A rare original stage or television production used Sooty hand puppet, 1950-60s, with golden mohair, orange and black glass eyes, black stitched nose and mouth, black mohair ears, rexine pads with glue residue, extended long skirt to hide wrist and small strip of broad elastic tape –13½in. (34cm.) high (some slight wear and thinning, head mohair matted) Although it is believed that there have been over 1000 production Sooty glove puppets, it’s rare to get one so early, certainly used by Harry Corbett. Sooty was badly behaved and kept getting messy, so had to be replaced every few shows and was often then given to someone who worked along side Harry. Sadly the history of this example is not known, but he came from the south coast of England where Sooty appeared at many shows in the coastal resorts there
