From long-term ownership, a simply stunning example of a very rare car. Exceptionally rare, one of only 32 right-hand drive, 3.4-litre ‘S’ RoadstersThe 150 'S' delivered 250bhp with the aid of a Weslake-developed, straight-port cylinder head, high-compression pistons, triple 2” SU carburettors and twin fuel pumpsOriginally registered on 16/06/1959, the Jaguar was purchased by our vendor in 1970Several stalled restorations and life itself meant that this glorious XK150 eventually returned to the road in 2019The final leg was entrusted to Alan Holdaway, an established Concours Jaguar restorerThis was an 'every nut and bolt' restoration and the quality is unmatchedSupplied with the original Green Logbook, V5s, older MOTs, early photographs, the ownership story by the vendor and a very recent (April 2021) copy of Jaguar World with a six-page article and road test of JK 150With its flawless interior, tight shut-lines, immaculate paint, sparkling chrome and powerful, torquey straight-six, this a special example of a quintessential sporting Jaguar Launched in 1957, the Jaguar XK150 was the most radical step forward in the XK range since the launch of the revolutionary XK120. The XK150 was vastly different in both style and performance from the XK140 it replaced and was a much bigger step forward than had been taken from the 120 to the 140. The most striking external change was the straighter wing line, widened bonnet and single wrap-around windscreen, which replaced the now-dated two-piece split screen. This gave the XK150 an altogether more modern look. More generous interior space was also achieved by putting the doors on a diet and the wooden interior was lost in favour of leather-clad dashboard and door cappings. At 190bhp, the 3.4-litre engine's maximum power output was identical to that of the XK140, so performance was little changed, but ‘Special Equipment' and 'S' versions offered 210 and 250bhp respectively, the latter delivering an astonishing 0-60mph time of 7.3 seconds and a top speed of 136mph. This improvement in performance resulted from the adoption of a Weslake-developed, straight-port cylinder head, high-compression pistons, triple 2” SU carburettors and twin electric fuel pumps. Overdrive and a Borg-Warner automatic gearbox were the transmission options, the latter becoming an increasingly popular choice, whilst a Thornton ‘Power-Lok’ limited-slip differential was available for the 150S. Steel wheels remained the standard fitting although XK150s so equipped are a great rarity as most were sold in SE (Special Equipment) form with centre-lock wire wheels. Only 92, right-hand drive, 3.4-litre roadsters were built, making a UK-supplied, RHD ‘S’ a bit of a rare beastie.According to its ‘Green’ Logbook, TS820043DN was first registered on 16/06/1959 finished in Signal Red but not much else is known about its early years. It certainly hadn’t been looked after as, when our vendor and the Jag’s long-term owner Chris Blackmore went to see it in response to an advert in ‘Exchange & Mart’, it was in a very poor state. It didn’t have any carpets, seats or a bonnet, the spare wheel well was rusted through, the interior was filthy and the engine didn’t run, however, a deal was done at £230 and JK 150 was subsequently registered to a young Chris Blackmore. Some 51 years later, he still owns the car and it is undoubtedly one of the best we have ever seen. However, the transformation from Ugly Duckling to Graceful Swan was not a linear one as the 150’s initial restoration was not altogether successful. The majority of the mechanical work was carried out by Chris himself (a trained mechanical engineer) and the bodywork was entrusted to legendary Cobra specialist, Rod Leach. At our vendor’s request, it was painted two-tone Turquoise Blue and Emerald Green, both Chrysler colours, which, we imagine sounded quite good on paper but ended up really clashing, resulting in the car being a bit of a head-turner, for the wrong reasons. (pictures in the History File). Nevertheless, Chris enjoyed the XK throughout the Seventies even venturing as far as Paris. Other aspects of ‘life’ took priority in the early Eighties and JK 150 was to spend the next 30-odd years in a succession of dry garages and lock-ups before the decision was taken in 2009 to return the car to a Concours standard. This time the restoration was to be comprehensive and, after a suggestion from Mick Duffy at the JDC, Alan Holdaway from Surrey was given the project. According to our vendor “Mick was, and still is, an XK aficionado and has had two XKs previously restored by Alan, both Concours winners”. Alan totally dismantled and then carefully rebuilt the car from the bottom up. All the nuts and bolts were plated, the chassis treated and then protectively painted, the engine rebuilt, the wiring replaced and the standard Moss gearbox was updated with a modern Toyota five-speed transmission. The body panels were repaired and prepared and the car was painted in an exquisite dark metallic red (details in the file). Finally, leading interior specialists, MCT in Nuneaton fitted a new hood and retrimmed the seats and dashboard to a fabulous standard as you can see from the images. Other financial commitments meant that the restoration was put on hold from time to time and this glorious XK150 eventually returned to the road in 2019.The car’s History File contains the original Green Logbook, V5s, older MOTs, photographs of the car in red and two-tone, the ownership story by the vendor and a very recent (April 2021) copy of Jaguar World with a six-page article and road test of JK 150. We understand that all the restoration invoices are available. With its flawless interior, tight shut-lines, immaculate paint, sparkling chrome and powerful, torquey straight-six, this a special example of a quintessential sporting Jaguar and as one of only 32, RHD, 3.4-litre ‘S’ Roadsters, it’s also rather rare.Click here for more details and images
One of only 2,000, a skateboard for grown-ups, packaged by Mercedes for the Swiss Swatch Company and breathed on by Brabus. The Smart Crossblade was originally unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show in March 2001 as a concept vehicleIts introduction created such hysteria that Smart built a limited run of 2,000 individually numbered cars.Described as 'an open leisure car uncompromisingly designed for blue skies and high spirits', the concept had no roof, doors, and a minimal screen, almost like a modern Beach BuggyBrabus-tuned, 599cc, 3-cylinder engine in the rear generating a decent 70bhp Six-speed semi-automatic transmission‘0063’ is typically presented in the attractive colour combination of Black with a Red interior and is in good all round condition4,644 miles from new, UK V5C and excitingly on offer without reserve! The Smart Crossblade was originally unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show in March 2001 as a concept vehicle, created under the mantra of "less is more". Its small size and surprising power output moved it along in traffic, due in part to the fact that the car weighed a mere 1,600 pounds, thus making it rather nippy. Its introduction created such hysteria that Smart built a limited run of 2,000 individually-numbered cars. Described as "an open leisure car uncompromisingly designed for blue skies and high spirits", the concept had no roof, doors, or windscreen and it was more like a beach buggy. The clever packaging came from Mercedes-Benz, who designed the car for the Swiss Swatch Company and also supplied the base engines, which have been tweaked by Brabus to produce 70hp. Priced at €21,000, the car sold out quickly after it was introduced in June 2002. Those of us sufficiently ancient to remember the time when the 'young and beautiful' cruised up and down Carnaby Street in a Beach Buggy on a Saturday Morning in the late-sixties will see this as its natural successor. This Smart Crossblade, which is identified by its individual production number of ‘0063’, is typically presented in the attractive colour combination of black with a red interior. Having only covered 4,644 miles from new, this Crossblade is now offered to auction from a significant private collection and is accompanied by its V5C. Excitingly offered 'without reserve', this is an exciting opportunity to acquire a cool little car to get you efficiently around the large European racing circuit paddocks or provide a fun trip to the beach! A cleverly-engineered, hand-built re-creation of the pretty little 206SP using a 246 Dino as a base.A US-supplied, left-hand drive Ferrari 246 expertly re-engineered into a remarkable 206 SP re-creationChassis professionally modified in the US, 206 SP Alloy body constructed by Giordenengo in Italy to original specificationsFitted with a longitudinally-mounted, 206 alloy block engine understood to have been rebuilt with balanced crank and motorsport pistonsCurrently UK-registered as an historic vehicle, previously registered in Germany and on-the-button ready for useIssued with FIVA papers in November 2012, features in ‘Ferrari World Book’ chassis 01508 Type 246 Red Dino 206 replicaBody and interior beautifully restored in the UK by highly regarded classic specialists Sherwood RestorationsA beautiful machine with excellent road manners suitable for road or perhaps competition useLike its big brother, the 330P3, the Dino 206S was bodied by Drogo’s Carrozzeria Sports Cars and utilised a multi-tube frame with alloy panels riveted to it for additional stiffness, in essence a semi-monocoque structure. Ferrari’s intention was that 50 of the cars would be built, qualifying it as an FIA Group 4 Sports Car, but the financial difficulties that would lead to Ferrari’s merger with Fiat three years later prevented that optimistic goal from being met and in the end only 18 of these wonderful, quick, beautiful sports racers were built. Consequently, what started out as a Dino 206 S (for Sport) became known as the Dino 206 SP (Sport Prototipo).Offered here is a truly remarkable 206 SP re-creation constructed using a 1971 246 Dino GT as a base with the chassis re-engineered in the USA and an all-alloy body beautifully hand-crafted in Italy. This car started life as an American-spec Ferrari Dino supplied new in 1971 and at some point, when Dino values were at a low ebb, a high quality conversion was undertaken.Documents within the history file confirm that Jim Carpenter, a well-regarded Ferrari specialist based in Arizona, would be responsible for the Chassis modification and an all-Aluminium hand-crafted body would be commissioned by Giordenengo in Italy. The ’71 246 GT chassis was professionally modified to accept a longitudinally-mounted Ferrari 206 Dino alloy block engine which, we understand, had been uprated with ‘motorsport’ pistons, a balanced crankshaft, connecting rods and flywheel.Reportedly never raced, the car was exported to Germany with all copies of registration papers on file and later imported into the UK. Once in the UK, the car was subject to further attention from highly regarded classic specialists, Sherwood Restorations. The scope of work included some bodywork, a full re-paint in Rosso Corsa, a new custom-made windscreen (with a spare also produced which accompanies the car), a cabin re-trim and various other works to bring this fascinating 206 SP re-creation up to its best. It must be noted that the standard of finish achieved is remarkable and any inspection of this vehicle is highly recommended with no disappointment expected.Accompanying the car is an equally fascinating and detailed history file including a copy of the FIVA Identity Card granted in 2012, current UK registration papers (V5c), copies of previous German registration papers, details and invoices for restorations works by Sherwood Restorations, invoices from other more recent mechanical maintenance works, old MOT Certificates, correspondence between previous owners and Jim Carpenter, the Ferrari Owners Club UK and copies of paperwork from America. In summary, this is a very attractive, well-engineered, highly versatile 206 SP re-creation that can be enjoyed as a well-mannered sports car or perhaps used in competition. The overall quality of finish is remarkably good, the Targa roof can be removed and neatly stows in the rear, the visibility from the cabin is superb, the controls are light and extremely responsive, the engine fires on-the-button and sounds keen and healthy and we are informed that the handling at speed is sublime. It’s also worth noting that this example is recorded in the ‘Ferrari World Book’ – Handbuch Der Ferrari Seriennummern 1947-2007 which records ‘Chassis 01508 – Type 246 Red Dino 206 Replica’ which certainly underlines its provenance. To re-create this 206 SP replica today to this standard would cost a fortune, with a donor potentially costing as much as our lower estimate and we believe we believe, at this guide, this gorgeous little red Ferrari represents superb value. Fresh from a complete nut and bolt restoration, this lovely 1952 Roadster has just been run-in and is now ready for the summer. This 1952 Roadster was imported from Southern California just two years ago. Since been through a complete restoration, fully documented with photographs Converted to right-hand drive, brand new steering-box components and original right-hand drive controlsUpgrades include disc brakes, front and rear, a new servo and a bespoke Aluminium radiator More powerful 3.4-litre XK150 engine fitted, now fully rebuilt Bias towards the racing heritage with the addition of a Le Mans fuel filler, leather bonnet strap, period spotlights and the deletion of the front bumper bladesCompletely new interior, in red with leather-trimmed bucket seats "The engine pulls strongly, is silky smooth with no flat-spots, and starts on the button every time whether hot or cold."Fabulous restoration of a Jaguar Classic that bears a striking resemblance to NUB 120, the world's most famous XK JaguarA car-starved Britain, still trundling around in perpendicular pre-war hangover vehicles, glimpsed the future in October 1948 with the launch of the Jaguar XK120 at the Earls Court Motor Show. Production commenced in 1949 in Coventry, and the XK's swoopy shape and stylish occupants would become a common sight on British roads over the next 15 years. It heralded the arrival of Jaguar's famous 3.4-litre twin overhead camshaft XK engine, (the basis of all their engines for the next 25 years) with an alloy cylinder head and twin side-draught SU carburettors producing nearly 160bhp. Conceived during the war, the new six-cylinder was created by Jaguar’s chief engineer Bill Heynes and engine wizard Harry Weslake. As the firm tested various designs (labelled X for experimental and tagged G, H or J), it was a compact twin-cam four labelled ‘K’ that stood out. With two more cylinders added taking it to 3.4 litres, it became the engine that would power generations of sporting Jaguars for several decades starting with the XK120 The “120” referred to the car's top speed which, at the time, made it the fastest production car in the world. Jaguar seems to have always had a flair for marketing and to illustrate that the car's top speed was not a figment of a publicist's imagination, in May 1949, on the Jabbeke to Aeltre autoroute, an XK120 with its hood and side screens in place recorded a speed of 126mph, and no less than 132mph with the hood and windscreen detached and an undertray fitted. However, the most famous XK120 is undoubtedly Ian Appleyard's legendary 'NUB 120'. He was a director of the family car dealership, Appleyards of Leeds, and a talented rally driver. Using his alloy-bodied, privately-entered 120 and accompanied by his wife, Pat Lyons, daughter of Jaguar founder William Lyons, they enjoyed great results at International level in the Tulip Rally, RAC and Monte Carlo, however, it was their success in the Alpine Rally, finishing unpenalised three times in a row from 1950 to 1952, and becoming the first driver to win the coveted Coupe d’Or (Gold Cup), that’s most feted. Jaguar, of course, missed no opportunity to market the XK120’s success everywhere, Pathé newsreels, Sunday papers, billboards, the sides of London buses “The fastest Production Sports Car in the World”, motoring magazines, simply everywhere in the English-speaking world. With its catchy registration number, NUB 120, became a household name and is probably the most promoted individual Jaguar in the world. It still resides within the Jaguar Heritage Collection and is brought out a dozen times a year.Anyone looking at the striking XK120 Roadster on offer here can’t fail to notice the similarity to NUB 120 which, according to our vendor, the car's creator, is not entirely a coincidence. In his own words:"This 1952 Roadster was imported from the US just 2 years ago. It’s a Southern Californian car so was amazingly rust-free and proved a perfect candidate for refurbishment. It has since been through a complete restoration from end to end, fully documented with photographs taken every step of the way. It was converted to RHD using brand new steering-box components and a complete set of original RHD pedal controls. Along the way, there have been a few upgrades incorporated to help with safety and overall efficiency. Disc brakes have been installed front and rear utilising brand new components from Zeus Engineering along with a new servo system and a bespoke Aluminium radiator has been fitted and adapted for the engine which is now a fully rebuilt 3.4-litre unit from a later, more powerful XK150. The electrics have been upgraded utilising an original factory loom modified with additional relays and fuses, plus switches for the spot lights, indicators and manual control of the starting carburettor. An alternator has also been fitted allowing the rectifier to be deleted. A custom throttle-linkage has been created which allows for different pedal travel and provides much improved throttle response compared to the original rod-operated system. Finally, a unique custom twin exhaust system has been built which follows the later XK140/150 design but still retains the ‘look’ of a 120 at the rear with factory-looking twin pipes.Throughout the restoration process, there has been a biClick here for more details and images
Matching numbers and extensively upgraded since 2005 to 'fast-road' specification for the personal use of a former F1 team engineer.• Dispatched on 25/02/1963 to Jaguar Cars in New York for onward delivery to San Jose, California• Imported to the UK and registered on the 10th June 1993, our vendor purchased the matching numbers E-Type in 2005• The engine was rebuilt with new pistons, bearings, chains, high-flow oil filter and 2-inch Burlen carbs with flame guards• A new clutch was fitted together with a Derek Watson suspension kit, uprated brakes and 2-inch full-flow stainless exhaust system• Aluminium inner wings, ex-Modsports GRP racing bonnet with 22 aluminium louvres and lightweight headlight covers over new headlights• Three full ring-bound folders document the exhaustive list of receipted works and the odometer reading is some 1,500 miles (atoc)• As a former mechanical engineer in F1 racing and currently professor of automotive technology management, our vendor is meticulous• A unique opportunity to purchase a matching-numbers, early E-Type for speedy UK jaunts and perfect for continental touring. Volumes have been written about the E-Type and as this very special example demands serious attention, we shall go straight in. The accompanying Heritage Certificate confirms that the car was manufactured on the 7th February 1963 in left-hand drive and finished in Opalescent Dark Green with a Suede Green interior, the combination it wears today, and further confirms matching numbers engine and gearbox. Originally delivered to a Mr J.W. Smith of San Jose, California, a parking permit for the Santa Barbara Waterfront dated 1991 is still affixed to the windscreen today, the car was repatriated on the 10th June 1993 when it was registered in the UK, and subsequently purchased by our vendor on the 23rd December 2005.Joining his extensive collection of cars, and resisting the urge to convert to right-hand drive, the intention was to create the ultimate 'fast-road' E-Type, retaining factory colours, whilst upgrading the car’s engine, suspension, brakes and auxiliaries using components supplied by specialists in the world of competition E-Types. Having spent a lifetime engaged in automotive engineering, mostly with competition cars, he was quite clear about the modifications and the exact components required to fulfil the 'fast-road car' brief.A mechanical engineer, he started his career with the Rootes Group before moving into both Formula 1 and later Formula 2 as a development engineer working with drivers such as John Surtees and Graham Hill. Whilst retaining a passion for racing cars and motorbikes he subsequently moved into academia becoming Professor of Automotive Technology Management. A noted expert in his field, he has sat on various government and international committees relating to the automotive industry and was awarded a CBE by Her Majesty The Queen in recognition of his service to the industry.Full build details can be supplied via email, but we state in brief the extensive works carried out. The original engine was fully rebuilt; the head was restored and fitted with new 9.1 CR pistons with uprated rings, new seals, bearings and chains were fitted throughout together with an uprated oil pump. Burlen Fuel Systems supplied a trio of their bespoke 2in SUs with short bellmouths and flame guards, electronic ignition was fitted together with new electrical auxiliaries connected to a period-painted Lucas type battery. A new 2in full-flow stainless steel exhaust system provides a glorious soundtrack. The original gearbox was overhauled within the past 500 miles and mated to a new clutch and flywheel. Derek Watson was retained to upgrade the front suspension with improved wishbones, 4-pot Jaguar callipers and ventilated discs, as well as competition steering rack, roll-bar, bushes and XJS uprights and bearings with stainless steel brake lines. Four new MWS wire wheels, painted in body colour, enhanced by 2-eared chrome plated knock-offs, are shod with Pirelli P4000 tyres. To complement the mechanical works, a replica 'Lightweight E-Type' GRP competition bonnet with 22 aluminium louvres joined new aluminium inner wings, space-frame panels and new headlights under 'Lightweight' headlight covers.Attention to the cabin included retrimming the competition leather seats and door cards, a new headlining and fresh carpets. Modern engine management technology is discreetly represented by a Derek Watson supplied temperature switch with JEC oil pressure gauge kit and sender unit and the 1963 period Motorola radio has been converted to MP3. The receipts for parts and invoices for all these works are neatly documented in three ring-binder folders and include the aforementioned Heritage Certificate, correspondence and paperwork. The odometer reading of some 1,500 miles, (at the time of cataloguing), is largely immaterial when considering the work carried out and the MOT is valid until the 4th October 2021. Very rarely does a matching-numbers E-Type in original left-hand drive and factory delivered colours come to market, and even less frequently one that has been treated to bespoke, circuit-focussed upgrades by a Formula 1 development engineer for his own enjoyment. Many 'fast-road' E-Types are simply a collection of parts from different specialists and are frequently not much fun to drive, whereas 'APB' has been engineered in a cohesive and intelligent way, carefully set-up, further tweaked, and set-up again, all of which has resulted in a simply spectacular road car Regretfully offered to auction due to our vendor’s advancing years and limited mobility, this is a great opportunity to enjoy this superb handling, left-hand drive, fully rebuilt Grand Tourer on long continental trips.SpecificationMake: JAGUARModel: E-TYPEYear: 1963Chassis Number: 888221Registration Number: APB 883ATransmission: ManualEngine Number: RA1088-9 Drive Side: Left-hand DriveOdometer Reading: 1500 MilesMake: LHDInterior Colour: GreenClick here for more details and images

It was designed by renowned MG designer Syd Enever and featured a much more aerodynamic design whose shape still looks familiar today. Following its launch, the MGA proved to be a hit and over 100,000 were sold by 1962 in both 2-door roadster and 2-door coupe body styles. This 1958 roadster offers great potential as a project car and is finished in the iconic British Racing Green. The shell itself has been well restored and still presents well. It is also noted that the car's original 1500cc engine has been swapped out for a later MGB 1,800cc unit mated to an MGA gearbox. The steering rack has also been built. Offered with a new radiator, windscreen, bumpers and some other small items. This is a great project vehicle with a lot of potential.Vendor Score Total: 36/100Bidders should note that the automated 100-point Seller's Assessment is provided by each Seller at the point of consignment using the guidelines below, and is not provided, assessed or verified by Bonhams MPH. 1932 MG J2Registration no. YY 5032Chassis no. J2141Odometer reading: N/AMOT: Exempt*MG J2*Good condition*Engine rebuilt in 1997*Extensive historyFootnotes:Launched in August 1932, the MG J2 was engineered with the enthusiast in mind. It was powered by a 847cc single overhead cam four-cylinder engine which, paired with a four-speed gearbox, could reach an outstanding top speed of 82mph. It's look was also unmistakably MG with its long squared bonnet, folding windscreen and chrome wire wheels. Over 2,000 units were sold between 1932 and 1934, and at a cost of just £199 it was excellent value, and as a result the J2 proved successful. This 1932 example is presented in good condition and comes with a large history file that includes its original buff logbook, old bills and various paperwork. The file also includes invoices for an engine rebuild by CRG Engineering (MG specialists) in 1997 and other mechanical works. Having been in its current ownership since 2008, the vendor has kept the car in excellent condition and has maintained it himself. Recent work on the car includes a new mohair hood that was fitted over the original frame in 2008. The vendor believes that the car was rebuilt in the 1980s with a replacement chassis. This is a good example of a classic pre-war British sports car.Vendor Score Total: 78/100Bidders should note that the automated 100-point Seller's Assessment is provided by each Seller at the point of consignment using the guidelines below, and is not provided, assessed or verified by Bonhams MPH. It featured the same chassis as the MKV, however it had an all-new body that was more streamlined with its integrated headlights, two piece windscreen and large overhang. The MKVII was powered by the same 3.4-litre straight-six engine that featured in the XK and produced 160hp, however this was later increased to 190hp in later models. This 1953 example was purchased new at Brylan Motors in Melbourne, Australia, where it remained until it was imported into the UK in 2013. Overall, it is in good condition and the Pastal blue exterior and blue leather interior both present well. Inside, the car features a Jaguar XJ6 manual gearbox with overdrive, and also has a rare sunroof and tool kit in the driver's door. This is a low mileage example that has only 87,234 miles from new. There is also good history with the car, however it has not been used since 2019. It will require recommissioning before being put to active use.Vendor Score Total: 66/100Bidders should note that the automated 100-point Seller's Assessment is provided by each Seller at the point of consignment using the guidelines below, and is not provided, assessed or verified by Bonhams MPH. 1965 Fiat Autobianchi BianchinaRegistration no. JGU 39OCChassis no. 110B082800Odometer reading: TBAMOT Expiry: Exempt*Very original example*Formally exhibited in the Fiat Museum*Rebuilt engineBased on the original Fiat 500, the Autobianchi Bianchina debuted in 1957 as a small yet sophisticated car that was offered in saloon, cabriolet, estate and van configurations. This 1965 example, presented in an excellent condition, was exhibited in the Fiat 500 museum in Garlenda on the Italian Riviera before its life in the UK. Since its arrival and previous ownership, the car has been kept very well and has been serviced regularly by its enthusiast owner, who purchased the car at the Bonhams 2016 Goodwood members meeting. Prior to the vendors ownership, the vehicle was kept as part of a private collection and used sparingly and solely for the summer. This is a very original example that is thought to be one of the cleanest and unmolested Bianchina's left on the road. The previous owner undertook an engine rebuild of its original 499cc engine, which required work due to brittle gaskets. During the rebuild the engine was bored out from 67.4mm to 70mm to give it a little extra power. The bodywork, bumpers and all the external and internal features are believed to be original. Even the windscreen stickers and supplying dealer sticker (Commissionaria Autobianchi, Ginno Nanni, Pistoria, Italia) are still in place. The car also comes with its original owner's manual, Italian service book and registration documents, spare key, copy correspondence, V5C, and photographs of its time in the museum. WP0ZZZ99ZTS370260Odometer reading: 91,466MOT: May 2022 *993 Turbo*UK RHD car*Large history fileFootnotes:First registered at Lancaster, Bow on 14 April 1995, this Porsche 993 Turbo is a genuine UK right-hand drive example that is presented in very good condition. Finished in Polar Silver Metallic, the paintwork is presenting very well for its age, and the Marble grey/black leather interior is also in very good order. The interior is showing few signs of wear, which is a testament to its condition (considering its mileage of 91,466 miles). Over its lifetime the car has been very well maintained with main dealer stamps up until 84,000 miles. The vendor has owned the car since 2014, and it's last major service was undertaken only 1,500 miles ago in July 2017 at a cost of £6,561 miles at Porsche Centre, Portsmouth. There is a large history folder with the car that includes its original owners handbook, service book, and multiple old MOTs and bills. The car has a Porsche Certificate of Authenticity from 2014 and also has a Porsche car cover. Factory options include sport leather seats, a top tinted windscreen, a sunroof, and a Sony CD tuner. All the electronics are reported to be working as they should be, however the locking remotes are not in the best condition (but still work). In 2008 a Super Cup sports exhaust was fitted and sounds excellent. The 3.6-litre twin-turbocharged flat-six is reported to be running and driving well and has an MOT expiry in May 2022. This is a superb example that has been regularly used and stored in a secure car storage facility. 1972 Triumph TR6 Transmission: manualMileage:62274The Triumph TR6 was manufactured for seven years from 1969 and by the time production came to an end in July 1976, it was the best-seller of the TR range. The bodywork closely resembled that of the previous model, the Triumph TR5, but the front and rear were squared off and all TR6s featured inline six-cylinder engines. For the US market, the engine was fitted with carburettors whilst, for other world markets including the UK, the TR6 was fitted with fuel-injection. It featured a four-speed manual gearbox, independent rear suspension, rack and pinion steering, 15 wheels and tyres, pile carpet on the floors and boot, bucket seats and a full complement of instruments. Assembled on 1st November 1971 and despatched the next day to be shipped to Portland, USA on the shipping vessel ‘Bluemaster’, this lovely TR6 was originally ordered in Sapphire Blue with a black interior and hood. Whilst the interior and hood remain the same colour, having just been subject to a photo documented, frame off restoration, the vendor decided to change the cars colour to the beautiful Carmine Red it presents in today. The supplied BMI Heritage Certificate also shows that the car left the factory with several options including; laminated windscreen, tonneau cover, heater, jack, tool roll and a spare wheel. The vendor took on the restoration after the previous owner had found himself in over his head with it. Over the next year or so he completed the full frame off restoration. The chassis was blasted, primed and painted. The body was remarkably rust free and required little attention other than being painted. All the suspension components and drivetrain were either restored or replaced with new parts, with the car boasting new parts such as; suspension components, stainless steel exhaust, new Minilite wheels and tyres. Whilst rebuilding the car, the decision was made to replace the original four speed TR box with a modern five speed unit from a Toyota Supra to improve drivability and motorway cruising. The original box is included with the car should any future owner wish to convert it back. The interior was treated to many new parts as well including the dash, seats, carpets, hood, tonneau cover and even the rubbers! Having only covered around 1,200 miles since its completion, the vendor reports the car runs and drives even better than when new.Supplied with the documents required to register the car in the UK as the first owner, including the all important NOVA confirmation. Also supplied is its BMI Heritage Certificate and original gearbox, this lovely TR6 offers the chance to own a fully restored car that combines both classic thrills with modern driving convenience. Interested parties should satisfy themselves as to the description and condition of each lot prior to the sale. Accordingly, buyers are on notice that each vehicle is offered ‘as is/as seen’ subject to the Terms and Conditions for the auction. 1977 Alfa Romeo 2000 Spider Veloce Transmission: manualMileage:94947The Alfa Romeo Spider was produced from 1966 to 1993 and is widely regarded as a design classic. It remained in production for almost three decades with only minor aesthetic and mechanical changes. The first presentation of the car, as a prototype, was at the Turin Motor Show in 1961; however, the continuing success of existing models and the economic challenges facing Italy at the time meant that the first pre-launch Spiders only began to emerge from the Pininfarina production line at the end of 1965. During 1970, the Giulia 105 Series Spider was updated in numerous areas. Most significantly, was the revision at the rear. Gone was its round-tail look and, in its place, was the aerodynamically more efficient, Wunibald Kamm design. Other changes were not so easily spotted. The windscreen was more inclined leading to additional modifications. Adorning the front was a new heart shaped grille and revised bumpers. The 1300 and 2000 cars were modified in 1974 and 1975 respectively to include two small seats behind the front seats, becoming a 2+2. Several other detail changes were made before production changed to the Series III model in 1982.This very nice 1977 Alfa Romeo 2000 Spider Veloce (Kammtail) has been in the same family ownership for the last 30 years. It was restored in 1992 by marque specialists, Benalfa Performance Cars, at a cost of just over £11,000. Since the restoration, the car has been dry-stored and fully maintained and serviced by Benalfa and T.O. Bassett & Son of Lamberhurst at a further cost of £14,500. Since 1993, the MoT certificate indicates that the car has only covered 14,000 miles. Finished in red with black hood and black interior, this 2000 Spider is supplied with a roll over bar, a UK V5C registration document, an MoT test certificate which expires in June 2022, the original owner’s manual and service coupon book together with a large history file with all the invoices from the restoration in 1992 and further invoices from the continuous maintenance that has been carried out. The car is also being offered with the personal number plate 700 UPX. It is rare to find an Alfa Romeo Spider of this quality on the market today, especially one that looks this good and drives well.Interested parties should satisfy themselves as to the description and condition of each lot prior to the sale. Accordingly, buyers are on notice that each vehicle is offered ‘as is/as seen’ subject to the Terms and Conditions for the auction. 1962 Jaguar E-Type Series I Fixedhead Coupé (3.8 litre) Transmission: manualMileage:645232021 marks the 60th anniversary of the iconic Jaguar E-Type. Launched at the Geneva Motor Show in 1961 the car was nothing short of a revelation. The visionary design from Malcolm Sayer was based on Jaguar’s Le Mans winning D-Type racing car and combined beauty, high performance, and competitive pricing. This new model featured disc brakes, rack and pinion steering and independent front and rear suspension. The overall package created one of the most famous cars of all time and spurred industry wide changes. This stunning UK supplied right hand drive Series I Coupé was registered in March 1962 and is one of the first 250 E-Types produced. The car presents beautifully in Old English White and its authentic bucket seats are trimmed in contrasting black leather and are complemented by an aluminium dashboard. This exceptional, low mileage, Moss gearbox, example benefitted from a photographic restoration in 2000 and has enjoyed a no expense spared ownership since with recent works including a stainless steel exhaust, new windscreen, new doors, new rear arches and the fitment of floor panels where required and a bare metal respray. Following a restoration in 2000, this Series I has covered less than 3000 miles, and never in the rain! The shut lines are good and the underside of the car is clean. During the five year tenure of our vendor this rare Jaguar has covered less than 150 miles. The low mileage appears to be confirmed by the comprehensive MoT history. It could be said that it has been enjoyed more as a piece of art than a car but that puts it in good company as there is a Series I on display in the New York Museum of Modern Art. Regardless of the recent low usage, OJC 433 has been fully maintained annually by renowned Jaguar specialist, Alan Collins and despite its exempt status will have a fresh MoT test certificate. The history file for this wonderful car is as you would expect and contains various bills and receipts, a V5C registration document, the original owner’s manuals and sales brochure, a service manual, Heritage Certificate and the original and rare paperwork wallets. The accessories list is as impressive and includes a Shelly Jack, a toolkit, a spare wheel and wheel removal tools. Housed in a dehumidified garage under a bespoke car cover, this is one of the best examples we have offered. With an insurance value of £150,000 we also think that the estimate is as attractive as the car. Interested parties should satisfy themselves as to the description and condition of each lot prior to the sale. Accordingly, buyers are on notice that each vehicle is offered ‘as is/as seen’ subject to the Terms and Conditions for the auction. 1994 Ferrari 348 Spider Transmission: manualMileage:58606The Ferrari 348 was a mid-engined, rear wheel drive V8 powered two-seater replacing the 328 in 1989 and continuing until 1995. Badged 348 TB for the coupé (Berlinetta) and 348 TS (Spider) for the targa versions, it features a naturally aspirated 3.4 litre version of the quad-cam, four valve per cylinder engine which was originally found in the 288GTO. As with its predecessors, the model number was derived from this configuration with the first two digits being the displacement and the third being the number of cylinders. The engine, which produced 300bhp, was mounted longitudinally and coupled to a transverse manual gearbox similar to the Mondial T with which the 348 shared many components. The 'T' in the model name TB and TS refers to the transverse position of the gearbox. The 348 was equipped with a dry-sump oil system to prevent oil starvation at high speeds and during hard cornering. The oil level can only be accurately checked on the dip-stick when the motor is running due to this setup. The 348 was also fitted with adjustable ride height suspension and a removable rear subframe to speed up the removal of the engine for maintenance. One of only 68 righthand drive Spiders imported to the UK, this beautiful yellow with black leather example has benefitted from a major service in November 2019 including the all important cam-belts. At the same time the car was fitted with a new windscreen at a cost of nearly £4,000. All bills for the service and windscreen, (£10,000 over the past couple of years), are included in the car’s fantastic service history and reveal the thorough going over the car had during that service and that it has been well maintained throughout its life. Indeed, the car fires up on the button and runs beautifully, it’s 3.4 litre V8 sounding fantastic. The hood is in good condition, as is the paint work, overall presenting very well.Supplied with a comprehensively stamped service book, service history, V5C registration document, current MoT test certificate valid until June 2022 and private number plate. With only 68 righthand drive Spiders imported to the UK, this striking example of the much underrated Ferrari 348, will no doubt be a much sought after model in years to come.Interested parties should satisfy themselves as to the description and condition of each lot prior to the sale. Accordingly, buyers are on notice that each vehicle is offered ‘as is/as seen’ subject to the Terms and Conditions for the auction. 1955 Cadillac Coupe De Ville Transmission: automaticMileage:73556The Cadillac Series 40-62 was produced by Cadillac from 1940 through 1964. Originally designed to complement the entry level Series 65, it became the Cadillac Series 6200 in 1959, and remained that until it was renamed to Cadillac Calais for the 1965 model year. The Series 62 included a lower sleeker body, a new cellular grille insert and inverted gullwing front bumpers and tapered Dagmar style bumper guards. Round jet style dual exhaust outlets were incorporated into the vertical bumper extensions and the rear bumper was entirely redesigned. The Series 62 could be distinguished by the lack of rear fender louvers.Automatic windscreen washers, power steering, 12-Volt electrical system and aluminium alloy pistons made the long list of standard equipment for the first time. Power steering, windows, seats, and automatic headlight dimming were optional. In 1955, the grille was redesigned with wider spaces between the blades and the parking lamps were repositioned directly below the headlights. The Coupe de Ville had a golden script nameplate at the upper body belt just forward of the rear window pillar. Tubeless tires were a new standard Cadillac feature and sales reached a record 118,190, accounting for nearly 84% of all Cadillac's sold. Standard equipment included back-up lights, turn signals and automatic transmission. Mechanics rated the 0-60 mph time as 17.3 seconds at the time and air conditioning was provided by Frigidaire optionally and consisted of a self-contained unit that was retrofitted at the customers request.Presented in Champagne over Silver gunmetal, this well-known and respected Cadillac Coupe De Ville has been owned and loved by its current owner since 2012, it is published in American Car magazine that our owner even re-mortgaged her house in order to purchase this example! Nicknamed ‘King’ (Elvis too had a 1955 Coupe De Ville), to say this is a cherished example would be somewhat of an understatement with our owner and the car frequenting many a car shows together and on occasion winning best in show. In 2014 it was decided ‘King’ required some engine work and thus our vendor researched long and hard and after numerous recommendations settled upon Kevin of Zodiac Motor Services, the work as it turned out was obviously very good as the pair have since married and have enjoyed car shows together! As a side note our vendor never had to pay for the full engine rebuild but it is documented in the history file alongside the story of the purchase within the four page feature in American Car magazine. Also found within the history file are the original manuals and a photo book of the body restoration alongside the UK V5C registration document. It must be stressed that many 50’s Cadillacs lack the credentials to lace the boots of TSY 305 and we feel this estimate is very good value for such an iconic car in great all-round condition and especially with the assurance of a relatively recent full engine rebuild.Interested parties should satisfy themselves as to the description and condition of each lot prior to the sale. 1997 Mercedes-Benz E220 Cabriolet Transmission: automaticMileage:60704Mercedes-Benz introduced the 'E-Class' to the market in 1985 with the cabriolet version available from 1991. Much of the W124's engineering and many of its features were advanced automotive technology incorporating innovations that have been adopted throughout the industry. It had one of the lowest drag coefficients of any vehicle at the time, due to its aerodynamic body, which included plastic moulding for the undercarriage to streamline airflow beneath the car, reducing fuel consumption and wind noise. It had a single windscreen wiper that had an eccentric mechanism at its base, extending the wiper's reach to the top corners of the windscreen. The coupés and convertibles had optional rear headrests that would fold down remotely to improve rearward visibility when required.Originally registered on 1st June 1997, this E220 Cabriolet has been very well maintained by the fastidious vendor and, as such, presents in very good order throughout. The paintwork shows little sign of age and the leather trim and black hood are presented well. The vendor reports that this Mercedes drives very well with no known faults and has always been stored in a clean dry garage during his tenure. The Mercedes is supplied with a V5C registration document, old MoT test certificates, a Mercedes service booklet with a continuous service record, maintenance invoices, and an MoT test certificate valid until February 2022. Showing a mere 60,704 miles on the odometer, this five owner from new, low mileage example is not to be missed and is supplied with recently reconditioned air conditioning, four heated seats, and rear parking sensors. These W124’s are exceedingly well built and are very universal, offering reliable everyday motoring if required or roof down open top cruising on a hot summers day.Interested parties should satisfy themselves as to the description and condition of each lot prior to the sale. 1986 Porsche 911 Carrera 3.2-Litre Supersport TargaRegistration no. C740 KARChassis no. WP0ZZZ91ZGS140939•One of only 15 'C16', UK-supplied cars with M491 Supersport Equipment•Owned by the present (second) owner since 2006•30,673 miles recorded•Outstandingly originalFootnotes:Development of the Porsche 911 Targa proceeded in line with that of its closed coupé cousin, the most notable advances immediately prior to the manufacture of this 1986 model having included the introduction of the 3.2-litre engine for 1984. Although it remained an air-cooled 'flat six', the '3.2' was 80% new and incorporated an effective cam chain tensioner and associated lubrication system that at last addressed a perennial 911 shortcoming. With 230bhp on tap, the new 'boxer' motor endowed the Carrera with a stunning level of performance, the bald statistics being a 0-60mph time of 5.3 seconds and a top speed of 152mph. Although it enjoyed a 52 horsepower advantage, the Turbo was only marginally faster, having a top speed of 157mph, while most considered the normally aspirated 911 Carrera easier to drive. For the increasing number of customers that coveted the Turbo's distinctive 'wide body' look but did not need its marginally superior performance, Porsche introduced the SSE package, also known as the Supersport, which could be specified for other models in the 911 range. In addition to the wide body, the SSE (option code M491) included the Turbo's spoilers; suspension; four-piston brake callipers; 16' forged alloy wheels; and low-profile tyres. Only 75 right-hand drive examples were delivered to the UK, of which a mere 15 were Targa models like that offered here. This limited-series Turbo Look 911 was purchased by the current vendor (its second owner) on 26th March 2006 and has been kept garaged at all times. The car retains all its original sales paperwork from Lancaster Porsche listing the factory-fitted options: limited-slip differential; graduated top-tint windscreen; Pearl White piping, etc. It was displayed at Porsche Colchester at the launch of the Type 997 Targa and comes with a Certificate of Authenticity from Porsche. The vendor advises us that the car is in its original condition with all stickers and bar codes intact. Although it does not have full service history, all MoT certificates and road tax discs (until they ceased) are present. Currently displaying a total of 30,673 miles on the odometer, this rare limited-series 'Targa-top' Porsche is MoT'd to 4th September 2021 and comes with a V5C document. For further information on this lot please visit Bonhams.com
1962 Lotus Elite CoupéRegistration no. KOO 912Chassis no. EB 1611*Long-term ownership 1981-2015*Four owners from new*Extensive professional restoration in the late 1990s*Fewer than 1,000 miles since restoration*Present ownership since 2015*ZF gearbox and Weber carburettorsFootnotes:This Lotus Elite had been meticulously maintained and enjoyed by the immediately preceding owner for some 34 years when it was purchased by the current (fourth) owner in May 2015. 'KOO 912' had been delivered new in 1962 to a county cricketer, who bought the Elite with his testimonial match takings. Specialist Miles Wilkins refurbished the Lotus while the car was in the hands of its second owner, who sold it in March 1981 to the aforementioned long-term custodian. The latter competed with the Elite at various circuit events such as the HSCC Roadsports championship from 1983 until 1988, achieving several class wins and one outright win at Brands Hatch in June '88. 'KOO 912' is fitted with a highly desirable ZF gearbox and twin Weber carburettors, making it one of the more competitive examples. Subsequently, the car underwent a complete restoration: the bodyshell being restored by Tony Bates in 1995 while the interior was re-upholstered in leather and all trim and carpets replaced. The engine was rebuilt by Tony Mantle of Climax Engine Services at a cost of £4,400, which included replacing the cylinder head. The ZF gearbox was inspected but deemed in good condition, and the clutch plate replaced. Fewer than 1,000 miles had been covered post-rebuild when the Elite was purchased at auction by the current vendor in 2015. At that time the car was said to have been set up on a rolling road, with the carburetion and timing adjusted. Parts listed as renewed during the restoration included the chrome wire wheels, wheel spinners, wiring loom, battery, brake pipes, master cylinders, clutch slave cylinder, brake pads, handbrake cable, petrol tank, fuel lines, fuel gauge, fuel gauge sender, speedometer and rev counter drive cables, throttle cable, hoses and rubbers, suspension bushes, engine mounts, steering column doughnut, window frames, windscreen and rear screen, rubber surrounds and trims, and new gutter trims. Since acquisition the car has been carefully stored at a professional facility and checked over regularly by his own mechanic. While in the vendor's care the car has been repainted black (from Aston Martin Celeste Blue). Offered with a V5C Registration Certificate, this has to be one of the best Elites currently available. For further information on this lot please visit Bonhams.com
1920 Rolls-Royce 40/50hp Silver Ghost Alpine Eagle Skiff TorpedoCoachwork by LabourdetteRegistration no. 4928 DGChassis no. 40FW*First owned by Marcel Boussac*Updated with a Hispano Suiza front axle and servo-assisted brakes*Professionally repainted and re-trimmed in 2011*Offered from a private collection*Exceptionally well maintained and 'on the button'Footnotes:'The directors were obviously as impressed with the car as the public were when they first saw it displayed... the company's future, based upon Royce's intuitive design genius and the uncompromising standards of workmanship he set, clearly lay in the rapidly expanding area of luxury cars...' – Edward Eves, Rolls-Royce, 75 Years of Motoring Excellence.Although the 40/50hp model would in any event have earned its 'The Best Car in the World' sobriquet (actually first used by the Pall Mall Gazette in November 1911), Rolls-Royce's decision to drop all other types only served to focus attention on what would become known as the 'Silver Ghost'. Prior to 1908, when it relocated to a new factory in Derby, the company founded by engineer Frederick Henry Royce and entrepreneur the Honourable Charles Stewart Rolls had manufactured a variety of models at its Manchester premises. Cars with two, three, four and six cylinders were made, and even an abortive V8, before Managing Director Claude Johnson's decision to concentrate on the range-topping 40/50hp. The latter had first appeared at the 1906 London Motor Show and became known as the 'Silver Ghost' the following year when chassis number '60551' was exhibited wearing silver-painted tourer coachwork by Barker & Co.The heart of the Silver Ghost was its magnificent engine, a 7,036cc (later 7,428cc) sidevalve six equipped with seven-bearing crankshaft and pressure lubrication. A sturdy chassis comprised of channel-section side members and tubular cross members was suspended on semi-elliptic springs at the front and a 'platform' leaf spring arrangement at the rear, though the latter soon came in for revision. The transmission too was soon changed: a three-speed gearbox with direct-drive top gear replacing the original four-speed/overdrive top unit in 1909. In the course of its 20-year production life there would be countless other improvements to the car, one of the most important being the adoption of servo-assisted four-wheel brakes towards the end of 1923.After a successful 2,000-mile trial under RAC supervision, the factory demonstrator - chassis '60551', 'The Silver Ghost' - was entered in the 1907 Scottish Reliability Trial, completing the 15,000-mile run with flying colours to set a new World Record. From then on the car's reputation was assured, not the least in North America where the wide-open spaces placed a premium on reliability and comfort. Royce's uncompromising engineering standards demanded only excellence of his staff in Manchester and later Derby, and no chassis was delivered until it had been rigorously tested.Rigorous testing continued to be undertaken publicly too in the interests of promoting sales, the next such enterprise being chief test driver Ernest W Hives' legendary journey in September 1911 from London to Edinburgh using top gear only. Rivals Napier had just completed a similar stunt and Rolls-Royce felt obliged to rise to the challenge. Hives' Silver Ghost averaged a remarkable 24.32 miles per gallon over the 400-mile journey and on its completion was taken to the Brooklands racetrack where it was timed at 78.26mph. That car, chassis '1701', incorporated under-slung cantilever rear springs and an engine upgraded with increased compression ratio and a larger carburettor, while the lightweight sports-tourer 'torpedo' coachwork was by Holmes & Co of Derby. Orders for replica London-to-Edinburgh models poured in.A luxury motor car, the 'Silver Ghost' was not designed with motor sport in mind but that did not deter the more enthusiastic owners. In 1912 Mr James Radley privately entered his 40/50hp in the Austrian Alpine Trial only to find that the three-speed gearbox's limitations prevented him from negotiating the Katschberg Pass. As a result, Rolls-Royce prepared four cars for the 1913 event, equipping them with four-speed transmissions and more powerful engines producing 75bhp (up from 60 horsepower) courtesy of a raised compression ratio and larger carburettor. These changes made for a dramatic improvement and the team cars won six awards, including the prestigious Archduke Leopold Cup. Inspired by this success, the factory began producing cars of the same specification for customers. Officially they were 'Continental' models but are better known by the evocative 'Alpine Eagle' nickname given them by Ernest Hives. The Silver Ghost remained in production in England until 1925, 6,173 being completed at the Manchester and Derby factories, and until 1926 at Rolls-Royce's Springfield plant in the USA where a further 1,703 were made, the longest production run of any model from this celebrated company.Little is known of this Silver Ghost Alpine Eagle's history other than that its first owner was textile manufacturing entrepreneur and racehorse breeder Marcel Boussac, who at that time was regarded as the wealthiest man in France (the Prix Marcel Boussac horserace is still run at Longchamps to this day). It is also worth mentioning that in addition to the Alpine Eagle specification mentioned in the build sheets, the chassis is designated 'high speed'. Boussac had his sporting Silver Ghost bodied by Labourdette, one of the oldest of Parisian master coachbuilders, and the result, with its dual cowl and long doors, is undeniably very elegant. Other notable features include a top-opening windscreen; rear Auster screen; Lucas 'King of the Road' headlights; scuttle-mounted sidelights; and Toby diver's lamps at the rear – all recently re-plated in nickel.West Hoathly Garage repainted the 'Ghost in 2011 to a very high standard while the interior was beautifully re-trimmed at the same time, featuring deep-buttoned light grey leather upholstery; a wooden dashboard; and blue carpets. Front and rear tonneau covers are present also. Sensible upgrades include a Hispano Suiza front axle; servo assisted brakes; Smiths 0-80mph speedometer; Smiths 8-day trip clock; electric fuel pumps; and a fuel gauge concealed within the glove compartment.Part of a private collection, exceptionally well maintained and 'on the button', this most elegant Rolls-Royce is ideal for 20 Ghost Tours and many other prestigious historic motoring events. For further information on this lot please visit Bonhams.com
