II.143, p.93In 1964 the Rolling Stones embarked on their first tour of the United States. It was this year, at a party in New York, that Andy Warhol first met Mick Jagger. Their initial artistic collaboration was when the Stones asked Warhol to design the album cover for 1971's Sticky Fingers. It wasn't until 1975 that they began their second partnership, when Seabird Editions in London offered to publish a portfolio of ten screenprints. The Rolling Stones were touring the United States for the sixth time when Jagger, staying with his wife, Bianca in Warhol's Montauk home, sat for the Polaroids that would come to be the Mick Jagger Portfolio. From these Polaroids, Warhol made line drawings and combined them with collage-like blocks of solid colour; a technique that would be echoed in his later works. Jagger said of working with Warhol: 'Working with Andy was relatively easy. Doing the portraits that you see was so great, 'cause he just used to get his polaroid out and just do '1, 2, 3, and 4,' and then 'turn,' and then a few of that and you were basically done.'For further information on this lot please visit Bonhams.com

One of the photographs (largest of the set) shows George Harrison with pen in hand. Also with a concert programme for Exeter ABC Cinema and an official press pass for the event.Provenance from vendor:I came down to see my brother at Exeter Uni when he was studying there. We’d got tickets to see the show on October 28th and, as an aspiring photographer, I managed to blag my way into the pre-show photo opportunity and Q&A session. As you can imagine at the height of Beatlemania it was a bit of a scrum and George was forced to sign standing up and pressed against people, which explains why his signature is all over the place. Luckily I was able to photograph him signing (I can’t remember if he was signing my book at the time but it was either side of doing so) and below is the photo I took. The other three signatures are reasonably legible considering the circumstances. I also got the Rolling Stones autographs for my brother as I got backstage for their show in Feb ’64 at Guildford. Which is when I got signatures of some of the other musicians in the show’s lineup. My brother got all the other signatures in the book… he was social secretary at Exeter Uni at the time, was responsible for booking the various artists and grabbed their autographs when they appeared there.**THIS COLLECTION IS BEING SOLD AS A PACKAGE FROM THE BEATLES CONCERT IN EXETER IN 1963. THE SIGNATURES IN THE AUTOGRAPH BOOK HAVE NOT BEEN AUTHENTICATED BY ROGER EPPERSON HOWEVER OUR VENDOR WOULD PREFER THE COLLECTION TO BE SOLD TOGETHER AND NOT TO BE SPLIT HENCE US LEAVING THE AUTOGRAPH BOOK WITH THE OTHER ITEMS FROM THE CONCERT**
