Special Air Service 21 SAS "Founding Father's" Uniform.A regimentally important uniform worn by Lieutenant Colonel Ronald Hugh Grierson, who had participated in SAS operations in WW2 and was the first Commanding Officer of 21 SAS holding the post from 1948 to 1952. The servicedress Black Watch doublet retains Regimental buttons, Lt Col. rank insignia and medal ribbons: 1939/45 Star, Italy Star, France & Germany Star, Defence Medal, MID Oak Leaf. Above the medal ribbons is tailored a superb pair of SAS wings, these with coloured silk embroidered wings and a bullion parachute to the centre. The lining with tailor's label and ink name "Maj R.H. Grierson 7-9-45". ... Accompanied by Black Watch Officer's kilt (moth peppering). ... Officers shirt and collar. ... Modern SAS beret, with bullion embroidered badge, believed to have been worn on veteran parades. The doublet remains in good clean condition, but with some moth nips. Lieutenant Colonel Ronald Hugh Grierson was born in Nuremberg in 1921, his original name Rolf Hans Griessmann. At the age of 11 his family moved to Paris and in 1936 to London. He continued his education in England and in 1939 he went up to Balliol College Oxford. In July 1940 was arrested and interned as a foreign national. After his tribunal he was released and joined the Army Pioneer Corps, most of his time spent digging drains in the West Country. He was accepted for a commission in the Black Watch and was attached to the Army Air Corps and volunteered for SAS operations. On the night before his embarkation to North Africa and Italy he was dinning a young lady at the Berkeley Hotel and the couple came up with the Anglicised name Ronald Hugh Grierson, which he would later officially adopt. He saw service in Italy, where he was wounded in action and later France, Germany and Norway. In 1945 whilst serving with B Squadron SAS was again wounded and captured. On release as a POW he returned to duty and served in Germany with the Control Commission as a Liaison Officer. He was demobbed with the rank of Lt. Col in 1946, but was recommissioned in 1948 to take command of the newly formed Territorial 21 Special Air Service based in London. He remained in Command until 1952. In his post military life he followed an international industrial career and was Knighted in 1990. He died in 2014. His obituary appearing in the Daily Telegraph.

Lining and sweatband. Lining lose and a blue United Nations Beret, U.N. symbol on front, full black lining. Label with "Property of United Nations". Original enamel badge. Size 7-1/8.
WW2 Polish 3rd Carpathian Division Badge, Insignia and Paperwork Grouping, consisting of white metal 3rd Carpathian Division screw back breast badge with F M LORIOLI makers mark, small collar screw back badge of the 3rd Carpathian division, silver 3rd Carpathian division combat badge with screw back fitting, Polish 2nd Armoured division breast badge with F M LORIOLI maker marked dish back, post war veterans badge, cloth 2nd Corps formation sign, pair of un-issued POLAND nationality shoulder titles and blue / black backed beret badge. Insignia is accompanied by British Army Soldiers Service and Release book for Aleksander Wojnicz with uniform photograph stuck into the front and stamped Discharged, membership card for Union of Polish War Disabled ex serviceman dated 1950 in the same name but appears to be a different person from the photograph, Polish Travel Document (Passport), Polish Ladies Certificate of Registration, piece of shrapnel and Sports medal. McDiarmid who served in the Royal Navy from 1916 until 1945 & on HMS Hood between 1923 &1925 during the World Cruise.Included are his Certificate of Service (with cover), Qualifications in Stoker Ratings Record, RN Education Certficates, Rifle Practice record, cap & beret badges, WWII medals; Atlantic Star, Africa Star, Pacific Star, 1939-45 Star & War Medal (apparently unworn) & a photograph of the recipient in uniform.Items included relating to the World Cruise are the album of photographs recording the ships, officers, activities & destinations involved, three related leaflets & the illustrated book on the Cruise 'The Empire Cruise' by V.
