Original oil on canvas painting by Derek Ashley entitled:"Three green apples and two leaves" Original label on verso initialled 'DA' with the original typed label including the address: Studio 'G' Chelsea Studios, 416 Fulham Road, London. Derek Ashley was born 'Joseph Keenan' in 1919, but adopted the name of Derek Ashley when he embarked on his professional career in art in the 1950's. In the late 1950's he moved into studio 8 in what was termed 'The Italian Village' a complex of 26 studios in Chelsea. In the 1970's he changed his style having been influenced by the work of Salvador Dali. The result was beautifully composed still life paintings. Derek Ashley thrived upon meeting the people who purchased his work so he shunned exhibition galleries and sold his work directly to members of the public. He did this by exhibiting his work at the 'Open Air Exhibition' at London's Green Park.
