The barrels ring when tapped, there are no dents visible however there is a slight ripple seen sighting down the right tube around 8 inches from the muzzle perhaps indicating a dent that has been lifted. The left tube as a similar fault seen around 10inches from the breech. The bores have some pitting marks scattered through them which are mainly within the last third of the barrel, they are probably too deep to polish out. The barrels are in proof and measure at .736 R and .735 L against a proof stamp of '12' (.729) The wall thicknesses are a minimum of .25 R and .32 L. The barrels are on face and tight on the action with no wobble with the forend removed. The actions function correctly with snap caps. There are some dents to the fences of the action from the previous hammers, the edges of the barrel where they meet the fences have some pitting marks. There is very light pitting to other areas of the gun. The barrel wedge has the edge chipped. It is probably a replacement as it does not lie flat when pushed fully home. The stock is free from splits or repairs, there are occasional scratches and dents from use but nothing defacing. The forend has an extremely well-executed repair to the knife edge where the thinnest part of the wood meets the barrels. This is barely noticeable from the outside and only obvious when you take the forend off.
