RAIDERS OF THE LOST ARK (1981) - Indiana Jones' (Harrison Ford) Smith & Wesson Mk II Hand Ejector Revolver - Indiana Jones' (Harrison Ford) Smith & Wesson Mk II Hand Ejector revolver from Steven Spielberg's action-adventure film Raiders of the Lost Ark. Indy used his revolver throughout the film as he attempted to unearth the Ark of the Covenant before it fell into Nazi hands. The Indiana Jones franchise's inaugural film became 1981's highest-grossing film, winning numerous Academy Awards and a BAFTA, and subsequently preserved in the US Library of Congress' National Film Registry in 1999. Its success led to Harrison Ford's recognition as a leading man, in addition. Rented to the production by UK armorer Bapty, this is believed to be one of two revolvers used by Ford during production at Elstree Studios and the Tunisia set. It is designed to shoot .455 blanks and stamped with serial number 37891 and gold Smith & Wesson logos.Production also made several modifications to the revolver, including boring out and shortening its barrel, adding a custom-made ramped front sight, and applying a patina throughout to make the gun appear well-worn. It features diamond-patterned walnut grips with a swivel lanyard on the underside. Also included with the lot are a Bapty Letter of Authenticity and a Certificate of De-Activation from The London Proof House. The pistol has been sympathetically deactivated, although the hammer, trigger and chamber remain functional, and it exhibits tarnishing, scratching, and minor dents in the grip from production use and handling. THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION (1994) - Andy Dufresne's (Tim Robbins) Distressed Rock Hammer - Andy Dufresne's (Tim Robbins) distressed rock hammer from Frank Darabont's prison drama The Shawshank Redemption. Dufresne used his rock hammer to dig a secret tunnel out of Shawshank State Prison. The Shawshank Redemption, adapted from Stephen King's novella of a similar title, saw great success in the home-video market with Warner Home Video shipping over 320,000 copies throughout the United States in 1995, allowing it to become the seventh top rental of that year. It was inducted into the United States Library of Congress' National Film Registry as a culturally significant work in 2015, and is featured on numerous top film lists from not only the American Film Institute but also numerous media outlets, including Rolling Stone and USA Today.Three styles of rock hammer were created for the film, with increasingly damaged bodies and shortened heads designed to reflect various amounts of use over Dufresne's 20-year imprisonment. This steel and wood version representing the second-oldest style originated from Darabont's personal collection. To appear used, its head is intentionally dulled and scratched by production with some discoloration applied around the top of the handle. The hammer exhibits some shifting to its rivets and minor chips to the wood.
