ELEVEN BLACK AND WHITE FRAMED PRINTS OF BALLOONING INTEREST 20TH CENTURY, AFTER 18TH AND 19TH depicting various views of balloons in flight, including examples such as 'Globe Aerostatique, Dedie Monsieur Charles', 'An Exact Representation of Mr. Lunardi's New Balloon', 'Royal Vauxhall Balloon Crossing the Rhine Near Coblentz', TOGETHER WITH a print entitled 'The Aerostat, worked by manual power, Invented by W.Miller, M.R.C.S'(all approximately 38cm x 40cm (15in x 15.75in))Provenance: Property from Kilmany House, Fife
Architectural: John Cheere: A rare lead figure of a fruit seller, mid 18th century, on later stone base and on stoneware pedestal, the figure 130cm high, the pedestal 63cm high; 193cm high overallJohn Cheere was first in partnership with his brother Sir Henry Cheere, but took over John Nost’s yard and his moulds for lead figures in about 1739.Until his death in 1787 he was the leading producer of lead statuary as well as working in plaster. Contemporary accounts of his yard, which was situated on Hyde Park Corner indicate that his oeuvre was very varied and included rustic figures as well as classical statues and busts from antiquity., During the 18th century, masked balls or fete champetres set in Arcadian settings of country houses or in London’s Ranelagh and Vauxhall pleasure gardens, were immensely popular. These were attended by fashionable society dressed as milkmaids, fruit and flower girls or in the costume of the commedia dell’arte. This fascination with Arcadia was reflected in many art forms - for instance porcelain figures, but also in lead statuary in which numerous models were produced. Unlike porcelain however, the depredations of the weather and the intrinsic value of the material have resulted in very few period lead figures from the 18th century surviving.

1985 Ford Escort XR3i Transmission: manual Mileage: 34599Launched in March 1986, with only a small number of changes over its predecessor, optional new features included a mechanical anti-lock braking system (standard on RS Turbo models), a fuel computer on fuel-injected models and a heated windscreen. These changes were welcome at a time when the Escort was faced with a host of new competitors; General Motors had brought out a new version of the Vauxhall Astra 18 months earlier, shortly after Volkswagen had introduced the Mk. II Golf. As well as an all-new interior, a new derivative of the CVH engine was introduced, as well as numerous suspension tweaks to address the long-standing criticisms of the Escort's handling and ride quality.Originally registered on 1st August 1985 this XR3i is finished in red with grey velour interior. The coachwork is in good order and shows no sign of corrosion. The engine burst into life when requested and we are advised she drives with no known faults. With only two former keepers, the current registered keeper has owned her since March 2008, clearly this has been a well-cared for example throughout its life. The mileage of 34,599 is thought to be correct although not warranted, the condition is certainly commensurate with such a low mileage example. Sitting proud, sounding great and looking superb, this Escort XR3i is supplied with a V5C registration document, a full year’s MoT test certificate, together with some invoices, this is an opportunity to purchase one of Dagenham’s finest models. Interested parties should note that the dashboard on this vehicle has some sun damaged and will require replacing.Interested parties should satisfy themselves as to the description and condition of each lot prior to the sale. Accordingly, buyers are on notice that each vehicle is offered ‘as is/as seen’ subject to the Terms and Conditions for the auction. Buyers are advised to inspect the vehicle in person or use a professional to carry out this service. Historics will not entertain disputes over descriptions.
1966 Ford Cortina Mk. I Crayford Convertible (1500cc) Transmission: manual Mileage: 81760In response to the huge success of the Mini, Ford responded not with a small car but with a larger family offering which they could sell in large numbers. The result was the Cortina; a distinctively styled, mass-market compact car aimed at buyers of the Morris Oxford and Vauxhall Victor. It launched on 20th September 1962 and sold extremely well. It was produced in five generations (Mk. I through to Mk. V) although officially the last one was called the Cortina 80. With variants of the Cortina reaching sales of over one million and each successive model proving more popular than its predecessor, such was its fame in the UK that the BBC Two documentary series Arena once devoted an entire programme to the car and its enthusiasts. With eye-catching modern styling, it was originally branded as the Consul Cortina until a modest facelift in 1964, after which it was sold simply as the Cortina but with four trim levels; Standard, Deluxe, Super and GT.Originally registered on 10th May 1966, this stylish Ford is one of approximately 50 Cortinas converted by Crayford into a convertible. The lines of the Mk. I lends itself to being a convertible and this example, with its blue coachwork and hood together with the contrasting red interior, is certainly aesthetically pleasing. The car fell into disrepair in the late 80’s and was sold in 1988 for £1,000 as a restoration project to Mr Paul Brench from Wiltshire who set about restoring the car. Presenting now in delightful condition, the interior benefits from having the additional dials from a GT and a remote gear lever. Supplied with a V5C registration document, this Cortina Mk. I Crayford is very rare and will certainly turn heads wherever she appears.Interested parties should satisfy themselves as to the description and condition of each lot prior to the sale. Accordingly, buyers are on notice that each vehicle is offered ‘as is/as seen’ subject to the Terms and Conditions for the auction. Buyers are advised to inspect the vehicle in person or use a professional to carry out this service. Historics will not entertain disputes over descriptions.
