Parachute Regiment Attributed Commanding Officer’s Red Beret. Worn by Lieutenant Colonel Peter Mandeville Aldersley Taylor MC & Bar, who commanded the 5th & 2nd Battalion Parachute Regiment in the early post war years. Comprising: Red Beret complete with cap badge, the interior with stamp Kangol Wear Limited 1946. Very Clean. Contained in a Bates service dress cap box addressed to “Lt Col P.M.A. Taylor MC HQ 2 Inf Div Coln RASC BAOR 34”. (2 items) Lieutenant Colonel Peter Mandeville Aldersley Taylor MC & Bar originally served in the ranks before being commissioned into the Queen’s Regiment. He was awarded the MC & Bar with 2/6th Bn and at the end of the war gained a permanent commission. In 1946 he became second-in-command of the 8/9th Parachute Battalion and saw service in Haifa with 6th Airborne Division. He commanded the 5th (Scottish) Parachute Battalion and later the 2nd Parachute Battalion in Germany. After breaking his leg while captaining the Para rugby team, he was medically downgraded. He transferred to the RASC and commanded a number of Royal Army Service Corps Units, one of these commands took him to Egypt during the Canal Zone crises.
Royal Tank Regiment full dress astrakhan beret. A scarce early Elizabeth II example tailored by Herbert Johnson of London. Black astrakhan wool body and crown, with a band of black mohair edged with gold cord. To the front a bullion regimental Officer’s cap badge, which supports the regimental feather hackle of brown, red and green. The interior retains sweatband; tailor’s label. GC ... These images include small groups, a number in jungle surrounding, presumably on operations. Wessex Helicopters, one showing landed in Jungle surroundings. A Jeanne Lanvin black felt conical hat, early 1930s, with narrow yellow on white woven label, hand numbered 52948, of conical shape with black glazed cotton fins; together with a Claude Saint Cyr golden velvet swirling beret; and a brown velvet hat 1950s (3) CONDITION REPORT: Lanvin hat - good condition, some dulling to the almost patent effect cotton bands, tulle lining has a couple of pinhead sized holes (minor); Saint Cyr - good condition; third hat has a bogus Patou label, this has a few small scuff marks to chenille, centre seam of lining needs re-stitching.
An Italian Lenci felt girl doll, 1920s-30s, with painted side glancing eyes, nostrils and lips, rouged cheeks, blonde bobbed hair (possibly trimmed), on a jointed body with joined finger hands, wearing just a red beret and brown leather shoes, 16½in. (42cm.) high. * Condition: Hair possibly trimmed. Lacks clothes apart from hat and shoes. Face a little dirty but no wear to painted features. Felt to front of body also a little dirty. Slight indent to body just below neck to front. Small brown stain mark to left leg.
A Large Deans Rag Book cloth doll, 1939, the moulded felt face with painted brown side-glancing eyes, red lips and rosy cheeks, blonde plaited wool hair with red ribbons and swivel neck, on a cloth body and wearing winter yellow jumper, green felt pleated skirt, shorts, shoes, mittens and beret, green tights and a tartan scarf, label to left foot, 42” (106.5cm) tall, condition good, see page 76 in ‘The Deans Rag Book Company Limited, The first 100 years’ by Neil Miller for similar doll.
Extremely rare and early Bees wax shoulder head Lady and Gentleman Dolls, English mid 18th century, the wax Lady with slightly turned head, each doll with inserted blue glass eyes, painted mouth and eyebrows, remains of hair, on cloth bodies with wax lower arms having separately moulded fingers and thumbs and remains of red wax shoes, the Lady wearing her original Mantua paper lined dress in Spitalfields silk with large brightly coloured embroidered flower decoration, and scallop hem, hat and dress with elaborate silver and gold wire and spangles decoration and bag, the Gentleman wearing paper lined green Spitalfields silk long coat with large gold stitched cuffs, jacket and pantaloons, coat and jacket decorated with gold wire and spangle trim and embroidered silk beret, both mounted on wooden bases, gentleman’s face a little sunken in, possibly due to heat, both approx. 8 ¼” (21cm) tall, (2 items). Interestingly this pair of dolls came with a very early henna handkerchief with written note, ‘Pattern Stamped, ??, Central Provence India’, and an ink drawn and painted Coat of Arms ‘Pro Patria Populoque’ (For the Fatherland and the People). This being the motto and Coat of Arms for Blundell’s Boarding School, Tiverton, founded in 1604.

Or WWII interest: - the Sam Browne belt belonging to Rita Wightman a decoder in FANY (First Aid Nursing Yeomanry), together with an RAF scarf, buttons, beret , a photograph of Rita Wightman, and a watercolour of a plane, date '22-IX-1940' * Notes. Additional information ….. Mrs Wightman was at the time, Mrs Barrett, wife of SOE operator Dennis Barrett from F Section. He was captured in July 1944 and was executed in Buchwald Concentration Camp. She was in the FANYs and was in contact with overseas SOE agents. The Sam Browne belt is signed on the reverse by some of her FANY friends and by Stephen Ward the society osteopath
