D. white with painted Arabic numerals graduated from 0.5 to 14, the red hand on the outer graduation in fifth of a second can be set by turning the bezel. Bâton blued steel chronograph hand. Mechanism numbered 636 , Swiss made ', gilt brass, 15 jewels, straight line lever escapement, monometallic balance, self-compensating Breguet balance-spring. The pusher at 11 is for stopping the chronograph hand, the co-axial pusher on the winding-crown is for starting the chronograph function back and forth and return to zero. Case back etched Flying Armament school, Manston and numbered 26467 to inside of case.The school at Manston was established in the water of 1915-16 instruct pilots in the use of the new Handley Page bombers, and by the close of 1916 was known as the Operational War Flight Command and the Handley Page Training School.. Mechanism functioning well at time of inspection, overall in good condition for age.

Signed and inscribed postcard photograph `René Bedel´, Angers, 17th June 1912, on the occasion of the Anjou June 1912 contest won by Rolland Garros; René Cheveau (1891-1914) Dead at the age of 23 on board. Signed postcard photograph, `R. Cheveau´, 29th July 1911, the image showing Beaumont´s arrival to Vincennes; Maurice Guillaux (1883-1917) First to perform an air mail and air freight flight from Melbourne to Sydney. Killed in the crash of a new aircraft he was testing. Signed postcard photograph, `Guillaux´, the image showing a Clement Bayard airplane with his aeroplane; Albert Mezergues (1886-1925) Dead as a result of the injuries suffered when commanding the 37th aviation regiment in Morocco. A.L.S., three pages, 8vo, Gabés, Tunisia, in French. Mezergues commands a Breguet squadron and states `I will be able to work and spend my time after war in the colonial aviation… I do not miss France..´ Accompanied by a tricolor ribbon apparently signed by Mezergues to the white part; Charles Nieuport (1878-1913) Aviator and airplane manufacturer. Dead on board of one of his manufactured airplanes named after him. A.L.S., one page, 8vo, in French. Nieuport states in part `..the Greeks have not signed the armistice, and have made a proposal to Turks..´; Gaston Olivérès (1890-1912) death at the very early age of 22. Signed postcard, Mourmelon-le-Grand, 2nd June 1912, only a month before passing away. Also including several contemporary unsigned postcard photographs related to the pioneer aviators. VG, 6 £200-300Provenance Emile Lasalle collection. Author of the work `Les 100 premiers aviateurs brevetés au monde et la naissance de l'aviation.´ ("The first 100 worldwide entitled Aviators and the birth of Aviation"). A contemporary colleague of many aviators, disabled and much appreciated, author of several aviators biographies.
ORLOV GRIGORY VLADIMIROVICH: (1777-1826) Russian Count. Man of Science, Writer and Translator of multiple Russian works into French. An interesting A.L. by Orlov, one page, 4to, Naples, 10th January 1817, to Monsieur Breguet at Quai de l´Horloge, Paris, in French. A very interesting letter related to clocks, pendulums and pending debts. Orlov explains to Breguet that he has to stay longer is in Italy and states in part `My absence over the last few weeks has not allowed me to enjoy the pleasure of writing to you earlier my dear Mr. Breguet and to talk to you about my little affairs. My wife´s health is keeping me longer than expected in this country. Unfortunately she is still weak and suffering and therefore we can´t leave Naples before spring, it will probably be towards next summer that I will have the pleasure to see you again in Paris..´ further saying in some confidential way `Therefore I write to you with the utmost confidence kindly asking you to accept the payment delay of the little amount I owe you until then. I count on your friendship..´ Orlov further refers to clocks and states `The small pendulum did not work for some time, but started working again… Mine is working properly and regularly..´ and concludes `..Please send me response to the Minister of Russia´s home here.´ A letter of unusual content. With blank address leaf, bearing few ink stamps dated in Naples, February 1817. Small overall age wear, otherwise G £600-900Abraham-Louis Breguet (1747-1823) Swiss Horologist. Widely considered the greatest horologist of all time. It is at the Quai de l´Horloge that Abraham-Louis Breguet opened his workshop in Paris and where his timepieces for Napoleon, Tsar Alexander I and many other Kings and Queens were created. The Powerful Orlov family were also good and regular clients of Breguet.
