The very rare single-sheet typescript programme for the Tottenham Hotspur v Arsenal friendly match played at White Hart Lane 26th January 1963, also covering the reserves fixture played earlier in the afternoon; sold together with a scrap book and a NUJ temporary membership card (3). This rare programme was the personal copy of the freelance journalist Mr D J Signy who covered London football matches. The scrapbook in this lot covers his reports for the two matches as printed in the press. The north London Derby had been hastily arranged during the notorious freeze-up in the winter of 1962/63. This makeshift programme was only distributed to journalists covering the day.

Tom Whittaker’s purple & red Football Association 1925 Tour of Australia cap, embroidered F.A., ENGLAND, AUSTRALIA, 1925. This was the first-ever F.A. Tour of Australia and took place between 7th May and 3rd August. England won all 25 matches scoring 138 goals and conceding just 13. However, the tour proved disastrous for Arsenal’s Tom Whittaker who sustained a career-ending injury when he broke a knee cap. Through his injury Whittaker developed an interest in physiotherapy and fitness training which he implemented as first team trainer at Highbury under Herbert Chapman and played a vital role in the successes achieved at Highbury. Whittaker was also a trainer to the England team and became Arsenal manager in 1947. The club won two Championships and a F.A. Cup under his leadership before his untiemely death from a heart attacked in 1956 aged 58.

George Male’s silver-gilt Football Combination League Championship runners-up medal season 1961-62, the reverse inscribed SATURDAY SECTION, RUNNERS-UP, 1961-62, C.G. MALE, in original fitted case. After George Male’s distinguished playing career at Arsenal, he joined the coaching staff at Highbury training the youth and reserve teams before finally retiring in 1975.

**A RARE 40 BORE INDIAN FOUR-SHOT PERCUSSION CARBINE IN THE ENGLISH TASTE, MID-19TH CENTURY with octagonal twist sighted barrels inscribed with a spurious signature on the top rib and with an arsenal inscription on the top right hand barrel, the breeches inlaid with gold lines and with a gold-lined maker's stamp resembling the letters 'H. Nock', engraved case-hardened tang, back-action locks engraved with border ornament, foliage and a spurious signature, engraved case-hardened hammers, the lower hammers sprung and pivoting away from the nipple for firing the upper barrel, figured half-stock (small chips, cracked beneath the lock), chequered grip, engraved steel trigger-guard and butt-plate, and white metal barrel bolt escutcheons (later ramrod) 57cm; 22 3/8in barrels

A rare and historic 9ct. gold commemorative medal for the Daily Telegraph 'Titanic Fund' football match Tottenham Hotspur v Woolwich Arsenal 29th April 1912, the obverse engraved with the initials TH (Tottenham Hotspur), the reverse inscribed TITANIC, 1911-12. The Daily Telegraph 'Titanic Fund' football match was played at The Stadium, Shepherd's Bush, also known as Park Royal, to help raise money for the families of the disaster and ended in a 3-0 victory for Woolwich Arsenal over their neighbours Tottenham Hotspur. The match was organised with remarkable speed occurring just a little over a fortnight after the RMS Titanic struck an iceberg in the waters of the Newfoundland Banks shortly before midnight on Sunday 14th April 1912, resulting in the loss of about 1500 lives. The original recipient of the medal is unknown but it later became the property of the Spurs player William Hawkins (known as Fred by his family) who played at White Hart Lane during the Great War period. After his football career , Hawkins became a bookmaker's runner in the Tottenham and Edmonton area of north London. By family repute he acquired the medal in lieu of a gambling debt from a former Spurs team-mate who played in the Titanic Match.

Herbert Chapman's personalised bound volume of Arsenal programmes for 1925-26 his first season at Highbury, the red cloth covers titled gilt ARSENAL FOOTBALL CLUB LTD., PROGRAMMES, SEASON 1925-6, HERBERT CHAPMAN, ESQ., the volume containing first-team League and Cup, reserve matches plus Northern Nomads v Redhill F.A. Amateur Cup s/f & London Combination v London League Having achieved great success at Huddersfield Town Herbert Chapman was tempted to Highbury by Arsenal Chairman Henry Norris in the summer of 1925. Chapman laid down the foundations for Arsenal to become one of the most formidable teams in English football. He brought an F.A. Cup and two Championship titles to the London club before his tragic death due to pneumonia in January 1934. He is commemorated by the club with a bronze bust which stood in the marbled hall at Highbury and is now housed at the Emirates Stadium. This bound volume of match programmes is from the great man's first season at Highbury in 1925-26 when the Gunners finished runners-up in the League behind Chapman's old club Huddersfield Town.
