The lid is slightly loose in the hinge but closes well and sits well. The bottom insulator to the handle appears deficient. The handle is firm in the sockets, however. In generally very good condition commensurate with age. Of great quality.

A mixed lot of six: 1. a 19th century rosewood and mother of pearl inlaid jewellery box; 2. a late 19th century stained-wood box with strap hinges; 3. an early 20th century walnut box lined with silk; 4. a cased set of six Edwardian hallmarked silver coffee spoons (Birmingham 1903); 5. an early 20th century silver-mounted and green-enamel dressing-table set (hand-held mirror, hairbrush and clothes brush) (damage); 6. a set of building bricks (possibly 1930s).
A brass-framed wall-hanging looking glass in late 17th century style (probably 19th or early 20th century): the pediment decorated in relief with a central stylised scallop-shell at the top and C-scrolls, flowerheads and foliate scrolling; central rectangular hand-bevelled mirror-plate (distressed); four angular mirrored borders. (59.5 high x 35.25 cm wide)
An 18th century walnut writing bureau: the crossbanded slanted fall opening to reveal a fitted interior with central panelled cupboard door flanked by two 'secret' reeded and fluted slides, six varying sized drawers and two pigeonholes with carved tops; four full-width graduated drawers with cast swan-neck-style handles; raised on bracket feet. (LWH 101 x 53 x 104.5 cm) It is noted that it appears to be a nice colour. On close inspection and being super critical the right-hand side of the fall is just shy of the main body, so very slightly warped. The whole piece has been restored at some stage and been repolished. There are water marks and other scratches on the top, and there is a small fillet approx. I inch x 2 or 3 inches to the left-hand side on the top. The sides appear OK; there are some scratches to the right-hand side and the veneer is slightly away; knocks commensurate with age. It is noted that there are two ‘mirror’ pieces of rectangular mahogany veneer on the sloping fall and the left-hand veneer appears to have an old historic crack mostly running along the grain that has been filled; there is also a small triangular piece away from the lower-left section that looks like it has been replaced at some stage. Both lopers exhibit cock beading away with the left-hand loper being more prevalent. The fall has some historic veneer cracks that have been filled in over the years. The fall opens to reveal a fairly straightforward interior with the panelled cupboard door flanked by two ‘secret’ fluted columns, pigeonholes and further drawers. The drawers have scratches and scuffs commensurate with age and usage and so do the feet.
A good early 20th century satin maple dressing-table of large and impressive proportions: the central mirror with dentil cornice and fine foliate carving flanked by angular shelves above two small drawers, the lower section with nine drawers, raised on bracket-style feet with recessed brass castors (LWH 122 x 61 x 183 cm).
Seven editions of The Daily Mirror (1912-1914) to include four with Titanic leads: 1912 April 16, 17, 18 and 19 - 'Disaster to the Titanic', 'Titanic Victims', 'Fate of the Titanic's Crew' and 'Only 20 Lifeboats for 2,207 People'; 1913 May 21 - 'Scott's Sepulchre Erected'; 1914 July 4 - 'Joseph Chamberlain Passes Away'; 1914 July 7 - 'The Funeral of Joseph Chamberlain'.
