Salvador Dali (1904-1989) original signed "Dante and Beatrice" print from Dali's "Divine Comedy" series, with certificate of authentication from Majestic Galleries, Midtown. Marked with "EA" in pencil (meaning épreuve d'artiste, or 'artist's proof') and Dali's signature also in pencil. 'Divine Comedy', a poem by Dante Alighieri (1265-1321), was illustrated by Dali between 1951 and 1960. Dali created 101 watercolour drawings to interpret the poem. This project was commissioned by the Italian government and Dali was given eight years to complete the project, which was then to be realised as limited edition prints in 1965 to mark the 700th anniversary of Dante's birth.

Sir Gerald Hugh Tyrwhitt-Wilson (Lord Berners) (British, 1883-1950), Rialto Bridge, Venice, signed lower left and dated (19)33, oil on board, framed. 26cm by 40cm. Provenance; with Alex. Reid & Lefevre Ltd, 1A King Street, St. James's (gallery label verso). Note: Lord Berners was a well-known English eccentric who formed part of the International glitterati in the inter-war period. Best known as a composer, he was a friend of Stravinsky and composed film and ballet music. He was immortalised by Nancy Mitford in her books as Lord Merlin who dyed the doves on his estate in various colours and kept a pet giraffe. He travelled widely, particularly in Italy where the subject lot was painted. His dogs wore pearl necklaces, the 140ft folly he built in the ground of his estate bore a sign saying "Members of the public committing suicide from this tower do so at their own risk" and he entertained everyone from Sybil Colefax to Salvador Dali.
