A MULTI GEM SET CUFF BANGLE The tapering broad gold coloured bangle set with variously shaped cabochon and facetted sapphires, emeralds and rubies, with trios of brilliant cut diamonds, approximately 0.70 carats total, unmarked Size/dimensions: 3.1cm wide, bangle inner width 5.7cm to 6.3cm Gross weight: 45.1 grams Condition Report: The cuff has some light scuffs and scratches, a couple of small knocks and small deeper scratches to the bangles edge. The stones are all present and correct, the two oval cabochon rubies have slightly abraded looking surfaces, but this could be due to the polish of the stone and surface reaching inclusions. The noted 19th century art historian and Indian art scholar Ernest Binfield Havell, who was principal of the Madras School of Industrial Arts from 1884 to 1892; the Principal of the Calcutta School of Art; Keeper of the Government Art Gallery from 1896 to 1906, and a founder of the Indian Society, describes how bangles such as these were the preserve of Indian Royalty and Nobility, and were worn by Princes and Rajas, and also often gifted by them to other high ranking recipients. Condition Report: The bangle has a slight bend to the emerald screw in fitting surmount and so it isn't entirely straight. There are a couple of tiny holes to the gold surface which appears to be from construction. The emeralds are all present and correct, bright, one of them has a few small chips/nibbles, only noticeable under close inspection. The hinge and screw fitting in good working order. An Archaeological Revival gold bangle, of hinged oval form, applied to the front with a frieze of ropetwist, wirework and beaded scrolls and borders, signed SB&S and stamped '15CT', cased by Camerer, Kuss & Co., inner diameter 6.05cmSome elements are missing to the applied wirework and bead decoration. Patchy tarnishing/discolouration to frieze and bangle interior. Splits/chips to the outer edges of the back of the bangle, to the side of bangle and to the hinge. Dings, dents and chips/nicks to bangle, commensurate for use, with scuffs and scratches throughout, mostly to the back. The hinge is currently functioning and the clasp is tight fitting. Width 3.15cm. Metal standard is untested. Gross weight approximately 49.2gm. The case is worn.

A mid 19th century cameo bangle, the oval shell cameo carved to depict the portrait profile of a bearded gentleman, signed Saulini F possibly for Tommaso Saulini, to a hinged tapered bangle applied with textured scrolling foliage, cased, cameo dimensions 4.95cm length x 3.65cm width, bangle inner diameter 6.55cm Please note that it is not known whether the signature is original to the cameo or later applied. We are therefore unable to confirm whether the cameo was carved by Saulini.Several hairline fractures to cameo, with surface wear throughout and small nicks/chips to high points of the carved decoration. The cameo mount and bangle have general surface wear, scuffs and nicks/chips, with occasional shallow dings/dents and patchy tarnishing/staining, with traces of verdigris. The clasp is tight fitting. The reverse of the cameo mount and an area to the bangle interior have some deep scuffs/filing marks. The cameo mount and bangle are untested as gold/gilt metal and could be a combination of both, or a combination of different metal standards. The bangle tapers in width from 3.65cm at the shoulders to 2.05cm at the back and the cameo mount measures 5.55cm in length. Gross weight approximately 62.5gm. The case has considerable wear, with tears and losses to the interior lining and part of the fastener is missing.
