Giambologna, um 1529 Douai – 1608 Florenz, nachVERGOLDETE BRONZESTATUE DES HERKULESHöhe: 42,5 cm. Höhe moderner Holzsockel: 10 cm.Italien, wohl Florenz, 17. Jahrhundert. (1360162) (11)Giambologna, ca. 1529 Douai – 1608 Florence, afterGILT-BRONZE STATUETTE OF HERCULESHeight: 42.5 cm. Height of modern wooden base: 10 cm.Italy, probably Florence, 17th century.Cast after a model by Giambologna. The artist, who was born in the Habsburg Netherlands and commenced his training in Antwerp, is one of the most important sculptors of Italian Mannerism and was predominantly active for the Medici. The main feature of his works is always the movement of his figures in the style of the “figura serpentinata”, i.e. the twisted posture. This is also the concept of the present statuette of Hercules. He is standing, legs wide apart in agitated movement, one arm stretched forward with the left hand opened, while his right hand swings the club. The muscular body is shown naked in the spirit of antiquity. His face is bearded with a ribbon in his hair. Giambologna´s Hercules with the Centaur held at the Loggia dei Lanzi in Florence shows a similar posture and overall concept. Solid bronze casting, cast with mounting pegs on the soles of the feet. Fire-gilt, with partial age-related rubbing. Notes:A similar example is held at the Museo Bargello in Florence.

He was a pioneer in searching for artwork for his collection and began contacting artists to inquire about their works in the mid 1980s. Over time he developed personal relationships with many renowned artists including Ralph McQuarrie, Drew Struzan, Lawrence Noble, and Dave Dorman. In 1986, Plumb organized the "Space Fantasy & Reality Art Expo" at the Maturango Museum in Ridgecrest, California, to benefit the handicapped. The event was supported by contributions from Plumb's artist friends and even Lucasfilm - all of whom loaned materials to Plumb for the display. It was through these personal relationships that Plumb acquired many of the finest pieces in his collection. Throughout the years, Plumb organized or appeared at countless other events and shows, where he proudly displayed his collection and discussed his passion for Star Wars original art with both artists and fans. In 1996, Plumb hosted a panel at San Diego Comic Con on collecting Star Wars artwork specifically. In 2001, he and a small group of fellow collectors commissioned Lawrence Noble to produce the now-famous "Bronze Yoda." TROY (2004) - Achilles' (Brad Pitt) Bronze Sword - Achilles' (Brad Pitt) bronze sword from Wolfgang Petersen's mythical epic Troy. Achilles wielded his sword throughout the film, using it during his dispatching of Boagrius (Nathan Jones), in his battles against the Trojan Apollonians, and in his duel with Hector (Eric Bana). This sword features a curved, leaf-shaped bronze blade decorated with inlays extending from its black solid-cast resin handle. There are holes at each corner of the grip, giving the illusion of rivets, and a ridge runs down the center of the blade to just below the tip. Also included is a bespoke display stand, made in the production's workshop, which features a marble-like stone base, with the film's title artwork painted in gold-color. Green paint has been applied to the handle and bottom of the blade to create the appearance of a verdigris patina, and the weapon has been intentionally distressed to look battle-worn. It exhibits additional signs of wear from use and age, including scuffing to the finish of the sword and base. Dimensions: (displayed) 8.25" x 5.25" x 30" (21 cm x 13 cm x 76 cm)Blade was dulled by production.Estimate: $15,000 - 30,000Bidding for this lot will end on Wednesday, June 28th. GILL PARKER (BRITISH, CONTEMPORARY) AN EQUESTRIAN BRONZE 'MRS MOSS' DATED 1984 The brood mare depicted standing, signed and inscribed to cast, dated 1984 and numbered 1 33.5cm high, base 28cm wide Provenance: Acquired from The Sladmore Gallery by the vendor's father. With accompanying paperwork. A member of the Society of Equestrian Artists and experienced horsewoman, this was the first work produced by Gill Parker in collaboration with The Sladmore Gallery. She writes about this first visit to capture a likeness of the mare; "One day I was asked to meet at the gallery to discuss a commission for one of their clients. Edward drove me out of London but wouldn't tell me where we were going. He told me later that recognising how shy I was, he thought I would get too nervous. After about an hour he turned up the long drive towards Woburn Abbey. This was to be my first major commission and it was of course, as predicted, a horse. Not just any horse, but a famous brood mare called Mrs Moss!" The owner, Henrietta Russell, Dowager Duchess of Bedford, was delighted with the bronze and wrote in 1984: "We now have the bronze and it is a great joy to us. I know that we will have the pleasure of looking at her for the rest of our lives and future generations will know that the incredible Mrs Moss looked like as Gill has captured, so perfectly, every nuance of her being." λ GUIDO RIGHETTI (ITALIAN, 1875-1958), A RARE BRONZE MODEL 'LIÈVRE ASSIS' 20TH CENTURY The seated alert hare on naturalistic base, posthumous lost wax cast, signed to cast G. Righetti, stamped UDB (Univers du Bronze Paris) and EA I/IV 35.5cm high, base 30.5cm long Provenance: The Imogen Paine collection of rabbits Sotheby's, Gleneagles Hotel, 1-2 September 1998, lot 1015Sotheby's, Deborah, Duchess Of Devonshire: The Last Of The Mitford Sisters, 2nd March 2016, lot 262 £9,870 Deborah, Duchess of Devonshire, inherited from her father the 2nd Baron Redesdale a love for country life- for dogs, horses, livestock, agricultural shows and, perhaps most famously, chickens. She was also fond of rabbits- as her purchase of this bronze from Sotheby's Gleneagles sale in 1998 shows. Righetti was born in Milan in 1875 and drawing inspiration from Prince Paulo Troubetzkoy, a friend of the family, turned his hand to modelling and sculpting animals. Troubetzkoy was a vegetarian and animal lover- and lived surrounded by tamer animals. Righetti too seems to have been driven by a greater love for the animal world than some of his predecessors- creating a home for himself in the Hermitage of San Salvatore near Mount Erba- living and sculpting in a building alongside hens, sheep and passing wilder animals. He worked from life- the pets at home, the wilder caged animals in the zoos and the uncaged wild animals around him. Exhibiting in Italy at first- he went on to show at the 1914 Venice International Exhibition and the San Francisco World Fair in 1915. Margherita Sarfatti writing of his exhibition at the Central Art Gallery in 1920 stated :"the sculptor Guido Righetti, one of the very few Italian sculptors, who shows that he is assiduously interested and pay attention to the groupings and games of muscles and limbs of our adorable lower brothers.."Condition Report: Good and with very mild wear as per handling and age.
