Of typical urn form, circular and with reeded borders, atop a square base raised on four feet, the body with twin handles featuring acanthus decoration, with concave, domed lid surmounted by urn finial. TERESA MOTHER: (1910-1997) Albanian Roman Catholic Nun, Nobel Peace Prize winner, 1979. T.L.S., M Teresa MC, one page, slim oblong 8vo, Calcutta, n.d., to Mr. Graham Thomas and Students. Mother Teresa writes a letter of religious content, in part, 'God loves you and wants you to share this love with all those around you. Be an angel of comfort to the sick, a friend to the little ones and love each other as God loves each one of you with a special, most intense love.' To the verso appears a printed image of Mother Teresa in a head and shoulders pose with a young child in her arms and with printed text from Isaiah to the right border. VG

Greene informs his correspondent, in full, 'You must excuse me this time. I simply am too busy even to think up names. Forgive me.' With light creasing to the upper right corner, otherwise VG Neville Braybrooke (1923-2001) English Poet, Writer, Editor, Literary Critic and Publisher. Son of Patrick Braybrooke (1894-1956) English Literary Critic.
GREENE GRAHAM: (1904-1991) English Novelist. Brief T.L.S., Graham Greene, one page, 8vo, La Residence des Fleurs, Antibes, 7th November 1989, to Neville Braybrooke. Greene informs his correspondent, in full, 'I am afraid you have got my confession a little wrong! Eldest brother not uncle. An uncle might very well be a famous cricketer but not an eldest brother.' VG Neville Braybrooke (1923-2001) English Poet, Writer, Editor, Literary Critic and Publisher. Son of Patrick Braybrooke (1894-1956) English Literary Critic.
DU MAURIER DAPHNE: (1907-1989) British Author. D.S., Daphne du Maurier, at the conclusion, and also signed with her initials ('D du M') a further four times at the foot of each page, five pages, 4to, n.p., 19th February 1976. The partially printed document, completed in typescript, is a Memorandum of Agreement between Du Maurier (named as Lady Browning, in care of her literary agents Curtis Brown) and the publishers Victor Gollancz Ltd. of London and relates to a work entitled Short Stories, the selection comprising Don't Look Now, The Apple Tree, The Pool, The Blue Lenses, Kiss Me Again Stranger, The Chamois, Not After Midnight and The Birds (a further title, The Old Man, has been crossed through). Du Maurier agrees to receive a royalty payment of 15% of the published price on all hardback edition copies sold in the home market up to 10,000 and 17.5% on all copies sold thereafter, with further percentages agreed for different editions of the book, and with a final additional clause in which Du Maurier confirms that the work does not violate any existing copyright and does not contain anything objectionable or libelous and that all statements purporting to be facts are truthful and accurate. With two typed letters pinned to the front page of the document, one signed on behalf of Graham Weston of Curtis Brown to John Bush of Victor Gollancz Ltd., dated 28th January 1977 and stating, in part, 'Rather dottily I did not spot, nor I think did you, that in the recent du Maurier contract for Echoes from the Macabre the usual anthology clause was not extracted from the contract. As you know this is normally the case…I wonder whether you could therefore kindly make the necessary alteration to the document in your keeping.' Accompanied by the original envelope. Scarce in this form. VG The present contract relates to Echoes of the Macabre: Short Stories, an anthology of earlier works by Du Maurier which was published by Gollancz in England in 1976 and by Doubleday in America the following year. The collection featured all nine titles detailed in the contract, including that of the deleted The Old Man.
KELLY GRACE: (1929-1982) American Actress, Academy Award winner. Later Princess of Monaco. T.L.S., Grace de Monaco, one page, 4to, n.p., 26th September 1967, to Miss Rubye Graham, on her personal monogrammed stationery. Kelly thanks her correspondent for their letter and invitation to the Crystal Ball, continuing, 'Unfortunately, it will be impossible for me to arrange to be in Philadelphia at that time… We always remember with great pleasure having been your guests at the beautiful ball held in the Art Museum. It was an outstanding evening and will long be one of our treasured memories…' VG
GREENE GRAHAM: (1904-1991) English Novelist. A good A.L.S., Graham Greene, one page, 8vo, Avenue Pasteur, Antibes, 5th August n.y. (c.1967), to [Neville] Braybrooke. Greene writes, in full, 'I don't know the answer. I introduced Evelyn [Waugh] to The Good Soldier some ten years ago - & he may have gone on from there. Laura would know'. Together with Frances Donaldson (1907-1994) Baroness Donaldson of Kingsbridge. British Writer and Biographer whose works included biographies of Evelyn Waugh and P. G. Wodehouse. T.L.S., Frances Donaldson, two pages, oblong 8vo, Bletchley, Buckinghamshire, 12th August 1967, to [Neville] Braybrooke. Donaldson informs her correspondent that 'One day fairly early in our friendship - that is before the trilogy - Evelyn [Waugh] came back from London with The Good Soldier. He said that he had been in I think a bookshop but possibly a library with Graham Greene, and that Graham had pointed to this book and said: 'That is the best [or one of the best] novels ever written'. Evelyn also thought it very good and lent it to us. This incident was of course long after Rossetti, in about the early fifties' and concludes by remarking 'I then went on to read the trilogy but I don't know whether Evelyn did, although I should think it certain'. An interesting pair of letters for their references to Evelyn Waugh. Son of Patrick Braybrooke (1894-1956) English Literary Critic. Evelyn Waugh (1903-1966) English Novelist and Writer. Waugh's second wife was Laura Herbert, who is also referred to in Greene's letter. The Good Soldier: A Tale of Passion is a novel by Ford Madox Ford which was published in 1915. Set just ahead of World War I the book chronicles the tragedy of the soldier Edward Ashburnham. In 2015 the BBC ranked The Good Soldier thirteenth on its list of the 100 greatest British novels. Waugh himself wrote a trilogy loosely based on his experiences in World War II, known as the Sword of Honour trilogy and comprising Men at Arms (1952), Officers and Gentlemen (1955) and Unconditional Surrender (1961).
