Fabulous poster, from a private collection- much of which was amassed in the late 1960's in San Francisco (this one is a more recent reprint but is signed by Hamersveld). Jimi Hendrix by John Van Hamersveld (contemporary reprint signed by the artist Hamersveld). John Van Hamersveld portrayed Hendrix like a classical composer in this memorable poster for a Pinnacle concert at the Shrine Auditorium. John is perhaps best known for his “Endless Summer” surfing poster. He also designed the sleeves for the Beatles “Magical Mystery Tour” and the Rolling Stones “Exile on Main Street”.
Fabulous poster, from a private collection amassed mainly in the late 1960's in San Francisco. Magical Mystery Tour by John Van Hamersveld. There are literally thousands of Beatles posters out there, but this is one of a series commissioned by the Beatles themselves, through their company Apple Corps. The film was first screened on British TV, but in the UK the music from it was originally released on two EPs, and only later as an album with added tracks which had been singles. The cover was designed by John Van Hamersveld,* who is perhaps best known for his “Endless Summer” surfing poster, and who did the gatefold sleeve for the Rolling Stones’ album “Exile on Main Street”. *Incidentally, Wikipedia states incorrectly that the sleeve design is by Peter Max
