Internally, the case is set with a pair of brass hinges, retaining lever, safety winding key set in a quadrant and a gimbal lock. The 3.75-inch silvered dial signed Thomas Adams, Maker to H. R. H. Prince Albert, 36 Lombard St. London, the minute track enclosing Roman numerals and gold Breguet style hands, the subsidiary power reserve dial at XII running from 0-54 marked in 6-hour increments with instruction to wind at 24 hours, the observatory-style subsidiary seconds dial between V-VII, engraved 4242, Universal Compensation, with blued steel hand. The spotted full plate movement with four ringed pillars and maintaining power to the chain fusee, free sprung blued steel helical balance spring with diamond endstone and modified Earnshaw type escapement, the cut and compensated bimetallic balance with timing screws and extremely rare wired weight compensation. Sitting in a weighted, gimballed bowl. Ticking with a Tipsy key and case key. Breguet No. 759. A very fine silver hump-backed carriage clock with perpetual calendar, moonphase, grande sonnerie striking and alarm, sold to Ettore Bugatti in 1931. In the original fitted box, with certificate No. 3278Breguet, Paris, number 759The silver hump back case surmounted by the original chain link handle, over a repeat button and solid sides, the rear door opening with a secret screw system released only by the winding key, raised on button feet. The silver engine turned dial with outer dotted minute band (with slightly larger to mark every five minutes) framing the Roman numerals and finely engine turned centre; just below XII sits the subsidiary dial for running seconds (marked in Arabic quarters and again with the dotted band) over an alarm-setting dial (titled on a gold plaque) at III; the moon's age given on a subsidiary dial at IX, via a gold and blued steel rolling moon disc set over an engraved cloudy sky. With fine blued steel hands throughout. All set within a finely engine turned gilt mask with two applied gold signature plaques Breguet and No. 759 above four rectangular apertures offering the day (in French), date, month and year. The eight day movement wound through the rear panel (each winding aperture protected by a gilt ball stopper, one polished, the other matted joined by a gilt chain), with frosted gilt arched plates and highly polished steel work. A blued steel selection lever allows the owner to choose between full grande sonnerie striking (i.e. the hours and quarters announced on a pair of gongs every fifteen minutes); petite sonnerie (just each quarter announced every fifteen minutes) or silence. The quarters and hours struck on a pair of polished steel gongs, the alarm is struck on a third shaped steel gong. The escapement with fine quality cut and compensated bimetallic balance to a jewelled lever escapement. Ticking, striking and repeating. Together with the original fitted travel case with gilt-tooled edges and turnbuckle catches to the side, the front door with sliding cover that allows the dial to be either protected or revealed during transit; the interior fitted to accommodate the hand setting and winding key, the latter ingeniously mounted with a pair of steel pins in the handle to allow the rear door to be opened. 15.5cms (6.25ins) high. Um den natürlichen Druck der Schwerkraft auf ein Uhrwerk zu minimieren und somit den Zeitverlust zu verhindern, wurde das Tourbillon im Jahr 1801 von dem französischen Uhrmacher Abraham-Louis Breguet entwickelt. Beim Tourbillon werden das Schwing- und Hemmungssystem in einem rotierenden Käfig oder einer Drehscheibe untergebracht. Das Tourbillon verteilt die Schwerkraft gleichmäßig auf das Schwingsystem und trägt so wesentlich zur Verbesserung der Ganggenauigkeit bei, unabhängig von der Position der Uhr.Da das Tourbillon nicht nur äußerst kostspielig und komplex in der Herstellung war, sondern auch sehr empfindlich und anfällig für Störungen, erfand der Däne Bahne Bonniksen Ende des 19. Jahrhunderts das sogenannte Karussell. Bei einer Karussell-Taschenuhr drehen sich die Hemmungsteile nicht so schnell, sondern wesentlich langsamer, nur knapp einmal pro Stunde. Dadurch kann das drehbare Ganggestell massiver gestaltet werden, während der beabsichtigte Zweck, die Schwerkraft auszugleichen, weiterhin erreicht wird. Aufgrund der langsameren Rotation bietet das Karussell eine längere Kompensationsperiode, was als vorteilhaft für die Ganggenauigkeit angesehen werden kann. Ein wesentlicher Unterschied zwischen Tourbillon und Karussell liegt neben der Rotationsgeschwindigkeit im Antrieb des Drehgestells. Beim Tourbillon erfolgt der Antrieb über das Sekundenrad, während beim Karussell das Drehgestell in der Regel vom Kleinbodenrad angetrieben wird.Das hier zur Versteigerung stehende Objekt befindet sich in gutem Zustand und wird mit einer Archivauskunft sowie einer Kopie der originalen Verkaufsrechnung angeboten.
