Four Poster bed, made for a Grand Designs episode featuring a Cheltenham property. King size. Approx 242 cm high, 175 cm wide, 239 cm long. Wood on the four posts and bed head is old (vendor believes 200yrs) and from Afghanistan. Curtain rails and pelmets were made to complete the bed. Curtains are silk. The bed is in our saleroom in its dismantled state as our ceiling height is too low for it to be fully displayed as a whole.
A pair of crewel work linen curtains and a pelmet in late 17th century style, circa 1920, worked in wool with deer and hounds in a landscape to the lower border, branches with flowers and birds over, corded to edge of one curtain, initialled and dated 1920 bottom right, 164 wide overall, 203cm long, the matching pelmet, 260cm wide, 36cm deep
A pair of late 17th century Italian decorative embroidered curtains, each made up of three panels, the motifs probably re-applied, but in any case extensively embroidered and with attached silver braid in the late 19th century. Originally these would have been separate panels, probably applied to walls. Three panels of flowers within acanthus leaves and mythical dragons at the base. Thick floss silks, flat silver braid, the crimson velvet ground 17th c. The edges with a double row of colour blocks. The top with plaited silk rope trim. Dimensions; 243 x 148 cm. Provenance; Rushbrooke Hall, Bury St Edmunds Condition Report / Extra Information Curtain 1. The velvet ground is generally quite worn, areas where the silks have worn throughout the curtains, as you look at the curtain one small tear 1 cm x 1/2 cm - 35 in from bottom of curtain and 6 inches in from right hand border, 19th century silk taffeta lining brittle and damaged, interlined. Curtain 2. The top half of this curtain has bright and clear colours, the lower row of flowers and leaves is quite dull, quite dirty, as you look at the curtain there is colour run to the last large flowerhead on the left hand side, three x 2 - 3” areas where the brown edging silk has come away, but could be repaired.
An 18th century Italian crimson silk velvet single curtain made up for four panels. The velvet is appliqué with gilt metal strips laid on a silk ground, the motifs edged with silk wrapped gold thread. Dimensions: left side 200 x 230cm, right side 250 x 230cm. Provenance; Rushbrooke Hall, Bury St Edmunds Condition Report / Extra Information This must have been one of a pair of curtains for a curved window with the longer length being the centre. The extreme left hand panel has quite a lot of wear to the left hand side and the plain velvet bottom edge is very dusty. Needs cleaning. Other panels in good condition.
