-conditioned garage for all its life and has only left there whilst being driven. It has seen rain just twice in its life! It has been stored in there and been on SORN for the last seven years and has only recently come out of hibernation to have a 6,000 mile service and MOT with a TVR specialist that has looked after this car for many years. The car has had very few problems in its life and those that it has have been very minor. It has completed just under 10,120 miles and has covered just under 800 miles in the last 11 years. It is virtually 100% original and even has the same tyres on as the day it came out of the Blackpool factory. It comes also with the original two TVR key sets, the original owners hand book and much paperwork that includes a faxed copy of the original invoice, 20 tax discs going back to 1997, MOT Certificates (going back to the very first), original TVR Griffith Brochures, service history and much more combined within a large A4 folder'It will come to sale with a fresh MOT until July 2025 issued with 'No Advisories’ and recent service.A mid-1990s Griffith 500 in this condition with this mileage and one owner from new is a rare find, the ‘Holy Grail’ perhaps, and we encourage your inspection at our Silverstone Festival Sale. **Saleroom Notice - Please note the correct estimate is £80,000 – £100,000, not £60,000 - £80,000 as incorrectly catalogued.** The JDM dream, presenting USA import eligible Sonic Silver Series I, with incredibly rare JDM parts fitted, in mainly standard guise. Rightfully lauded as the 'Holy Grail' of the JDM world, the R34 GT-R is a car which goes against the age old saying of 'never meet your heroes' as it is everything one would hope it to be. Phenomenally advanced for its time, it's easy to forget that this car was launched in 1999 with a smörgåsbord of hugely advanced technology such as the electronically-controlled Super HICAS 4-wheel steering, 5.8" LCD multifunction display in the dashboard, showing seven different live readings of engine and vehicle statistics, aggressive new styling, a stiffer bodyshell and a reworked version of the bulletproof and highly modifiable RB26DETT twin-turbo inline-six under the bonnet. The engine was mated to an all-new Getrag six-speed gearbox and transfer case. Unlike some other performance cars of the 1990s, Nissan did not neglect the braking system and fitted Brembo brakes with 300mm vented discs.Described by Evo magazine as 'A warrior-class performer' in its 2007 road test, where a standard R34 GT-R was pitted against the likes of a McLaren F1, Pagani Zonda, Ferrari F40 and Bugatti Veyron, the GT-R's reputation as a 'class act' remained intact. The V-Spec was introduced in October 1999, just nine months after the launch of the R34 Series I, making it an almost immediate upgrade over the standard car. While the Series I was a fantastic car, the improvements were thorough and ensured the V-Spec and V-Spec II cars are even more desirable. Changes for the V-Spec included an improved suspension system featuring stiffer springs and dampers, Brembo brakes as standard, lighter forged-aluminium wheels allowing wider tires, an active limited-slip differential, and an improved aero package with a front-lip spoiler and carbon fibre rear wing.As a V-Spec I, JDM-delivered, right-hand drive example, this is one of 514 Sonic Silver (KV4) V-Spec I cars out of a total production run of 11,578. It presents in excellent condition having been maintained religiously before and after its import in 2020, covering just 1,000km since landing on UK shores, and now displaying 137,000km. The car has been serviced by a marque specialist since being in the UK and comes to market benefitting from a service, detail and MOT.A keen eye will spot this isn’t a totally standard R34 GT-R having been enhanced with expensive, and somewhat 'unobtanium' parts such as the Nismo S-Tune front bumper, NISMO NE-1 stainless steel exhaust (costing £3,255 before shipping and taxes), NISMO gauge cluster, a front-mounted intercooler as well as Japan Racing wheels and what appear to be HSD coil-over suspension. It may not be able to claim the original 'Godzilla' title, as that remains with the R32 GT-R, but the newcomer definitely carried the torch, and arguably the R34 GT-R has become the most iconic and most recognised car ever to emerge from Japan in their late-90s 'golden era'.With the way R34 GT-R prices have skyrocketed so comfortably into the six-figure sums in recent years, this cherished, two UK-owner example is surely one of the final chances to acquire such a desirable car for such reasonable money, especially considering the 25-year import rule has now legalised this car for the US-market meaning prices are only going to go one way.SpecificationMake: NISSANModel: SKYLINEYear: 1999Chassis Number: BNR34001066Registration Number: S422 LEPTransmission: ManualEngine Number: RB26Drive Side: Right-hand DriveOdometer Reading: 139000 MilesMake: RHDInterior Colour: Black ClothClick here for more details and images
Long believed to have disappeared, Henry Ford II's own Ford Escort RS2000, unique in Roman Bronze Metallic, with a cream leather interior and automatic transmission. Henry Ford II, sometimes known as Hank the Deuce, was the eldest son of Edsel Ford I and the eldest grandson of Henry Ford. Head of Ford Motor Company for 34 years (1945-79), he is generally credited with reviving the firm’s fortunes.Following the unexpected death of his father, he was released from Naval duty, immediately becoming a Ford Vice President and after what amounted to a crash course in industrial management, he succeeded to the Presidency of the ailing company in 1945. He promptly set about modernising the company, introducing many successful models, including the Mustang and the Thunderbird, and by the mid-1950s Henry II had restored FoMoCo to rude financial health, becoming part of the bedrock of the modern auto‐industrial age.Harrow-born Walter Hayes enjoyed a successful career in journalism, however, with a young family to look after he was seeking a more stable career. Fortuitously the position of Head of Ford UK’s Publicity Department became available and in January 1962, he joined Ford UK at the start of a stellar career that would have an influence in every corner of British Motorsport for decades to come. His inclusion in this story relates to his early acquaintance and subsequent life-long friendship with HFII.During the early 1960s, HFII engaged in lengthy negotiations with Enzo Ferrari in an attempt to buy Ferrari, with a view to expanding Ford's presence in motorsport in general and at the Le Mans 24 Hours in particular, however, negotiations collapsed due to disputes over control of Ferrari's Scuderia racing division. As is well known, the collapse of the deal and his subsequent annoyance, led Ford to launch the Ford GT40 with much documented success, the story of which is well told in the 2019 film Ford v Ferrari in which Henry Ford II is portrayed by Tracy Letts.During the crisis of the Ferrari purchase/development of the GT40, and latterly the development of the Ford Cosworth DFV, Hayes would often meet with Henry Ford II. The pair got on well, and thanks to the success of the DFV, Henry appointed Hayes to the board of one of his major projects, the establishment of Ford of Europe at its founding in 1967.With his own involvement with Ford of Europe, HFII found himself spending increasing amounts of time in the UK and, in 1974, decided to buy a property over here. Married to his second wife, Maria Cristina Vettore, they fell in love with and bought Turville Grange, a stunning Grade II listed property in Buckinghamshire. The estate was the former home of the younger sister of Jackie Kennedy, Lee Radziwill, who lived at the property with her European husband, HSH Prince Stanislas Radziwill in the 1960s. Whilst living at Turville, if HF II had to make longer trips, he would borrow something from the local Ford dealer or would be collected by a chauffeur, however, he liked to be independent and to be able to pop into the village occasionally on his own, so contacted his good friend, Walter Hayes (at this point Vice President, Ford of Europe) and asked him to find him “something special, a bit unusual.”Although, Henry was able to handle a ‘stick-shift’, he preferred an automatic gearbox and whilst Ford’s new RS2000 powered by the 2-litre, SOHC, four-cylinder Pinto engine was powerful, and its looks distinctive with a 'droop snoot' polyurethane nose and RS badge, it wasn’t available with an automatic gearbox. After some thought, Walter decided to create a bespoke, one-off RS2000 for HFII who, after all, was one of the most influential people in the history of Ford. The car was duly built with an automatic box, a really special interior luxuriously trimmed in cream leather with deep carpets, de-badged, meticulously finished in Roman Bronze Metallic with individual stripes and fitted with a set of bespoke wheels, prior to being registered to Henry Ford for his sole use on 8th June 1976 as NUF 617P.This unique RS commenced the next chapter of its life when it was purchased from Ford by John Redding on behalf of Melvyn Butcher who registered it in his name on 27th May 1978. Naturally, Melvyn was aware of the car's provenance but used it as his family car for nearly ten years, covering around 40,000 miles, before selling it to John and Scott Redding who registered it in their company name, Webster and Lancaster Ltd on 13th March 1988. Established in 1960, Webster and Lancaster are very well respected motor vehicle engineers and restorers and knowing the cars history, planned to recommission it and offer it for sale. With dozens of projects on the go, they never got around to it and were persuaded to sell it by our late vendor.Externally, it had become a little tired so, in 2002, our vendor tasked Roger Taylor at Classic Cars of Bournemouth with a full external restoration of the RS to a 'show standard'. There is an invoice within the file totalling £6,632.88 which details the repair of metalwork, preparing, priming and painting the car in its unique Roman Bronze. In the interests of originality and considering the car's fascinating history, the interior wasn't touched apart from a good clean. It was added to his Collection and we understand, made occasional appearances at shows and events, where it attracted much interest before, to all intents and purposes, disappearing for the last ten years.Henry Ford II was an ebullient, larger than life, character who was CEO of the Ford Motor Company from 1945 to 1979. Often regarded as a 'tycoon' in the mould of Rockefeller and Howard Hughes, he fitted well into British Society with his beautiful wives, country estate and noted generosity yet, when whizzing down to Turville Heath in NUF 617P to pick up the newspapers or have a pint at the Bull and Butcher, he was frequently described as modest, polite and kind.Prior to the sale the car has been recommissioned along with the other cars in the Focus on Ford Collection by Tremona Garage of Southampton. This work included an oil and filter service, new spark plugs and air filter, gearbox oil and filter changed, differential oil change, points and condenser changed, tappets adjusted with new rocker cover gasket, new rear brake hose, new front callipers, brake fluid changed, cambelt and tensioner changed, alternator belt and antifreeze changed, all using genuine Ford parts. We are delighted to be able to offer this unique RS2000 that was once enjoyed by one of the most influential figures in the history of the automotive industry and invite and encourage your viewing at Silverstone prior to our sale.Specification Make: FORD Model: ESCORT RS2000 Year: 1976 Chassis Number: GCATSC18015 Registration Number: NUF 617P Transmission: Automatic Engine Number: SC18015 Drive Side: Right-hand Drive Odometer Reading: 44495 Miles Make: RHD Interior Colour: Cream LeatherClick here for more details and images
A very smart example of the facelifted SL63 AMG in a special order colour with a superb service history file. The R230-generation SL was an instant hit following its public debut at the 2001 Frankfurt Auto Show and subsequent crowd-pleasing performance as the F1 Safety Car at the German Grand Prix at Hockenheim of the same year. The flagship models of the range were the mighty AMG models from the wizards at Affalterbach in the form of the V8-powered SL55 AMG and V12 Bi-Turbo SL65 AMG. Both models offered tremendous performance and equally exceptional road holding and ride quality thanks to their advanced 'ABC' suspension system. The facelifted SL63 was launched in 2009 and replaced the previous SL55 model, the supercharged 5.5-litre V8 of the former model making way for the M156 normally aspirated 6.2-litre V8 as seen in the S63 model. As to be expected with any new AMG SL, the SL63 offered exceptional performance from its 518bhp V8 with 465 lb/ft torque mated to an all-new MCT 7-speed automatic transmission with steering wheel-mounted paddle shift. This striking SL63 AMG was ordered new from Mercedes-Benz of Cheltenham in special-order Topaz Blue Metallic with 'exclusive' Nappa leather in Sand, comfort ventilated seats, AMG floor mats and Burr Walnut trim, costing a grand total of £105,615.42. First registered on 6th June 2010, the SL63 has been cherished in the hands of just four owners over the past 14 years and has clearly been lovingly maintained and garaged as the car presents in superb overall condition, both inside and out. It's supplied with a well documented service history file that shows the car has been regularly serviced despite its relatively low mileage in any given year. In addition to the rare and desirable original specification, the SL sits on a set of SL65 AMG split-rim wheels which are also in excellent condition. This SL represents an opportunity to acquire one of the last 'big block' AMG SL muscle cars in a rarely seen and very tasteful original specification. The car drives and performs exactly as it should with an addictive and menacing soundtrack, bags of character and superb performance with surprising practicality thanks to its folding metal roof and generous boot space.Having grown up with a Ferrari Daytona, our enthusiast vendor has always loved a V12, yet his Aston Martin V8 Volante has taken precedence on recent sunny days and with a Rapide as a daily driver, this car vies for attention. Presented to auction with an odometer reading of some 49,000 miles, the history file includes the V5C, a current MOT Certificate valid until November 2025, both keys and a comprehensive service record. The SL has just received a 'B' service in July, new pulsation damper and ABC flush (Rodeo) and is ready for immediate enjoyment by its new lucky new custodian.Specification Make: MERCEDES Model: SL-CLASS Year: 2010 Chassis Number: WDB2304702F163448 Registration Number: VN10 EZE Transmission: Automatic Engine Number: 15698160057082 Drive Side: Right-hand Drive Odometer Reading: 49000 Miles Make: RHD Interior Colour: Sand Nappa LeatherClick here for more details and images
Second series Zagato-bodied Appia GTE with European Rally Provenance now in need of a full restoration. Styled like its Aurelia B10 big brother, Lancia’s new Appia small car arrived in 1953. The Lancia tradition of outstanding innovation in automotive technology was exemplified by the Appia’s ultra-compact engine, a narrow-angle (10°) 1,089cc V4 whose inclined overhead-valves were set in hemispherical combustion chambers and operated by twin camshafts in the block. The unitary chassis construction adopted on the pre-war Aprilia was, naturally enough, continued, as was Lancia’s traditional sliding-pillar independent front suspension. Notchback-style Series II cars came with a lengthened wheelbase and more power (up from 38 to 43bhp) while the final (third) series boasted further styling revisions and 48bhp. Complementing the standard Appia saloon were a series of limited edition models produced on a separate chassis and bodied by leading carrozzeria, Pininfarina being responsible for the Coupé, Vignale the Cabriolet and Zagato the GT Coupé. Engine power was increased to 59bhp for these more sporting Appias which, when equipped with Zagato’s lightweight, aerodynamic coachwork, could touch 100mph.Dating from 1962, this Series II left-hand drive GTE Coupé is typical of Zagato's work of the period. It was delivered new to a Tullio Sergio in Ancona (they went on to run Ferrari 275s in the Mille Miglia). Little is known of the cars early years, but it was sold in 1987 to Fabbri Gabriele in Riccione and then put on display in the Hotel Promenade & Residence Museum just south of Rimini. There are two photos in the history file (and on our website) of the Lancia competing on the Monte Carlo - Sestriere Rally – these are unfortunately undated. Our vendor bought the little Lancia with his father some 30 years ago and it was used until around 2010 before joining their impressive private Collection and has not turned a wheel since. There is without doubt more to find out about this rare car and doing the research on a winter’s evening with a bowl of fresh pasta and a glass of Barolo could be rewarding. The car is supplied with its original L’Ispettorato log book, hotel brochure showing the car in the hotel museum and various receipts and items of correspondence. The car has never been UK-registered.With restored examples having achieved over £100k, this project example with competition provenance is sure to excite.Specification Make: LANCIA Model: APPIA Year: 1962 Chassis Number: 812.03-5053 Registration Number: AN 65521 Transmission: Manual Drive Side: Left-hand Drive Make: Only LHD Interior Colour: BlackClick here for more details and images
2-litre Triumph Vitesse-based two-seat Special, superbly crafted, beautifully presented and totally evocative of those glamorous Sports Racers from the 1950s. As an ex-pattern maker and fibreglass laminator at Sunseeker Yachts, Glan Richards was totally familiar with contemporary design, yet his passion was for those glorious, curvaceous sports cars and sports racers from the 1950s. Cars created at a time when body panels were hand-shaped with hammers and wheels, dashboards were made of metal, seat belts were optional and impact bumpers, effective crumple zones, airbag steering wheels and pedestrian-friendly front ends were some way in the future.Over a period of approximately ten months, Glan and colleagues shaped and created the Formosas fibreglass bodyshell, incorporating many of the features and styling cues from those fabulous 1950s racers. A close look will offer reminders of Jaguars C-Type, Maseratis 300S, the Ferrari 750 Monza, Astons DBR1 and others but, as the design didn't lean heavily or replicate any particular marque or model, it avoided all the copyright and patent issues that have recently caused replica builders legal problems. The Formosa was designed to accept the chassis and running gear from a Triumph Vitesse or a Reliant Scimitar SE5A and, by utilising the majority of the donor, minus the bodyshell, it retained the cars classic status, registration, chassis number, etc., still a true 1960s classic, just wearing a different suit of clothes. This particular Formosa 120GR is based on a 2-litre Triumph Vitesse first registered on 1st May 1963 and has covered just 13,559 miles since the build. It was assembled in 2019/20 by Formosa 'guru', Dave Thickins and sold to its first owner in December 2021. Motivation is provided by a twin-carb 1,998cc Triumph six-cylinder generating around 100bhp and mated to a 4-speed manual gearbox. The car is finished in an an attractive shade of steel blue metallic, a couple of shades down from Ecurie Ecosse blue enhanced by a single white 'racing stripe'. External sporty features include a single race-style rear headrest, quick release bonnet catches, twin period side mirrors, centre-mounted chrome filler cap, 'Speedster' style Perspex windscreen, Perspex headlamp covers with P700 lamps, an 'egg crate' front grille, painted wire wheels and a full mohair Tonneau cover.More recent work includes custom-made, fully cushioned, sling back blue leather seats, angled correctly for optimum comfort, new harness seat belts, additional trimming to dash and other parts, new rubber mats, a battery cut out switch, K and N filters and an upgraded fuel tank. It's eligible for free historic road tax (ULEZ exempt!), inexpensive classic car insurance and is MOT-exempt.The Formosa is supplied with its current V5C, an MOT valid until 5th December 2024, an HPI 'all clear' certificate, spare keys, knock-on wheel hammer and spinner spanner, Vitesse owners manual and workshop manual, a toolbag with sundry items and its history file.We understand that this good-looking period road-race style special Triumph is great fun to drive and delivers a nostalgic raspy exhaust note through a single exhaust pipe.
