FRANK PATON, 1855 - 1909, A PAIR OF SPORTING PRINTS AND SEPIA ENGRAVINGS 'They Won't Be Happy Till They Get Em', two dogs starting at an empty food bowl, surrounded by characters in a wide margin, together with 'Three to One on the Field', with a scene of three dogs surrounded by a hand puppet of the character 'Punch', both signed in margins and bearing gallery label verso 'Leggatt Brothers, Cornhill, Cheapside', both glazed and held in oak frames. (approx 36cm x 31cm)

Sir Alexander) Cabool: being a Personal Narrative of a Journey to, and Residence in that City in the years 1836, 7, and 8, first edition, engraved portrait, 11 plates, most lithographed, 2 folding, 7 tinted, erratum leaf and 8pp. publisher's catalogue at end, some light foxing, original green cloth, rubbed and lightly damp-stained, recased, 8vo, 1842. ⁂ In 1836 Burnes was sent on a political mission to Dost Mohammed in Kabul and as a result advised the British to support Dost Mohammed's claim to the throne. The British instead reinstated the puppet ruler Shah Shuja which angered Dost Mohammed and caused him to turn to the Russians. Burnes returned to Kabul as political agent in 1839 and was murdered there by an Afghan mob in 1841, leading to the disastrous First Afghan War.

A doll playing a glockenspiel, man driving a beetle shaped car, 2 modern robots, plus a 1970’s plastic Treasure Island bagatelle, a Pelham Puppet of an American style banjo player, Sunny Jim ‘Force Wheat Flakes’, a head and torso figure of an African boxing figure and a 1960’s Easter egg. A WOODEN PUPPET THEATRE, of German manufacture, circa 1950's / 1960's, complete with curtains and backdrop, height approximately 124cm, width approximately 78.5cm, some minor wear and damage, with a collection of glove puppets, majority have vinyl heads and cloth bodies / clothes and are of similar vintage to the theatre, to include Perky (but not Pinky), Pinnochio, the Devil, a priest, a wolf, wizard, witch, clown, soldiers, Goofy, King and Mr Punch, majority have no makers marks, but does include a Deans Chimp and a German made wizard
An interesting collection of Indonesian and other artefacts, including a wooden puppet head, a bamboo pipe with applied figure of an old man with cabochons, a stoneware Aztec pipe, a carved Indonesian pipe, a kukri knife, a carved sectional bone totem artefact with figures and cord bindings, probably African, another carved bone figure, probably African, and a most unusual head in green igneous rock. Also three leaves, probably from a Buddhist kammavaca and an oil on board alpine scene. (10)
