ZANUCK DARRYL F.: (1902-1979) American Film Producer and Studio Executive, Academy Award winner. A good series of ten T.Ls.S., Daddy, twenty pages (total), 4to, various places, 29th January 1968 - 13th January 1971, all to his daughter Darrylin Zanuck Pineda in Mexico, and each on the printed stationery of 20th Century Fox. Zanuck writes an interesting series of letters discussing a wide variety of subjects and personal matters including the preparation of her Will under Mexican law, his travel and work schedule, the Olympic Games in Mexico, his family and his views on how his daughter should raise her children, business difficulties with his son, Richard etc., in part, 'I leave a couple of days thereafter on an extended trip….including three days in Normandy to revisit for a television Special dealing with how Normandy looks today as compared with how it looked in "The Longest Day" ' (23rd July 1968), 'I received a letter from Oscar who says he is my grandchild. I don't remember any grandchild by the name of Oscar; but I am sure he is a child whom you have adopted so I am enclosing this check for him [no longer present] which you can give to him with my love.' (5th March 1969), 'I read with shock your letter to Dick concerning the tragedy that almost occurred in your effort to save the drowning woman. It frightened the hell out of me. I understand your bravery, but what I cannot understand is why a hotel like the Hilton would not have a professional Lifeguard on duty at all times, and why some of the other spectators did not come to the rescue until both you and the woman were half drowned. It sounds like a Salvador Dali nightmare.' (29th September 1969), 'Unless you take firm steps to get him [Robert, her son] into a real disciplinary school in Mexico City he is going to end up regrettably in some sort of serious trouble or he will end up in Tijuana playing with his combo in one of those marijuana or LSD joints.' (10th January 1970). Some light overall age wear and a few letters with minor foxing and staining, G to generally VG, 10
