The first model of the Classique 7800 'La Musicale' was released in 2010 and features a patented mechanism which plays a discreet and magical melody. Comparative to a music box but where the cylinder traditionally is on a music box it has been replaced by a pinned disc which acts alternately on a keyboard with fifteen mechanical blades. The sound is also amplified by an innovation made of a hand-engraved metallic glass membrane placed under the movement. The model presented here plays a melody composed by Jean-Sébastien Bach in 1739, the last movement of the orchestral suite No.2 in B minor from 'Badinerie'.This lot is subject to the following lot symbols: YY Subject to CITES regulations when exporting items outside of the EU, see clause 13.For further information on this lot please visit Bonhams.com

This example is very rare having a mechanism for repeating striking on a miniature bell, an exceptional feat of miniaturisation that would be challenging to execute even today. Truly bridging the gap between jewellery and watchmaking, a ring watch was a novel luxury for the rich who would have admired its miniature intricacies. The current lot has at some point been converted from a ring watch, as evident from the pin holes to the case back, into a pendant watch to be worn upon a chain. Typical of the best examples from the early 19th century, it has been mounted with a seed pearl set surround. For further information on this lot please visit Bonhams.com

Frères Duchène & Comp. A Genève. As the skill in creating erotic watches developed along with their popularity more complex and highly enameled scenes were created with two or more people in various location and positions; the popularity of the novelty and inventiveness of the watchmakers became their downfall as the detailed enameled figures began to represent members of the church or nobility drawing unwanted attention and leading to the destruction of numerous workshops and watches by law enforcement. Undeterred the practice emerged once again during the late 19th century. The current lot is a fine example of a semi-skeletonised quarter repeating Jacquemart pocket watch with the erotic automaton concealed beneath 6 o'clock. The aperture is opened by a button in the band at 7 which draws back two panels to reveal the lovers. Jacquemart automaton's also known as bellstrikers are mechanised figures of a person striking the hours on a bell with a hammer. They can also be known as a Jack of the Clock or Jack O'Clock. The origin of the word Jacquemart is disputed but thought likely to refer to a tool called a 'Jackie' which was used when building church towers. For further information on this lot please visit Bonhams.com

Sehr gute Erhaltung. A.R. (1331331) (1) (11)Magnificent French mantle clockHeight: 49 cm. Width: 48 cm. Depth: 16 cm.Signed “LEROY - PALAIS ROYALE NR. 114” (Paris).Paris, ca. 1815.Fire-gilt bronze. As is typical for French figurative clocks of this period, the design of this clock has a subject: a winged young genius with a palm branch, an allegory for success and progress, stands on a shell-shaped chariot steering two horses. The back of the chariot is designed in the shape of a dragon, a symbol for overcoming obstacles. The signature points to the famous Paris clockmaker surname Le Roy (also Leroy). This clockmaker dynasty was founded by Bazile le Roy in 1765, and the manufacturing operation continued through the Revolution until after 1829. Clocks were made for the most distinguished clients, such as Napoleon and his family, later with the title of court clockmaker to the House of Bourbon and the Dukes of Chartres. The signature states the location of the company headquarters, Galerie Montpensier, Palais Royal, where they were based since 1815. It was not until 1828 that his successor, Louis-Charles Le Roy, signed the clockworks “Le Roy et Fils”, which also helps in dating the clock more precisely. In very good condition.

Louis Philippe period table clock. France, ca. 1840.Gilt and patinated bronze.Honoré Pons movement. The pendulum and the bell are missing. The machinery needs restoration.Measurements: 41 x 29 x 10 cm.Table clock made in gilded and patinated bronze at the beginning of the 19th century. The piece has been conceived through a sculptural concept characteristic of this period. It consists of a base with sharp edges, reflecting the taste for clean volumes characteristic of the aesthetics of the period. On the upper part of the base, which is extensively decorated with a vegetal pattern in relief, stands a gallant man dressed in the 18th-century style. The latter rests on the clock case, which is inscribed on the base of what appears to be a cut tree. The gilt-bronze dial has Breguet-type hands and Roman numerals. Scenes of this type were very common in the decoration of table clocks, often depicting mythical or religious figures, linked to a historicist sense and aesthetic.
