Jason Gibilaro Utopia V, 2022 Glazed Acrylic on Paper Signed verso 15 x 10cm (5¾ x 3¾ in.) About   A recurrent theme and starting point in Jason Gibilaro's recent work, has been memories both recent and not so recent that have left a visual impact. This usually represents imagery around a passing moment in a particular place and time. Some of the work has included the use of iconic imagery. Other work follows a social documentary scene with a snapshot of people in a particular place and moment in time.   All the pieces in the series are worked on concurrently. This allows each piece to breathe and develop at its own pace. Resting the work allows reflection, knowing when the work is complete. It is never clear how the final piece is going to resonate from the initial concept. This is always an inspiration that contributes strongly to the creative process. Select Exhibitions/Awards   Recent exhibitions and events have included Electric Art Car Boot Fair, London 2022; Figurative Art Now - Federation of British Arts, Online 21; Art Car Boot Fair, Flora & Fauna, Online 2021; Art Show Off, Studio 73, London 2020; Miniscule Venice Biennale, Venice 2019; Protocol, Q-Park Art, Cavendish Square 2018; Protocol, Q-Park Art, Cavendish Square Art Car Boot Fair Kings Cross, London 2018; ING Discerning Eye exhibition, Mall Gallery, London 2016; Aftermath, L'Aquila, Italy 2016; Liggers and Dreamers, The Stash Gallery, London 2015; Radar 100: Space Rage, The Residence Gallery 2012; Hackney Wicked Festival, London 2011; We live in Public - Bath Fringe Festival, Bath 2011; Korpúlfsstaðir , Reykjavik Iceland, 2009; Artist Flea Market - Tate Modern, London, 2009 Public Art Installations have included B OUR GUEST artwork/sign, commissioned by Brixton Town Centre, which was installed on the central railway bridge in Brixton from 2004 to 2018. Ian Ritchie OBE RA Have You Seen My Piano?, 2022 Ink on Paper Signed verso 15 x 10cm (5¾ x 3¾ in.) About   I begin developing my art, architecture, and industrial designs through language: poetry, prose, and the occasional aphorism, influenced by subjects ranging from physics and neuroscience to remote landscapes and history. The scientists, artists, actors, and musicians I am lucky enough to call friends lead me to explore and enjoy every wider field of learning, stretching my imagination further. At the stage when I can sense the emerging project, I attempt to translate the concepts visually. Pencil, pen, biro - all instruments that mark are valid. But the greatest pleasure comes when I draw with a Japanese brush soaked in Sumi black ink. The drawing - a few simple lines of architectural calligraphy - attempts to synthesise and reveal the essential from the words in a way that is immediately tangible as an object or space. I then produce these drawings as etchings in the London studio of the artist and printmaker Norman Ackroyd RA - a good friend who taught me to see the rainbow in black. My late friend John Hoyland RA introduced me to the life and language of colour, which resulted in the monoprints I create in Barbara Rae RA's Edinburgh studio. Her friendship and generosity allows me to feel colour while she encourages me to think less. During recent years I have also been producing figurative works which are reproduced as etchings for the Royal Academy of Arts Summer Exhibition, and as Christmas cards. My art is held in public collections including the Royal Academy of Arts, Reina Sofia Museum of Modern Art, Madrid, Lodz Gallery, Poland, the Hugh Lane Gallery, Dublin, and the Royal Collection Trust / Queen Elizabeth II. I have published several books on architecture and one book of poetry. I am an elected member of the Royal Academy of Arts, and the Akademie der Künste in Berlin, and lead ritchie*studio, an award-winning architecture and design practice renowned for glass architecture, material-technical innovation, and intelligent environmental and sustainable design Message from Art On A Postcard: Please do not bid if you intend to sell on the artwork. Adam Koukoudakis N.M.R.H Death Mask 1, 2022 Graphite, Acrylic and Ink on Paper Signed verso 15 x 10cm (5¾ x 3¾ in.) Adam Koukoudakis   About   Adam hails from South London - a father, painter, illustrator and collagist who studied Fine Art at Chelsea and Berlin Institutes of Art before graduating from Central Saint Martins in 2006. In the same year he was invited to participate in his first post - graduate show with the likes of Banksy et al at Greek Street's then infamous Lazarides Gallery, at a time when it was inspiring a broader movement of artists who blurred the lines between fine art, street art, illustration and graphics. In 2007 he accepted a further invitation to participate in Santa's Ghetto in Bethlehem, before embarking on a busy circuit of national & international shows, projects, publications, collaborations, auctions & private commissions which kept him out of trouble until 2010, when he took a hiatus to enjoy the rewards of fatherhood. Always a painter and lover of collage, Adam found a way to combine the two through his early exposure to screen printing by hijacking the pulling of ink & screen, and instead projecting his screens onto canvas and applying every benday by hand. His paintings and prints have always depicted subjects and topics close to his heart, from early political angst to the unapologetic love of his family and can be found in the permanent collections of the V&A & University of the Arts London, Atlantic Records & Sony BMG. Adam has been a practicing artist for over 20 years, living & with studios based out of North London.   Education   Chelsea College of Arts Central Saint Martins Berlin University of the Arts   Select Exhibitions/Awards   Stench - Lazardies Gallery - London Outside/Inside - Seth Carmichael Gallery - Los Angeles Santa's Ghetto - Palestine Geisterfahrer - Paintworks - Bristol TEMWA - Art for Africa Charity Auction - London/Bristol Shortlisted Finalist - National Open Art Competition - Chichester Shortlisted Finalist - Mercury Prize Art Competition - The Hospital - London Winning Finalist - Jealous Needs You Prize - Jealous Gallery - London   Gallery Representation   Jealous Gallery Smithson Gallery Paxton Glew   Statement about AOAP Submitted Artwork   The works I have submitted are my way of marking the death of Queen Elizabeth II They are a very loose play on the history of the death mask & are no way intended as an insult or mark of disrespect in her direction. Since then, without losing his sense of urgency, he has been working at a range of scales, including a whole wall on Dereham Place in Shoreditch. This was a collaboration with Mr Doodle - 'Rock Paper Wizards' - a project that became a series of 1,000 prints sold in aid of the Ben Raemers Foundation. His second solo show, "Fine Art", held in March 2022 in South Kensington, London, featured a whole collection of work made across two studios in Dalston, Hackney between 2021 and 2022. Lee Madgwick The Barn, 2022 Pen on Paper Signed verso 10 x 15cm (3¾ x 5¾ in.) About   Lee Madgwick's (b. King's Lynn, Norfolk 1980) mysterious and emotive paintings depict scenes of abandonment, seclusion and dereliction. Both his urban and rural pictures portray parts of the modern landscape that are often overlooked by many (with occasional sprinklings of surrealism). With an undercurrent of mischievous menace throughout, the subject matter is at once thrown into question. Who inhabits these places? What lives do they lead? What is happening or about to happen? "I would describe my work as imagined realism. I hope to achieve a sense of drama in my paintings, presenting a familiar image yet placing it in an intimate, moody and possibly unlikely setting. A narrative is very important - but intentionally never fully explained. I like to leave it for the viewer to come up with their own interpretation." Lee paints on canvas in oils and acrylics. A play of light is used to generate an abundance of seemingly inexplicable moods to contrast with a brooding sky. Lee has exhibited throughout the UK including London and Edinburgh as well as Dublin, Amsterdam, Rome, Milan, Stockholm, Madrid, Singapore and New York. His work features in private art collections around the world.   Education   2003 Graphic Design Norwich University College of the Arts   Select Exhibitions/Awards   Solo Exhibitions 2021 - Brian Sinfield Gallery, Burford, Oxfordshire 2021 - Hybrid Gallery, Honiton, Devon 2019 and 2017 - White Noise Gallery, Rome, Italy 2018, 2015, 2011, 2009 - Byard Art, Cambridge 2016 - Hybrid Gallery, Honiton, Devon 2014 - Langham Gallery, Bloomsbury, London 2005 - Doric Arts Gallery, King's Lynn Message from Art On A Postcard: Please do not bid if you intend to sell on the artwork. Edition (Second place award), 2017,London Statement about AOAP Submitted Artwork The artist dealing with loneliness of the individual of the present-day; makes us confront with the personal stories of her fragile, perturbed, melancholic, heroes and heroines who refer to solitude. Some of these moments that Serpil dwells on, there are some personal eccentricities, which appear in a passive- aggressive way. Even sometimes the personas of her painting make us think that they are taking a kind of pleasure to procreate drama. They can seem indifferent in a case or atmosphere where they are supposed to take pleasure. In a moment that seems ideal, beautiful or happy they can sabotage it. These heroes, who ruin their own pastel world, reflect the conflicts that we deal with, in our daily routine.     Message from Art On A Postcard: Please do not bid if you intend to sell on the artwork. I remember the horses standing sleeping like 'anthracite statues' as Dylan Thomas would call them. The other is an imagined scene in the Firth of Clyde. I was thinking of poet W.S Graham and painter William Scott, exiled Greenock men who made their work out of the beauty and strangeness found in the domestic. Katharina Renneisen Aja With Dots I, 2022 Oil on Silver Gelatin Print Signed verso 10 x 15cm (3¾ x 5¾ in.) About   Katharina Renneisen (*1978) is a German visual artist who uses analogue photography as her main medium. In her work, she focusses on classical subjects like the nude, the landscape, or the still life. Many of her silver gelatin prints are hand-coloured with oil paints.   Education   Humboldt-University of Berlin   Statement about AOAP Submitted Artwork   The submitted works are part of my ongoing occupation with the female nude. I first take the photographs with an analogue large format camera. From the negatives I then make silver gelatin prints, on which I finally apply oil paints. This technique not only allows for a more painterly depiction of the flesh, but it also gives me the possibility to freely create new compositions, which challenge the boundaries between photography and painting, figuration and abstraction. Jeffrey Harrison Soft Pink, 2022 Watercolour and Pencil on Paper Signed verso 15 x 10cm (5¾ x 3¾ in.) About   Jeffrey Harrison is Canadian oil painter who lives and works in Toronto. Harrison shuns the notion that paintings should have rules. And his paintings are anything but boring. Instead, he lets the painting do what he feels it has to do, and bends the rules of the medium to somehow make it work. And it does: The result is chaotic, a departure from the safety we've come to know in paintings. Vibrant colours, flowers, and fluid shapes fill the paintings; as if the amorphous figures are begging to be included, squeezed into the canvas.   Gallery Representation   He has been showing with Dianna Witte Gallery since 2005. In a natural extension of the artist's street art practice, Szabotage interprets this hallowed personality through his signature stencil language. This portrait features stencils in the background relating to Amy's particular journey to greatness and destruction. He painted Amy as a way to commemorate one of the biggest influences in the British music scene who sadly died too young. After painting Frida Kahlo in 2018 and seeing how influential and fruitful yet tragic her life was, he realised that he could respond to her story and paint her passionately, which he wanted to continue with Amy. Vacheron & Constantin. An aluminium open face keyless wind pocket watch together with a further aluminium pocket watchDate: Circa 1945Movement: 17-jewel Swiss lever, cut and compensated metallic balance, No.455197Dial: Silvered, applied polished Arabic numeral hour markers, black outer minute track, subsidiary seconds at 6, polished Breguet style handsCase: Polished round, snap on back engraved 'Presented to George Hodson by Aluminium Limited 1947', No.286909Signed: Case, dial & movementSize: 44mm Accompaniments: Vacheron & Constantin box, metal chain, brochure, further aluminium pocket watch bearing the name George Hodson, Chairman of British Aluminium LimitedFootnotes:In the mid 20th Century Vacheron & Constantin were commissioned with the difficult job of making a series of watches predominantly out of aluminium. Despite being so notoriously lightweight, Vacheron & Constantin were able to succeed and the case and plates of these watches were all made out of the material. The result was an exceptionally light but sturdy watch as found with the current lot. These watches were then gifted to important members of the various aluminium companies, often upon their retirement. The history of aluminium production is an interesting tale of cartels comprising global superpowers all pushing for dominance of key markets. There were three main cartels of the early to mid 20th century - Aluminum-Industrie A. G. Neuhausen (AIAG), The Aluminum Co of Amercia (Alcoa) and Alliance Aluminum Compagnie (AAC). The current lot has a presentation to George Hodson who is recorded as being the Resident Assistant Manager in Basel in 1931 until at least 1945 for AAC and along with Ludwig Braasch 'constituted, at least until 1939, the entire executive staff of Alliance'. Also included in the lot is a further aluminium pocket watch with the hour markers spelling out the name of George Hodson. QUINTILIANUS. De institutione oratoria ll. XII. Collatione Cod. Gothani et Iensonianae ed. aliorumque librorum ac perpetuo comm. ill. a I.M. Gesnero. Acc. praef. & indices copiosissimi. Gött., A. Vandenhoeck, 1738. (36), 640, (192) pp. 4°. Cont. vellum. (Upper hinge a bit weak/loosening, upper margin faintly stained at the beginning). NOTE:First edition by Gesner, who was appointed Rector of St Thomas School, Leipzig, in 1730, where Johann Sebastian Bach was Director of Music. In 1747 Bach published his Musical Offering and it may well be that Gesner's edition of Quintilian provided the inspiration for that work. - Graesse V, 529; Dibdin II, 370: "A very useful and admirable edition. (…) the best edition of Quintilian yet published."

JAPAN -- COLLECTION of 402 fine photographs of Japanese country side scenery, shrines and temples, festivities, beauties, vendors, professions and handicrafts, activities, etc. c. 1900's. All (but 5) coloured by hand. 235 photographs sized c. 200 x 260 mm and 168 photographs sized c. 93 x 137 mm. For the greater tipped in/laid down on greyish limp paper mounts from the period. The larger photographs partly captioned in the image. (Apart from some obvious slight fading/age-toning in very good condition, NB all photographs can be easily removed from mounts). NOTE:Large collection of souvenir photographs which value "lies not only in the information they contain about Japan, but also in the artistic acumen they convey. […] A noteworthy feature of these tourist photographs is that they are hand-coloured. This technique, which was apparently introduced by Wirgman and Beato, became common in Japan from the 1880s onward. Allthough this practice occurred in the West as well, it never reached the degree of sophistication it attained in Japan. Photographers [had] at their disposal […] a pool of well-trained artisans, men who worked in the print shops producing woodblock prints. When lack of work in this field caused them to lose their jobs, the blooming photographic industry presented a new employment opportunity." (M. Winkel 'Souvenirs from Japan' (1991), p. 31).
