French & Saunders - a unique original BBC production screen used prop puppet from the 2002 French And Saunders BBC Special, in which they parody Lord Of The Rings. The prop puppet can be seen in many scenes - usually as a comic stand-in for Dawn French when shooting from low-angles. The puppet comes scratch made, with head and limbs made from latex and a wooden body. Custom made clothes are fitted to the puppet. Fully articulated limbs. Generally very good condition, with some production use. Measures approx; 50cm tall. Provenance: obtained by the vendor from a charity auction, the puppet comes with a note from Dawn French which reads ' This is a prop we used in the Easter '02 special during 'Lord Of The Rings' parody ' and is accompanied by a signed photograph.

A small ancient Greek style terracotta doll or puppet, the torso and head in one piece with moulded elaborate hair or headdress, rolled around her forehead and rising to a bun at the top of her head, moulded breasts, simple limbs attached by string to her shoulders and hips, mounted in a wooden frame —5½in. (14cm.) high (one leg broken and glued, limbs possibly more recent replacements) - this figure was bought as a 3000 year old Greek antiquity, in our opinion it is a genuine object, but we are selling this in the style of and we suggest any potential bidders does their own research

THREE SHADOW PUPPETS, DECCAN, INDIA, 19TH CENTURY painted, cut and pierced vellum, one with remaining split bamboo handle, each depicting forms of Vishnu, one seated with his consort, inscriptions in kannada 73 x 50cm approx. each Provenance: Private collection, Northern England For a closely related puppet in the Museum of Folk and Tribal Art, Gurgaon, near Delhi, see Subhashini Aryan, Unknown Masterpieces of Indian Folk and Tribal Art, Gurgaon 2005, p. 83, no. 152. The style of the imagery, the figures with distinctive bulging eyes, is closely related to the 'Paithan' type of painting, several examples of which can been seen in the Victoria and Albert Museum (inv. nos. IS.18-29. 1991). It is now believed that these paintings were in fact produced in several centres further south, something underlined by the kannada inscriptions.
