Audemars Piguet faced considerable technical challenges maintaining the water resistance of such a thin case, while also introducing the additional correctors in the side needed for the perpetual calendar movement. The challenge required continual development and led to small differences between references. The current lot is a reference 25686PT and was produced in a very limited number of just 233 pieces. As referenced in Audemars Piguet 20th Century Complicated Watches, p.277, of the 233, 85 were made in steel, 70 in yellow gold, 43 in two-tone, 26 in platinum, and 9 in pink gold. The current example, executed in platinum, features a stunning Mother of Pearl dial that really has an exceptional colour and hue evoking an almost cloud-like appearance to the dial. To this day Mother-of-Pearl has remained one of the most consistently used and popular materials for watch dials with manufacturers at all levels incorporating the material into their designs. From full dial single sheets to intricately placed segments completing a luxurious jigsaw - Mother of Pearl is a very effective medium for adding depth to a watch. This example would be a fantastic piece to have in any collection. This lot is subject to the following lot symbols: Ω RΩ VAT on imported items at the prevailing rate on Hammer Price and Buyer's Premium.R This lot is subject to import restrictions when shipped to the United States. For further information on this lot please visit Bonhams.com

R P Ziff no.70, consisting of two cast iron sides, wooden seat and back bearing name labelFrom the vendor: While relocating my barber shop, I was looking to replace my waiting chairs with old style folding ones. Browsing online for cinema chairs I came across a local antiques shop selling some rusty and tatty chairs with a laminate plastic cover. I went to view them and was told that they were found in an old storage unit in a service pit used for servicing automobiles. They looked like they would clean up well, so I took up the challenge and bought a few. Stripping the plastic off uncovered lovely wooden seats and backs, on these backs were names. Until this point, I had not noticed the LUFC engravings on the cast iron bases due to the rust. Some of the chairs had names and one said Visiting Director. I protected these with masking tape. Manager Don Revies name was revealed to me while removing tape from a chair, accidentally pulling off another name. Since being restored by myself they have featured in an Antiques Roadshow episode, radio and newspaper articles.
