An exquisite 19th-century original oil painting titled La Chasse au Faucon (Falcon Hunting Scene) by the renowned French artist John Lewis-Brown (1829€“1890). Known for his dynamic portrayals of equestrian and hunting themes, Brown captures a moment of elegance and action, depicting two ladies observing a falcon being released by a handler as part of an aristocratic hunting expedition. The composition is rich in movement, from the detailed depiction of horses in mid-stride to the vibrant foliage and atmospheric background. Signed prominently on the lower right: John Lewis-Brown. This artwork is housed in a beautifully crafted, lightly gilded, carved wooden frame, lending an air of refinement to the piece. Additionally, the frame includes a nameplate at the lower center, engraved with the artist's name, dates, and the painting's title. John Lewis-Brown was a French painter and lithographer celebrated for his mastery of equestrian and military scenes. Born in Bordeaux in 1829, he studied under the tutelage of Eugene Isabey and Rosa Bonheur, both influential figures in 19th-century French art. Brown's works often reflected the themes of his time, portraying aristocratic leisure, dynamic hunting scenes, and the interplay between man and nature. His exceptional ability to render lifelike movement, particularly in animals, established his reputation as one of the foremost equestrian painters of his era. Brown exhibited at the Paris Salon from 1848 onward and won critical acclaim, earning awards such as a medal at the 1865 Salon and a bronze medal at the 1878 Exposition Universelle. His works are held in prestigious collections, including the Musee d'Orsay in Paris.
