The Complete English Traveller, or a New Survey & Description of England and Wales. 1st Edn, 1772. Folio. Lacks title, two of the maps, most of the plates & final leaf of the index. Later full calf, gilt; CAMDEN (W) Britannia:or A Chorographical Description of Great Britain & Ireland, together with the Adjacent Islands. Revised by Edmund Gibson. 3rd Edn, 1753. Folio. Vol 1 only, with the engraved portrait frontispiece and the plates of coins, but lacking all the maps; together with a collection of approx 100 topographical engravings c 1750 -1800 (4).
A RUSSIAN SILVER PHOTOGRAPH FRAME, having double eagle motif to each corner set to the centre with an oval portrait miniature within swagged and crown border inset with cabochon gems, engraved around edge and dated 1906. Russian marks for 1896-1908, Assayers initials A.P maker M.N. 3.75” Square.
A Sunderland lustre circular Bowl, the centre decorated with an armorial inscribed “The Arms of the Ancient Honourable Fraternity of Free Accepted Masons”, and also with further panel of the Manchester Unity Independent Order of Odd Fellows, scene of bridge over the River Wear, Masonic motif of the Ancient Order of Foresters, the Gauntlet Clipper Ship, and a half-length portrait of Garibaldi (extensive hairline cracks), 9 ¾” diameter
AUTOGRAPHS. – Sybil THORNDIKE. A signed black and white photograph inscribed ‘To Jimmy, Good Luck! Sybil Thorndike’. [?New York:] Vandamm, [n.d.] (137 x 85mm.) The photograph a head and shoulders portrait of Thorndike in profile. (Slightly browned.) – And a collection of other autographs, 20th Century, including Ernie Wise, Charlton Heston, Mickey Rooney and another signed by Thorndike (a lot).
WHISTLER, Rex. An autographed letter signed by Whistler, addressed to his friend Siegfried Sassoon, dated in pencil by the recipient ’21-1-[19]30’. 2pp., oblong 8vo (133 x 178mm.) The letter thanks Sassoon for a ‘lovely poem’ and mentions various literary projects, it also incorporated two original pen and ink drawings, one an informal portrait of Edith Sitwell, the other a small cartoon of Sassoon with a medal. Window mounted with original envelope. – And a first edition of Sitwell’s ‘Alexander Pope’, all contained within a single cloth covered box. Note: a formal version of the drawing of Edith Sitwell was reproduced on the dust-jacket of her book ‘Alexander Pope’, published in 1930. Whistler comments in the letter that he is doing it for ‘Dick’ [Richard de la Mare of Faber and Faber], ‘It is going to be an elegant (I hope) representation of Edith gazing upon a bust of Pope, like this:’ with an arrow pointing to the drawing.
BINDINGS. – Thomas Babington MACAULAY. The Works. London: 1871. 8 vols., 8vo (215 x 131mm.) Engraved portrait frontispiece. (Spotted to first and last few leaves.) Contemporary red straight-grain morocco gilt by Bickers & Son, London, the covers with a centrally placed emblem for Victoria College, Jersey, within triple and double fillet borders, the spines in six compartments with raised bands, lettered in the second and third, the others with repeat decoration in gilt, gilt turn-ins, g.e. (spines slightly faded to brown).

Engraved portrait frontispiece with later hand-colouring, engraved additional title, engraved title vignette with later hand-colouring, 36 double-page plans or plates only, approx 109 engraved illustrations. (Some light spotting or browning.) Contemporary speckled calf (rebacked and cornered with old spine laid down, extremities scuffed, endpapers replaced).

(Edges of first few and some other leaves slightly tattered, occasional marginal tears, some browning, folding plate with repaired tear). Old speckled calf (rebacked with old spine laid down, rubbed and scuffed). Wing D-2482.
