A fine pair of percussion target pistols made for the Ottoman market, probably for presentation, Liege proof,dated 1848 numbered 51 and 52, each with etched twist octagonal sighted barrel of bright steel rifled with nine grooves, encrusted with gold linear panels over its length, enclosing small designs of gold and silver scrollwork at both ends, encrusted with decorative gold and silver bands at the breech and muzzle, numbered and dated in stamped miniscules beneath, and fitted with case-hardened breech cut with gold-bordered panels of diamond chequering enriched with silver dots , the breech tang decorated en suite with both the breech and the lock, fitted with back-sight and incorporating a very small cartouche engraved with the maker's device, the initials 'LF' above a rampant beast, and the pair numbered 1 and 2 in gold, each with highly figured walnut full-stock inlaid with wire scrollwork over its length, full gilt-metal mounts cast with bold neo-rococo ornament in relief on a contrasting pounced 'fishroe' ground, each retaining its original ramrod, with silver escutcheons each with a brief Ottoman inscription, and the pair preserved in near-unused condition and retaining almost all of their original finish:
