William IV Irish silver coffee pot of baluster form, with panels of embossed fruit and floral decoration and flared rim, silver scroll handle with floral decoration and leaf thumb piece, cane insulators, domed hinged cover with flower-head finial, on four foliate scroll feet, engraved armorial crest (Dublin 1831), maker - E. P. All at approximately 33ozs, 23.5cm overall height CONDITION REPORT General overall condition good. Surface wear, scratching and minor dents commensurate with age and use. End of spout if slightly distorted. Handle may have been off at some time and insulators replaced. One foot may have been repaired underneath. Finial retaining nut is a modern replacement and is wrong thread. Marks are rubbed but legible

Slight rubbing of gilding and grazing of some flower petals and leaf edges. Coffee pot - handle with two old rivets to top and bottom. Small finger nail size chip on rim of coffee pot. Small chips around rim of spout. Some crazing of the glaze. Cover very good. Sugar bowl - small glaze chip to one handle. Lid very good. Milk jug - several chips around the outer rim. Generally the gilded garden scenes remain in very good condition, expect where specified. 210515

The Annunciation to the Virgin, - composite miniature formed from several parts of a miniature from... composite miniature formed from several parts of a miniature from an illuminated Book of Hours, on parchment [northern France (probably Rouen), c.1475] Composite leaf, with main parts of a miniature (including the Virgin to the left and the angel to the right, seated either side of a detailed Gothic interior with a white flower in a golden pot between them, by the Master of the Rouen Échevinage , fl.1455-85, or a skilled follower), the background to this scene perhaps once damaged and later replaced with two long cuttings from a border of the same volume (these with acanthus leaves and strawberries on dull-gold ground), comparison with the artist s other examples of this scene suggests that what is lost in the middle of the miniature is a long banderole held by the angel, border around this scene also cut from other parts of book with scrolling acanthus leaves and large flowerheads, other flowers and seed pods, all on blank parchment and laid down on old paper, 130mm. by 92mm., framed

Illustrated: Turner 1908, p254, fig XX, a white vase of this shape and size belonging to the family of Mr R B Gray. These vases appear to be rare examples of Randall's own Madeley porcelain.
