Near pair of late 19th Century Chinese cinnabar lacquer baluster vases, one decorated with theatrical figures in relief, in a garden with trees and mountains, floral decoration and scrolling clouds, with a flared rim, on a raised circular foot, H.29.2cm, (slight damage to base), and the companion vase, H.29.7cm. A Cinnabar lacquer peach shape box, the lid depicting an immortal riding through a landscape, with geometric design sides, 16 cm wide, 11 cm high, and another octagonal Cinnabar lacquer box depicting a horse carrying a box, with panelled sides depicting, fish, urns, floral sprays and other motifs, on bracket feet, 22 cm wide, 9.5 cm high.Qty: 2The octagonal box has some damage to the edges of the bottom and top sections and at the corners, also some around the feet. I have tried to illustrate any damage with extra images.The peach shaped box has some chips to the inner rim and also two structural cracks to the body, please refer to the extra images for clarification.

TWO CHINESE CINNABAR LACQUER ITEMS, 19/20TH CENTURY. To include a circular box and cover decorated with boy a boy pouring tea for a seated scholar in landscape scene, on a key fret ground base and black lacquer interior; Together with a vase decorated with figures in landscape scene, with blue enamel interior and base. 12.5cm diam and 17cm tall. (2)3cm loss to lacquer at the foot of the box with cracking and loss to areas of black lacquer interior. The vase in good overall condition.

It was through his travels that he was inspired to begin a lifelong relationship with the Minneapolis Institute of Art (Mia), becoming a major sponsor of the institute and facilitating the growth of their Asian art department, which is now one of the best in the country. His generous donations to Mia allowed them to establish a fund for the Deputy Director and Chief Operating Officer, one of the few endowed positions of this type in the museum field. He additionally served as a trustee of the institute, advocating for its operational growth. In its turn, the museum established a gallery named in his honor in recognition for his endowment fund and numerous contributions to their collection. The selections here showcase his talent and breadth of collecting, ranging from ancient statues to 19th-century woodblock prints. Of rectangular form, consisting of three shelves and two drawers, all decorated with hibiscus leaves and peach sprays, the fruit detailed with key-fret and wan symbols within square frames, and floral diapered patterns, all above a black ground of cross hedged lines. The bars with incised lingzhi and kui phoenixes, the foot rim with further kui phoenixes. The two drawers framed by key-fret borders, the interior lacquered in black and with ruyi handles.Provenance: British trade. The cover of rectangular form, the top and the sides carved with different panels, depicting Budai accompanied by two boys and immortals riding mythical animals, including a tiger, an elephant, a Buddhist lion, and a qilin, all amidst pine trees, craggy rockwork, and wispy clouds against a floral diaper ground. The sides of the box and cover finely carved with further key-fret designs as well as large floral blossoms and scrolling foliage. A RARE COLLECTION WITH 40! AGATE BEADSGermany, Idar Oberstein, 17th to 18th century. Consisting of 40 beads of different sizes and shapes, including circular, rhomboid, and square beads. The semi translucent stones of warm cinnabar and creamy orange tones with pale and dark brown bands, shadings, and fingerprints, well-polished and with central drilling showing manual toolmarks. Coming with a gridded recent storage box. Condition: Very good condition with some wear and natural imperfections to the stones. Some beads with fritting along the edges or minor nicks. Provenance: The collection of The Zelnik Istvan Southeast Asian Gold Museum. Institutional art collection in Belgium, acquired from the above.
