A Worcester cylindrical mug transfer-printed in underglaze blue with the La Peche and La Promenade Chinois pattern. circa 1770-75, W mark, 14cm highSee C & W P page 133 for a discussion of this subject and the differences between Caughley and Worcester versions of this pattern, and also plates 258 and 259 for both Worcester and Caughley examples. There is a glaze fault near the base, no signs of any cracks, chips, damages nor rpeairs. There is a 'ding' visible below the base of the handle.

A Caughley porcelain artichoke ice cup and cover transfer-printed in the Fisherman or Pleasure Boat pattern, circa 1780-90, unmarked, 9cm highLiterature: See CP, page 7, no.71 for a similar ice cup described, where the author notes, 'These pieces are more usually described as Artichoke cups, but the Chamberlain accounts for 9th October, 1979, record the purchase of 6 ice-cups and covers, Artichoke pattern, at 1/6, which would seem to suggest that the use of 'Artichoke' in the context of these accounts refers to the shape of these small vessels rather than the usage. In original order with no signs of any cracks, chips, damages or repairs.

Four Caughley lobed plates painted with a fan-panelled landscape within powder blue ground, circa 1777-85, impressed Salopian and painted faux Chinese mark, 18cm diameter (4)Literature: Ironbridge 1999 No.371 and Newsletter 2009 No.40 p.6. A single plate from the Wright Collection sold in these rooms, Apr 26, 2017 for £380. One plate has been broken in half and re-stuck, currently also attached by tape as well as glue. Beyond that, just general wear, no further damages.

Godden Reference and Barbara Leeke Collections, the other ex. Bill Dickenson, Ironbridge. One plate has a few imperfections to the foot rim, the second plate has similar. No cracks, chips, damages, nor repairs.

A Worcester cylindrical mug painted in blue with the Rock Strata Island pattern, circa 1770-80, crescent mark, 15cm highThe Caughley factory made an identical version of this pattern, which when combined with its painted 'C' mark is very difficult to distinguish from the Worcester version. Lowestoft also used this design as the basis of an underglaze blue printed pattern; this, too, is quite similar to that of Worcester, but as it is printed rather than painted, is easier to distinguish. The design is directly copied from a very popular Chinese pattern.

Provenance: Purchased for £26 in November, 1921. About one half of the mug has been restored and re-built, though the handle has not been off.
