Super Seven 1800cc De-Dion kitWell specifiedExcellent conditionCaterham Cars is a manufacturer of specialist lightweight sports cars and is a direct evolution of the Series III Lotus Seven designed by Colin Chapman originally launched in 1973. Caterham had been a major Lotus Seven dealer during the 1960's and its founder, Graham Nearn, purchased the rights to continue manufacture of the Seven design after Lotus announced its intention to discontinue the model. The Lotus/Caterham Seven is widely regarded by car enthusiasts and the media as one of the most precise handling sports cars ever, with 2007 marking the 50th year of continuous production. As with its Lotus Seven predecessor, Caterhams are constructed of aluminium sheet attached to a tubular steel chassis and all are front engined with rear-wheel drive and two seats. Their extremely high performance is achieved through being lightweight and well balanced rather than from having particularly powerful engines.Ordered in kit form in August 1999, the buyer, Mr. Ian Forshew took delivery of the car soon after, at his home in Dorking. The build of the car was completed and was on the road by March of the following year. Ordered without compromise, it was specified with the more expensive De-Dion rear suspension and 1800cc K-Series Rover engine mated to a five-speed gearbox. Other extras include; FIA rollbar, battery master switch, four-point harness seatbelts, aero filler cap, immobiliser, quick release Momo steering wheel leather adjustable seats and weather equipment. Having been part of not one, but two large collections in recent years, the car is now for sale due to a lack of use. The vendor reports the car to run and drive very well providing “smiles for miles” with its punchy 1800cc engine and famously good handling.Supplied with its V5 registration document, MoT test certificate which expires in May 2025 and an impressive history file. Always popular and offering unrivalled’ bang for your buck’, the Caterham Seven still embarrasses much more expensive machinery both on the road and track. Build in excess of £100,000280bhp 3.8 litre engine with limited slip differentialGumball 3000 rally entrantEngine rebuild circa 200 miles agoThe Coombs Jaguar is a modified version of the Jaguar Mk. II 3.8 litre that was prepared for racing in the 1960s by the Coombs race team. The Coombs Jaguar was known for its performance, handling, and braking, and was driven by notable drivers including Graham Hill and Roy Salvadori. Essentially, the Coombs conversion for road cars consisted of an uprated engine matched by steering and suspension modifications, but the company offered a plethora of options from which customers could choose. They included an additional fuel tank, a wood-rim steering wheel and a chrome plated boot rack. Coombs would also modify the rear wheel arches, removing the spats and making up rolled edges to match the profile of the front wheel arches. The primary objective of this was to improve access for wheel changing during motorsport events, but the modification improved the appearance of the car so much that it is surprising Jaguar themselves did not adopt the modification for production cars. Not all the Coombs cars had the same state of tune, but the typical engine had 9:1 compression pistons, a lightened flywheel and a different carburettor air-intake system. The whole bottom-end assembly would be balanced and the cylinder head would be gas-flowed. A number of Coombs-style cars feature a louvred bonnet but this was not an advertised option in the early days. This stunning Coombs evocation was purchased by our vendor in 2005 as a standard manual 3.4 litre Mk. II. A two-owner car at the time, it was first registered on 7th May 1969. Our vendor ran the car and enjoyed it for some time, in 2011 the decision however was taken to fully restore and uprate the car to a fast road, ‘Coombs Evocation’ with no stone unturned, a project that spanned three years completing in 2014. The cost of the build was well into six figures and when completed the quality, comfort and ability of the car enabled our vendor to take the car on the Gumball 3000 rally, stretching its legs amongst modern Lamborghinis, Ferraris and the world’s top supercars, rubbing shoulders with celebrities on the way.The build for HOO 429B started with a chemical dipped bodyshell prior to any repairs, then a second chemical dip before an ‘E Cote’ was carried out on the completed bodyshell. The engine compartment and inner wings were modified to accommodate the additional required equipment and the 3.4 litre engine was raised to 3.8 litres. Specially designed performance camshafts were made and added to component upgrades with Triple SU carburettors during the rebuild providing 280bhp at the flywheel and 315 lbft of torque at 4600rpm fed by twin fuel tanks with two position Monza filling caps. The engine is mated to a five speed fully re-built ‘Supra’ gearbox and bespoke prop shaft with limited slip differential. The suspension was poly bushed and powder coated and sits on classic Koni race shock absorbers behind the Borrani wire wheels and three eared Borrani spinners. A stainless-steel exhaust manifold is mated to a bespoke stainless-steel exhaust system and stopping is courtesy of up-rated Coopercraft brakes with dual action servo while cooling via an aluminium radiator and Kenlowe electric cooling fan. Other necessary mechanical upgrades include an up-rated alternator bespoke pedal box with brake balance bar, power steering, oil cooler and bespoke handbrake system. The car received full bespoke re-wiring before the inside of the car was subject to a raft of upgrades including, upgraded wiper system, electric central locking, electric windows front and rear, twin air conditioning systems to maximise ‘in car’ cooling, Sundym glass throughout with heated front and rear windscreen and self-dimming rear view mirror. The entire car benefited from a Dynamat sound proofing, Inertia seatbelts were fitted to all seats and a special under rear seat battery box housing a high technology race battery. The car has a high-end sound system, DVD entertainment, safety and security ‘tracker’ system and a raft of addition convenience lights fitted to the front footwell compartments, under the boot and bonnet, kerb/sill lights on the lower edge of all four doors along with modern door open lights fitted to opening face/edge on all four doors.Of course, this is all in a cabin finished with European Walnut trim throughout and full leather upholstery with uprated non-Mk. II Jaguar, bespoke trimmed front seats fitted with electric assist motors, seat heaters and Jaguar bespoke trimmed heated rear seats. Looking down the nose of the Coombes style aluminium bonnet and with the necessary wheel spats and Mk. II chromework, this is a stunning example. The shut lines are fantastic and unlike any Mk. II our consignor has seen, the doors shut with an almost Germanic thud rather than a typical Mk. II clang!Having completed the Gumball rally in 2014 and enjoyed the Mk. II, our vendor has more recently had the engine fully rebuilt with the run in process complete but barely a few hundred miles covered since. Being part of a larger collection it has been used sparingly since its 2014 exploits and warm garaged when not used. One of, if not the most comprehensive upgraded builds we have had the pleasure to offer, this example is sure to be very popular with both Jaguar enthusiasts but also those looking for something very special. A build over £100,000, a 280bhp 3.8litre engine recently rebuilt and having in 2014 completed one of the world’s most iconic modern driving events, where will you take it next! • One of 149 right hand drive examples• Ferrari Classiche certified• Highly original and matching numbers example One of the most talked about releases at 1968 Paris Motor Show was Ferrari's brand new Berlinetta. It was expected to be called Daytona to celebrate Ferrari's 1-2-3 finish in the 1967 Daytona 24 Hours race. At the launch however the press was proven wrong as it was just dubbed 365 GTB/4 but the name stuck and to this day it is still referred to as the 'Daytona'. Ironically, it was intended to be called Daytona - but when the name leaked out prematurely Ferrari reverted to using the traditional system. Pininfarina's Leonardo Fioravanti, later the famed Carrozzeria' director of research and development, was responsible for the influential shark-nosed styling, creating a package that reinstated the traditional 'long bonnet, small cabin, short tail' look in a manner suggesting muscular horsepower while retaining all the elegance associated with the Italian coachbuilder's work for Maranello. One of Pininfarina's countless masterpieces, the influential shark-nosed body style featured an unusual full-width transparent panel covering the headlamps, though this was replaced by electrically operated pop-up lights to meet US requirements soon after the start of production in the second half of 1969. Fioravanti later revealed that the Daytona was his favourite among the many Ferraris he designed. The engine was based on the 330 unit and featured double overhead camshafts, first seen on a production Ferrari only two years earlier. The oval tube ladder type frame was as traditional as the engine layout. Although the prototype had been styled and built by Pininfarina in Turin, manufacture of the production version was entrusted to Ferrari's subsidiary Scaglietti in Modena. The Daytona's all-alloy, four-cam, V12 engine displaced 4,390cc and produced its maximum output of 352bhp at 7,500rpm, with 318lb/ft of torque available at 5,500 revs. Dry-sump lubrication enabled it to be installed low in the oval-tube frame, while shifting the gearbox to the rear, in the form of a five-speed transaxle, meant 50/50 weight distribution could be achieved. The all-independent wishbone and coil-spring suspension was a recent development, having originated in the preceding 275 GTB. Unlike the contemporary 365 GTC/4, the Daytona was not available with power steering, a feature then deemed inappropriate for a 'real' sportscar. There was, however, servo assistance for the four-wheel ventilated disc brakes.Air conditioning was optional, but elsewhere the Daytona remained uncompromisingly focussed on delivering nothing less than superlative high performance. In 1968 the Daytona was the most expensive production Ferrari ever and, with a top speed in excess of 170mph, was also the world's fastest production car. The Daytona would be manufactured for just four years and not until the arrival of the 456 GT in 1992 would Ferrari build anything like it again. Only 1,300 Berlinetta models and 121 Spyder convertibles had been made when production ceased in 1973.One of only 149 Daytona’s manufactured in right hand drive configuration, chassis number '15381' was ordered from Maranello Concessionaires in January 1972 by Callanders Garage of Glasgow for Mr. Alistair Stewart. The car was delivered complete with toolkit, air conditioning and Voxson Sonar stereo radio/cassette with electric antenna. It was finished in Blu Chiaro Metallizzato with beige Connolly leather interior trim and one of only six UK cars finished in this elegant colour combination. Completed in March 1972 and dispatched from Maranello to the UK, Mr. Stewart took delivery on 25th April 1972 and the Ferrari was first registered as 'KHS 12K'. Additional items supplied and fitted by Maranello Concessionaires included extra side lights, a 'Prancing Horse' on the boot lid, a nose bar, and Lucas spot lamps. Mr. Stewart owned the car for a couple of years before selling it to Mr. Sandford, a Surrey-based motor dealer and owner of Roy Salvadori's former business, Elmbridge Motors. The Ferrari was then offered for sale without success, it was also painted red in an effort to find a buyer, however Mike Sandford decided to keep the car for his own personal use and reregistered it as 'GGT 1N' in 1975. The caring custodian Mike Sandford drove the car sparingly on leisurely jaunts from his home near Petworth to Goodwood and for get-togethers with friends at London's Steering Wheel Club. Having owned the car for more than 30 years and covering fewer than 7,000 miles during that time (as confirmed by a complete set of MoT test certificates) he decided to sell the car and re-registered it as 'NRX 572K'. In early 2006, the car was sold to Graham Horder and treated to a mechanical overhaul by Reeders. In February 2012, the car was purchased by John Mayston-Taylor, former proprietor and MD of Lynx. With a mere 26,862 miles recorded, the car was given a thorough mechanical overhaul and returned to its original colour of Blu Chiaro Metallizzato, while being reregistered as 'OVV 4'. Official Ferrari Classiche Certification was granted in January 2013 and the following September the car returned to Italy for the first time in more than 40 years, participating in the exclusive Italia Classica and running faultlessly throughout the event. A discreet, switchable, electric power steering unit was installed, which we are told transforms the driving experience. In 2016 the car changed hands to our vendor, after being offered for auction at Goodwood. Purchased to fulfil a dream of driving a Ferrari Daytona to Monaco which he duly completed, the car then became part of a private collection in Cheshire. When first purchased, Trevor Farrington Ltd of Cheshire maintained the car and when not in use it is permanently garaged in a heated room. The car has been treated to further regular services and was recently serviced in January of this year. The car is sold complete with V5C registration document, Ferrari Classiche Red Book, its original leather wallet with all books and the original tool roll complete with tools. Copies of original factory correspondence, service and repair invoices, and near every MoT test certificate are included. Currently sitting on chrome wire wheels (the original five star wheels are also sold with the car). With a total mileage of just 31,500 and multiple long-term ownership including nearly a decade with our vendor, the car remains in highly original and unmolested condition, making it very rare among cars of its type today. Benefitting from a recent service and driving superbly, this iconic low-mileage Daytona must be one of the very best examples currently available.
