Seiwert, Franz Wilhelm -- HolzschnitteCa. 11 Blatt Holzschnitte auf bräunlichem Maschinenpapier. Um 1918.Bis ca. 30 x 22,5 cm (Blattgröße).Teils signiert, teils monogrammiert, teils datiert.Seiwert, der Kopf der Kölner Progressiven, begann sein Schaffen mit einem expressionistischen Frühwerk. Nach dem Ersten Weltkrieg wirkten die Hauptströmungen der internationalen Avantgarde, Konstruktivismus, Neue Sachlichkeit, Purismus, Bauhaus, vom russischen Suprematismus bis zum holländischen De Stiijl, auf das Werk Seiwerts. Seit 1921 begeisterte er sich für den Marxismus, und seine immer abstrakter werdenden, revolutionären späten Werke thematisierten das soziale Elend der Arbeiter im Ruhrgebiet. 1922 lernte Seiwert in Düsseldorf Kurt Schwitters, László Moholy Nagy und El Lissitzky kennen. Seine Drucke erschienen in der Zeitschrift Der Strom und in der vom Berliner Schriftsteller Franz Pfemfert herausgegebenen Zeitschrift Die Aktion. Sowohl die hoch reduzierten, konstruktiven Kompositionen mit der charakteristischen Einbeziehung von Schriftelementen als auch die politische Aussagekraft machen Seiwert zu einem wichtigen Wegbereiter der konstruktivistischen und sozialistischen Kunst der Weimarer Republik im Rheinland. OK.Hammer holds in both positions and springs are working.The timber is quite scratched and knocked in places.Some rust to the barrel – see images.White marks to the stock.Barrel appears straight.Rod is bent and a little stiff.

Soviet Rocket sculpture, 1970Aluminium, silver painted inscribed with Cyrillic initials 'A.M.I' and dated '70' on base height: 290 cm (114 3/16 in).Footnotes:ProvenanceAcquired by Dr Frank Malina, an American aeronautical engineer and painterThence by descentAlexei Isayev (1908-1971) was a rocket engine designer who contributed and managed the Soviet Space Program partnered with Soviet Chief Designer Sergei Korolev. Specialising in small-scale, liquid-fuelled rocket engines, Isayev designed newest missiles (R-11) the Scud which are still in use today. In 1954 he designed the engines for the Surface to Air Missiles and the Burya booster rocket and in 1961, the retrofire TDU engine, powered the first spacecraft (the Vostok). This engine sent the first astronauts into space and the Zenit satellites. In 1966 his team produced the KTDU-35 engine which was used for the unmanned probes to the Moon for a decade, the larger engines were used for Soyuz and Salyut spacecraft as well as in the Mir space station, from 1971 to 1999. The modified version of this engine is still used to this day.
