Molded, the top of the cover with a coastal or lakeside scene depicting scholars and attendants, all set amongst rocky outcrops and trees receding to the distance. The sides molded with lotus sprays repeated on the sides of the circular box above the foot, all supported on a key-fret bordered foot, the interior and recessed base lacquered black. Incised with an apocryphal six-character Qianlong reign mark to the underside.Condition: Good condition with minor wear, cracks, and minimal losses to the interior and underside. Of octagonal form, the central roundel cast in relief with a horse carrying a bundle of books above crashing waves and below scrolling clouds and a yin yang symbol, surrounded by raised trigrams (bagua), the sides with the Eight Buddhist and Eight Daoist Emblems, all against diapered grounds, the interior lacquered black.Condition: Cracks, some minor losses, small touchups, the box and cover slightly warped.Provenance: British private collection.Weight: 881 gDimensions: Width 22.5 cm
