A Late 19th Century French Gilt Bronze Rotary Pendulum Mystery Clock, By Henri-Eugene-Adrien Farco, Paris, No.49568, the 3.5ins dial with Roman numerals, to the two train movement striking on a bell (missing), the movement backplate stamped with an anchor and star maker's mark, contained in bow and breakfront case of architectural design with fluted scroll side brackets and surmounted by a figure of a classical maiden, her right arm raised to support a pendulum with a globe bob, on turned and cast feet, 24ins high and shaped and moulded gilt plinthExternally the clock presents in condition commensurate with age and moderate usage. There are areas of gilding particularly to the top of the clock where the gilding is quite rubbed. The wooden base has numerous chips and nibbles to the front edge, 2.5ins wide where it is missing and in general round the sides. The figurine on the top has been at some point either painted or re-gilded (in our opinion). There are numerous marks in general to the paint finish including some staining. It is also rubbed to the lower edge of the robe. The pendulum appears to be in good condition although we cannot warrant that it is the original. The enamel dial is in good condition free from any hairline cracks, chips or obvious damage although it is a little bright and it may possibly have had some restoration. There is no rear cover to the mechanism. The mechanism appears complete but we cannot warrant its originality. The clock should be considered as non-running. Overall an example that has had some obvious attempt at restoration in the past but would benefit from further work. Prospective bidders are strongly advised to study all images closely prior to bidding as they form part of the condition report.
