Edwards (Sir Fleetwood Isham, 1842-1910) exercises drawn at the Royal Military Academy, Sandhurst, in geometry and perspective, sections, elevations and plans of various fortification and means of attack, 8 pen and ink drawings with various coloured or monochrome washes, 5 each c.300 x 465mm., 3 folding out to 465 x 670mm., all signed and dated, original cloth boards, worn, upper board gilt-lettered Fortification Plates, R.M.A., F. Edwards, detached, folio, 1861-62. ***Sir Fleetwood Isham Edwards (1842-1910) left Harrow School for Sandhurst in 1861. He received a commission in the Royal Engineers in 1863. In the 1870s he was inspector of works at Woolwich Arsenal, then aide-de-camp to General Sir John Lintorn Simmons, inspector-general of fortifications. Following his contributions to the Berlin Congress, in 1878, he was appointed assistant privy purse and assistant private secretary to Queen Victoria. He later became head of the queen`s personal household, a privy councillor, and a close personal advisor. He was an executor of her will in 1901.

BOUTET. A FINE CASED PAIR OF FRENCH 20-BORE FLINTLOCK OFFICER'S PISTOLS, early 19th century, each with 10 3/8in. swamped octagonal multigroove rifled sighted barrel signed 'BOUTET DIRECTEUR ARTISTE MANUFACTURE A VERSAILLES' and with two gold-inlaid bands at the muzzle and gold-inlaid Empire style decoration including 'NB' maker's mark at the breech, gold-lined touch-hole, foliate and border engraved tang, border engraved lock respectively signed 'BOUTET DIRECTEUR ARTISTE' and 'MANUF. A VERSAILLES' and with stepped tail,semi-rainproof pan and roller, figured walnut full stock with chequered butt, set trigger, engraved iron mounts including trigger-guard (one cracked at tang) with foliate finial, and original ivory-tipped ramrod, in close-fitted brass-bound mahogany case relined in green leather with accessories including brass- mounted translucent horn pistol-flask, bullet mould and loading rods, the exterior with shaped brass escutcheon. Other Notes: Nicolas-Noel Boutet rightly claimed to be the finest gunmaker of his period in Paris. He was born in 1761 to Noel Boutet who held the position of Arquebusier des Chevaux Legers du Roi (Gunmaker to the King's Light Cavalry). Boutet trained under his father and his career was already assured when he married Louise-Emile Desaintes, the daughter of another royal gunsmith. He continued under his father until, in time, he assumed his position. This status quo remained until the French Revolution; following this Boutet was appointed Director of the new government's arsenal at the Palace de Versailles. In this new position he directed the manufacture of standard issue military arms but his interests lay in the making of fine presentation guns and swords. He received the highest accolades for his Fusils d'Honneur; these were specially made muskets given to soldiers in recognition of their bravery. In addition, he was charged with the building of very fine pistols and sporting arms which were presented to favoured officials and foreign dignitaries by the government. In 1804 Boutet took his son, Pierre- Nicolas, as business partner and they remained the most respected makers in Paris long after the fall of Napoleon in 1815. Boutet died in 1833 after having served France through the most tumultuous of times; when he began his apprenticeship France was still a monocracy but he lived through her transition to republic, followed by a brief rise of the Royal Family and then once again to republic.

A SWEDISH 8X58Rmm ROLLING-BLOCK SERVICE RIFLE, serial no. 3476, dated '1871', arsenal rebarrel from 12mm, 84cm. blued nitro barrel (proved in 2009) sighted to 1,600 metres, case-hardened action, 13 3/4in. regulation stock, the butt with brass roundel marked '4R. / B. / NO. 2431', the barrel and receiver with crowned 'C' for Husqvarna factory.

AN INDIAN PATTISSA, LATE 18TH/19TH CENTURY, with earlier blade of finely watered steel, broadening towards the tip, punched with a brief arsenal inscription on each side at the forte, iron hilt of talwar form, fitted with a pair of long shaped panels extending over the lower portion of the blade on each side, and decorated over much of its surface with silver koftgari flowers and foliage (small losses), in its leather-covered wooden scabbard with silver chape decorated with a lotus flower at the base (the mouth of the scabbard with one small chip), and shaped slender locket fitted with a suspension chain , 80.5cm; 31 3/4in blade

AN 18 BORE INDIAN MATCHLOCK MUSKET, EARLY 19TH CENTURY, with swamped sighted barrel of `orange peel` patterned twist steel, formed with a long sighting flat and engraved with an arsenal inscription, the breech with standing back-sight and moulded pan (pivot-cover missing), the lock enclosed by a flat shaped plate of matching steel engraved with a band of border ornament on each side, fitted with moulded serpentine, pierced engraved trigger, hardwood full stock, stained black and grooved for sighting behind the breech, slender faceted butt of characteristic form, a pair of brass sling swivels, and steel ramrod, 102.5cm; 40 3/8in barrel. A RARE PAIR OF .650 CALIBRE HANOVERIAN MODEL 1818/43 RIFLED PERCUSSION CAVALRY PISTOLS, NO. 449, with rebrowned tapering sighted 11 1/4 in barrels rifled with eight grooves, breech tangs numbered `5` and `6` respectively and incorporating the back-sights, stepped bevelled locks fitted with bolt safety-catches passing through from the opposite side and acting on the neck of the hammer, figured walnut full stocks (one fore-end repaired), the spines of the butts each with a pierced numbered plate for the shoulder stock, regulation brass mounts comprising flush-fitted side-plates stamped `K.G.7`, trigger-guards, butt-caps, and fore-end caps, with no provision for a ramrod, complete with numbered detachable shoulder stock impressed `K.G.7`, with its saddle bar with two rings, stamped throughout with the numbers `5` and `6` respectively and the arsenal marking `TS` conjoined, and remaining in good condition throughout, 43.8cm; 17 1/4in pistol without butt, (3). An early original team-group photograph of Woolwich Arsenal FC, the image 8 by 13cm., 3 by 5in., mounted, framed & glazed; sold together with a printed photograph of the Woolwich Arsenal team published in The People's Sporting Gallery, mounted, overall 37 by 42cm., 14 1/2 by 16 1/2in. (2). A previous owner has added a legend to the mount that pronounces this to be the earliest known original photograph of Woolwich Arsenal FC. Although indeed a very early image, the auctioneer is unable to confirm this claim..
