He had a great love of the theatre and performed in many well-known venues. He even was the proud owner of his own 50-seat studio theatre in his home.He was one of the first DJs on Radio 2, and hosted shows such as 'Saturday Club', 'Thank Your Lucky Stars' and 'Late Night Extra', but he is probably best known for presenting the long-running 'Round Midnight' programme which won the 1987 Pulitzer Publishing Award.Brian presented 'Sounds of the Sixties' (winner of a Gold Sony Radio Award in 1996) from April 1990 through to 2017, when he stepped down from presenting the show.In 1990 he received a Broadcasting Press Guild Award for Outstanding Contribution to Radio.

THE ROLLING STONES - THE ROLLING STONES LP (FIRST UK 1A/1A '2.52 TELL ME' PRESSING - DECCA LK 4605). An essential cut for anyone serious about collecting Stone's records here with the very first UK pressing of the band's landmark April 1964 LP. This original copy contains the shorter '2.52' version of Tell Me with the matrix: XARL-6271-1A XARL-6272-1A. Deep-groove unboxed red labels are bright and legible, both sides have spindle wear around the centre holes. The record is in G+ condition displaying surface marks and scuffs, some slightly feelable. Unfortunately, the record does skip a couple of times towards the start of side 2 and the record is lightly ‘dished’. The sleeve is in VG condition with peeling to the laminate as well as creasing to the edges/ storage wear.

THE ROLLING STONES - AFTERMATH LP (ORIGINAL UK 'SHADOW' COVER COPY - LK 4786). A neat example of the always hard-to-find original UK (mono) 'shadow' cover copy of Aftermath. The sleeve is in well-presented, strong VG+ condition. Cover is bright Ex, back cover has some faint ring wear and a couple of small drink spotting stains. Spine edge is fully legible. The original LP (LK 4786, unboxed, 1B/5A matrix endings) is in glossy VG+ condition, displays a small number of hairline/ light paper marks.

The orange record is in Ex condition with a few harline marks/ scuffs - clean labels. The sleeve is in nice VG+ condition with some age-related wear/ light creasing to the corners.

The record (unboxed mono Decca LK 5025 P-2A/P-1A) is in VG condition with some surface marks though no heavier feelable scratches. The poster is in lovely clean Ex condition. Includes red mono inner. The sleeve is in nice VG+ condition with a couple of very minor cover creases.

The Rolling Stones Stones A Les Abatoirs Captain Crochet Records unofficial release 1977, Runout Side A  etched): 054-A, runout Side B etched): 054-B with a yellow C.C Records label and original paper inner sleeve. The vinyl on both sides is in superb condition with the laminated cover showing some signs of storage wear and creasing with some  slight damage to the spine and edges with the back cover showing track listings, timings and a quality guide sticker giving a rating of "8". A rare unofficial recording from the Paris concert on 6/7 1976. Provenance: from the private collection of a former senior EMI employee.

Four Rolling Stones Decca early 1970s reissued classic albums, Including Rolling Stones No.2 which is a boxed Decca label red mono pressing with matrix numbers A- XARL - 6619- 2A and XARL-6620-2A, Out of Our Heads which is a boxed Decca label blue stereo pressing with matrix numbers A- ZAL-6973-1W and B ZAL- 6974-1W, Beggars Banquet, which is a boxed Decca label blue stereo pressing with matrix numbers A- XZAL- 8476 1K and XZAL-8477-1K and Big Hits (High Tide and Green Grass) which is a boxed Decca light blue label stereo pressing with matrix numbers A-XZAL- 7503-6D and B- XZAL-7504-6D and all have the original poly lined inner sleeves, (4) The vinyl of all four records is in superb condition with little evidence of any marks or hairline scratches with all covers whilst showing slight signs of storage wear and some age related marks being very strong with good edges.  These represent four very nice copies from the early to mid 1970s reissue catalogue. Provenance: from the private collection of a senior former EMI employee.

Five classic Rolling Stones records,  including Some Girls which is a 1978 stereo first version die cut example with celebrity faces, matrix numbers A-  CUN 39108 A 3, B : CUN 39108 B 3 U, the Miss You 12in. picture cover in pink vinyl, a 1974 pressing of Its Only Rock n Roll, matrix numbers A-  COC.59103.A2, B- COC.59103.B2, (A&B-Side Runout, Hand-etched): ROLLING STONES RECORDS with original picture inner sleeve, a 1980 pressing of Emotional Rescue, matrix numbers A- CUN 3911-A, B- CUN 3911- B with its original poster and a 1984 copy of Undercover, matrix numbers A-CUN 165436 1A, B CUN 165436 1B with its original inserts, (5) The vinyl of all four records is in superb condition with little evidence of any marks or hairline scratches with all covers whilst showing slight signs of storage wear and some age related marks being very strong with good edges.  These represent four very nice copies from the early to mid 1970s reissue catalogue. Provenance: from the private collection of a senior former EMI employee.               

Lot 1638

The History of Rock complete set from number one to number 40 inclusive, accompanied by volumes 1 to 10 of the "History of Rock" books and two ring binder volumes of additional instalments.  The collection is in excellent condition. This a nice example of one of the most concise appraisals of Rock music put together and featuring legendary Bands such as the Beatles, The Rolling Stones and The Eagles.
