VICTORIAN INLAID WALNUT GAMES AND WORK TABLE having foliate inlaid and strung top opening to reveal chequer board and backgammon board, frieze drawer below with fitted interior and further sliding well below that, standing on turned baluster supports with turned pole stretcher, outswept legs and ceramic castors. c. 1885. 24.5" x 29" x 16" (62 x 73.5 x 41cm) CONDITION REPORT: A little pale but basically good condition overall. A fine Vizagapatam ivory, horn and sandalwood chess and backgammon board in the form of two books set with chequer board and banded with stylised bands of flowers, the interior with three similarly engraved boxes containing a chess set and pieces for backgammon, the board of which set with ivory and horn sections on a sandalwood ground, 46cm wide/see illustration/Provenance: Plas Gwyn, Anglesey Condition Report: There are scratches to the ivory chess board surface and the whole thing needs a good clean. The book spine ends are a little loose and there is a small chip to one end. The interior is good although there is a small loss to the horn beading near to a hinge. The chess pieces are complete and in good order except one castle which has a small chip to the castellation. There are 32 draught pieces which leave 2 spares for backgammon and the right number for draughts. The 3 inner boxes are in good condition The main hinges have been a little sprung but easily mended. Lock broken.

A 19TH CENTURY IRISH, KILLARNEY FOLDING CHESS AND BACKGAMMON BOARD Inlaid with shamrocks and thistles, together with two cased backgammon sets. (40cm x 38cm) Measurements of Irish board: closed 38 x 20 x 7.7cm, open 38 x 41 x 3.9cm Condition as follows: The whole has some old woodworm damage, some scratches and minor losses throughout. Exterior of case has loss to one 'spine' end, 1cm wide x 3.5cm long. Interior of case has crack alongside one hinge half, extending alongside edge of hinge and either side for 7cm. Also, one flat playing surface of interior has stress crack centrally, coinciding with and running very close to join line. Photos demonstrate report.

(33 x 20.25cm.).
A set of thirty-six Chinese Canton export ivory backgammon counters, Circa 1900 The circular counters, intricately carved in high relief with Manchu figures, amidst landscapes and pavilions, together with two tapered dice shakers similarly decorated with traditional scroll bands and comparable depictions of Manchu figures, comprising eighteen stained counters and eighteen natural counters, within original box, each counter 3.5cm diam. CONDITION REPORT: The set appears to be in very good condition with only four the stained counters and three of the ivory counters showing signs of scratching, wear or splits. Both beakers also appear to be in good condition. Obviously due to the age there will be signs of wear and tear, otherwise good condition
