F. HANCOCK, 39, Bruton St. LONDON, with fixed winder and sliding aperture to reveal the escapement, the shaped movement with lever escapement and plain steel three-armed balance, the oval porcelain dial within an ormolu mask, the white chapter ring with Roman numerals, painted to the centre with two figures, one representing Diana, wearing a crescent in her hair, and her companion Mercury with winged helmet, a ribbon-tied vine garland above, and an oak and laurel trophy below30cm highThomas Cole (d. 1864) was the brother of the celebrated clockmaker James Ferguson Cole (d.1880), the 'English Breguet'. They were born in Nether Stowey, Somerset; their father James Cole was a clockmaker. In 1823 Thomas and James entered into partnership at 3 New Bond Street, London. When the partnership was disolved in 1829, Thomas went to work independently as a watchmaker. By 1845 he described himself as a 'designer and maker of ornamental clocks'. He exhibited at the 1851 Great Exhibition in his own right as well as having products he made on stands of at least four different firms, each of unique design, to ensure no conflict of interest. He exhibited again at the Paris Universelle of 1855 and at the International Exhibition in 1862, where he was awarded a medal. Elected a member of the Royal Society, he was also a member of the British Horological Institute.His innovative design and quality of work was encapsulated by Charles Frodsham, who in his official report of the 1862 Exhibition notes 'nothing could exceed the beauty of design and good taste of the varied models and general excellence of workmanship'.See John. Records show Clerke as a watchmaker in 1851 in Islington. He was established at 168 Fenchurch Street 1865-1871, after which he took over C. C. Webb's business in The Royal Exchange, where he continued to run the chronometer and watchmaking business until his death in 1885. His son Frederick James Clerke took over the business.

A Gold Plated and Steel Centre Seconds Wristwatch, signed Movado, model: Tempomatic, circa 1948, (calibre 220) lever movement signed, buffer rotor, silvered dial with Breguet type numerals and a outer fifths of seconds track, gold plated bezel and lugs, screw back with case maker's mark FB for Francois Borgel and numbered 242109 16152, 34mm wide see illustration The Tempomatic was released in 1942 as one of Movado's premier automatic watches. 08.02.19, Case with surface scratches, bezel with minor dents visible under an eyeglass, top left hand lug with one small dent, back cover with small opening tool scratch marks, later strap and buckle, original dial finish is very slightly discoloured in parts, winding crown with minor dents and is slightly rubbed, hand setting correctly, movement in going order.

Second quarter of 20th century Swiss 18ct gold open face keyless pocket watch, Eterna, 2474121, the polished movement jewelled to the centre and with bi-metallic cut compensated balance and blued steel overcoiled hairspring with lever escapement to a signed and silvered double-sunk Arabic dial with Breguet numerals and outside minute track with blued steel moon hands in a hinged and polished case with presentation inscription, "MA with best wishes from his friends at Abdulla 1st Jan 1933" and marked 18, .75, 2623423, weight approx 43gms all in, width 45mm and contained in its original fitted gilt highlighted morocco covered case
