Wooden basket to underside with drawer. Raised on bladed turned supports with stretcher, carved legs and white ceramic castors. Some wear and minor parts missing. Measures approx; 73cm x 63cm x 40cm.
A Victorian coromandel dome-top games compendium, retailed by Baxter of 16 Cockspur Street, London, having a hinged lid and drop front, opening to reveal a fitted interior with lift-out trays, including ivory and red-stained ivory chess pieces, ebony and boxwood draughts, a cribbage board and counters, dice and dice shakers, bone and slate dominoes, four decks of playing cards (to include one unopened pack of De La Rue & Co Patent Ivory Playing Cards), together with a folding hardwood chess board within the cover, (backgammon board verso), the whole 19.5 cm high x 33.5 cm x 19 cm.Footnote: Provenance: Puchased in the 1980s by a member of the vendor's family, from Lt. Col. Montagu Cleeve (1894-1933), who was a neighbour.Condition report: General wear to the pieces, commensurate with age, with some likely replacement parts. Height of Kings in chess set: 7.5cm. The case with light surface scratches throughout, visible on close inspection. The case and contents would benefit from a light clean.

Together with a matching draughts/backgammon set, in a fitted blue velvet lined mahogany case. Chess king 8.6cm overall height.Condition report: Both white knights ears chipped , white Queen crown has chips, red queens crown slight nibbles, one white draughts piece chipped, general minor wear to rest but basically good order
Fine 19th century Chinese export carved and stained ivory chess/droughts/backgammon pieces, set of 32 pieces decorated with Chinese figures, horses and elephants in lacquer counter box, together with a pair of red and white carved ivory dice shakers (35)Condition report: The box has some losses to the sides, but the top is in good order. The shakers are in good condition with a few tiny losses. The pieces are in good overall condition. One white piece has been reglued and one red piece has a small overpainted loss. Some other tiny nicks commensurate with age and use. Counters and shakers weigh approx 239.2g in total.
Set 19th century Indian or Chinese export red stained and natural carved ivory backgammon or draughts pieces, set of 32 pieces, probably made for the Middle Eastern Market for Turkish draughts or Dama.Condition report: Each piece 29mm diameter, 5mm highsome of the red stained pieces have cracks and wear to borders and to red staining. The white pieces are in better order. Approx 98.8g total weight.
