Original vintage World War Two poster by the notable British cartoonist and illustrator, Fougasse (Cyril Kenneth Bird; 1887-1965). This is one of the posters from the popular Careless Talk Costs Lives wartime propaganda series issued by the Ministry of Information - "...strictly between these four walls!" Image of two men in armchairs holding newspapers with an image of Hitler's face in a portrait hanging behind them. Cyril Kenneth Bird CBE (17 December 1887 – 11 June 1965), known by the pen name Fougasse, was a British cartoonist best known for his work in Punch magazine (of which he served as editor from 1949 to 1953) and his World War II warning propaganda posters. He also designed many posters for the London Underground. Bird was born in London on 17 December 1887, the son of Arthur Bird, a company director. He was educated at Cheltenham College and King's College London (B.Sc). While at King's College he attended evening art classes at the Regent Street Polytechnic and at the School of Photo-Engraving in Bolt Court. He was seriously injured at the Battle of Gallipoli during World War I and invalided out of the British Army. Bird first contributed to Punch in 1916, while convalescing, and also contributed to several other British newspapers and magazines, including the Graphic and Tatler. His pen name was based on the fougasse, a type of mine. As one of the best known cartoonists of the time, he was one of 170 authors who created doll-sized books exclusively for Queen Mary's Dolls' House; his illustrated verse tale, written on postage stamp-sized pages, was published as a regular-sized hardback in 2012 by the Royal Collection and Walker Books. In the course of the 1920s and 1930s, his drawings evolved from the traditionally representational to an innovative, spare, style that was both unique and popular, featuring in many advertising campaigns as well as in magazine editorial. He became art editor of Punch from 1937 to 1949, then editor until 1953. He was the only cartoonist ever to edit the magazine. During World War II, he worked unpaid for the Ministry of Information, designing humorous but effective propaganda posters including the famous "Careless Talk Costs Lives" series. For this work he was awarded the honour of Commander of the Order of the British Empire in 1946. He illustrated and co-wrote several humorous books with W. D. H. McCullough. These included the very successful Aces Made Easy – or Pons asinorum in a nutshell, on the subject of contract bridge, in 1934, and You Have Been Warned – A Complete Guide to the Road, in 1935. In the mid 1950s, he taught at the Christian Science Sunday School in the Sloane Square church, which has since been converted into the Cadogan Hall concert hall. He died in London, aged 77. Since 2009 his cartoon of a butler carrying a tray has been used to illustrate the front page of British Airways' First Class menus, continuing an association with the airline which goes back to the 1930s when Fougasse penned advertising posters for BA's forerunner, Imperial Airways. Condition: Excellent condition.. Country of printing: UK, designer: Fougasse (Cyril Kenneth Bird, size (cm): 32x20.5, year of printing: 1940s.

Original vintage music poster advertising a concert headlined by Big Brother & The Holding Company and supported by Bo Diddly. The event took place from 24-27 at Avalon Ballroom, San Francisco. Great design by Bob Fried featuring an image of a man with a beard and a hat standing above a line of soldiers holding bayonets. Bill Graham (born Wulf Wolodia Grajonca; January 8, 1931 - October 25, 1991) was a German-American impresario and rock concert promoter from the 1960s until his death in 1991 in a helicopter crash. On July 4, 1939 he was sent from Germany to France to escape the Nazis. At age 10 he settled in a foster home in the Bronx, New York. Graham graduated from DeWitt Clinton High School and from City College with a business degree. In the early 1960s, he moved to San Francisco, and, in 1965, began to manage the San Francisco Mime Troupe. He had teamed up with local Haight Ashbury promoter Chet Helms and Family Dog, and their network of contacts, to organize a benefit concert, then promoted several free concerts. This eventually turned into a profitable full-time career and he assembled a talented staff. Graham had a profound influence around the world, sponsoring the musical renaissance of the '60s from the epicenter, San Francisco. Chet Helms and then Bill Graham made famous the Fillmore and Winterland Arena; these turned out to be a proving grounds for rock bands and acts of the San Francisco Bay area including the Grateful Dead, Jefferson Airplane, and Big Brother and the Holding Company with Janis Joplin, who were first managed, and in some cases developed, by Chet Helms. Condition: Excellent condition. Year of printing: 1967, country of printing: USA, designer: Bob Fried, dimensions (cm): 51.5x34.5.

Courtesy of Tamsin Wimhurst, Chair of Trustees and Founder of the David Parr House A 2.5 hour tour of the David Parr House in Cambridge for six people led by the Chair of Trustees and Founder of the David Parr House, Tamsin Wimhurst, including refreshments. David Parr was a 'decorator artist' who worked for some of our best-known Victorian designers of the day such as William Morris and George Bodley. He decorated churches and palaces for those who could afford such decoration but in his spare time he came home and decorated his humble terrace house in the same style. David Parr House was lived in by his granddaughter until a few years ago and its interior remained a wondrous hidden secret. Following restoration, it is now enjoyed by the public. www.davidparrhouse.org
Courtsey of Debbie Burton The Wall Art is called "Rainbow Wave ", and is a tribute to NHS staff and all our front line workers. The dimensions are approx 570mm (w) x 260mm (h). It comes with standoffs for wall mounting which allows light to reflect through the glass to bring the piece to life. It is made from fusing glass in a kiln to create the basic design, with a second firing to form the wave. Debbie is a fused glass artist who started working approximately 5 years ago. Her work comprises predominantly wall art which she has sold from her studios near Cambridge to clients all over the country, and she often works from commissions. "I love working with glass as the colours and reflections make the finished pieces vibrant and pleasing and there are really no limits to the effects that can be achieved." https://www.facebook.com/Foozd-Fused-Glass-103279624577183/

The long task weighed heavily even on Lydgate, who makes a number of semi-comic references to it, and at some point wrote a begging poem, the Letter to Gloucester (Minor Poems, 665-7), a witty request for funds." (Oxford DNB). An interesting choice of patronage by the youngest brother of Henry V, as he was to fall spectacularly from grace himself in the wake of his wife's arrest, for practising witchcraft against Henry VI. He was arrested in 1447 and died shortly thereafter.

This George Cukor adaptation of Louisa May Alcott's classic novel "Little Women" (1933) is probably the most beloved version of the oft-filmed story. The imagery of the US One-Sheet features all four New England sisters Jo (Katharine Hepburn), Amy (Joan Bennett), Meg (Frances Dee), and Beth (Jean Parker), who must deal with hardship and privation while their father fights in the Civil War. The highly desirable original unrestored stone litho poster offered here has fold wear with crossfold separation and other wear associated with age and handling. However the colours remain incredibly bright and the defects are nothing that a professional paper restorer couldn't competently deal with. Paper of this pedigree rarely ever comes to market and this is the first time (we believe) one has been offered in the UK. Something a bit different. A clever and innovative design by Laurent Durieux and a fresh take for the classic 'Gill-Man' Universal monster who makes regular appearances in the alternative 'Mondo' movie poster market. First offered for sale at the 'Mondotees' pop up stand at Fantastic Fest in 2012. It goes without saying, it sold out. Durieux's artwork for "Creature From the Black Lagoon" takes the form of a detailed ancient map with the the shape of the iconic 'creature' acting as an island. A Yoda inspired screenprint promoting the "1981 New Orleans Mardi Gras". Signed in pencil at the bottom "Red Issue, 596/770, L Graff". Yoda is sitting on a Bourbon Street street lamp post sign, sipping on a straw out of a bottle. Printed in 1981, these posters were not officially authorized by Lucasfilm Ltd. who only became aware of their existence when Allan Trosclair (head of security for Lucas from 1981 to 1985) was visiting New Orleans. He saw the poster for sale in a gallery and purchased it, so that he could show it to George Lucas. Lucas, notoriously known for protecting the integrity of the franchise, was amused by the absurd image and chose to not have his legal department pursue the artist for copyright infringement.21.75" x 28" (55 x 71 cm)Condition: ExcellentExcellent, flat and unfolded. Being on almost constant release since it premiered in 1981, "Raiders of the Lost Ark" received an updated movie poster for the 'official' re-release in 1982. Artistic duties were again assigned to Richard Amsel who produced a more exciting, action-packed offering. The overall ancient brickwork/papyrus styling remained but now fedora wearing Indiana Jones is featured in trademark bull whip cracking pose offset against the Ark of the Covenant with the strong supporting cast depicted rendered around the borders. A better image than the original? Not necessarily, just slightly different and a perfect addition to the canon. Especially desirable as offered here in near faultless original rolled (as issued) condition. Mike Nichols' "The Graduate" is one of Hollywood's greatest romantic comedies and rightly regarded as a true cinematic classic. This first release (1968) pre-award Embassy Pictures US lobby card #1 features one of the film's most memorable seduction scenes as Benjamin (Dustin Hoffman) stares transfixed by Mrs. Robinson's (Anne Bancroft) stockinged leg. The iconic limb on this lobby card belongs to Linda Gray (who later went on to fame in TV's "Dallas" as Sue Ellen) who acted as an uncredited 'leg-double' for Anne Bancroft. NSS #68/2611" x 14" (28 x 36 cm)Condition: Very GoodFlat, unfolded with no pin-holes or paper loss. There are a few scattered surface creases in the black and white imagery and an area (1" square) of white colour touch above the BUCK HENRY credits. Aside from these minor blemishes, the card presents to very good effect.Artist: Unknown Artist£150 - 250VAT Status: M
