A VERY GOOD CASED .577 CALIBRE PERCUSSION PRESENTATION SPORTING RIFLE, 30.25inch sighted octagonal browned damascus barrel fitted with blued rear leaf sights and engraved with the recipient's name J. H. THORNHILL ESQUIRE, border and scroll engraved case colour hardened gold lined breech with platinum vent, border and scroll engraved case colour hardened lock and hammer, half stocked with crisply chequered fore-end and wrist, border and scroll engraved blued steel mounts, the trigger guard with case colour hardened forward tang, contained in its green baize lined mahogany case, the inside of the lid affixed with a newspaper cutting "DARLASTON - On Tuesday the 18th instant a handsome case, containing a very superior got up rifle piece &c. was presented to J. H. Thornhill Esq, Surgeon, Darlaston, by Mr James Wilkes, at the Vine Inn, of the same place, as a mark of gratitude for the kind attention paid to him by that gentleman during his late illness; a circumstance which the medical profession seldom have the opportunity of boasting of, April 1854." complete with cleaning rod, bullet mould, turn screws, nipple key, oil bottle, cap tins and sling, one lidded compartment with bone lifter. This gun retains virtually all of its original finish and save for a small loss of wood to the left side of the fore-end is in very good condition and works well on FC and HC with a clean bright bore.

One hammer works well on FC and HC the other soft and FC only, dirty bores.

A .451 CALIBRE PERCUSSION WESTLEY RICHARDS MILITARY MATCH MONKEY TAIL RIFLE, 36inch sighted blued barrel fitted with rear leaf and ladder sights and engraved WHITWORTH LONDON, the left side of the breech with the serial no. 467, this repeated on the breech cover, bolted lock engraved WESTLEY RICHARDS & CO. over 1860, retains some colour, full stocked with chequered fore-end and wrist, regulation steel mounts, the butt with trap containing two cleaning tools. Good on FC and HC with clean bore. Hammer possibly replaced.

Good on FC and HC with clean bright bore, hammer nose shroud shaved off.
